The Sunotel Junior was centrally located for what we needed. Near a metro line and close walking distance to many areas that we needed to access it was the ideal location. The only criticism is that there is nothing on the booking site or hotel site letting you know you have to check in at the Sunotel Aston - a half block walk away but a bit disconcerting when you first arrive (especially from overseas). Otherwise once we figured that out it was fine.

We booked this hotel because we wanted to travel budget friendly, but with a pool. So we choose this.
To be honest we were a little scared because of the bad reviews. But we didn’t experience anything bad at all.
Yes they moved the check in to the other hotel, and you have to walk a little to get to to your room. But I don’t see that as a big issue.
Our check in went smoothly and the person who helped us was extremely nice and helpful.
The room was perfect for what we needed, yes a little outdated, but we are only there to sleep and freshen up. The airco was working as promised. Most important, it was clean.
The pool is a big +++.
After our check out we could leave out bags because our flight wasn’t until late in the evening, which is a nice gesture.
Overal, we really fell in love with Barcelona and we will definitely come back.

I was on a business trip, so it wasn’t my choice to stay in this hotel. If you need just a room to sleep in, it will probably do the job.
Check-in time is not respected. I had to wait 1 hour 15 minutes after the official check in time to get my room. Instead of 3pm, I got the keys only around 4:15pm. So if you are tired after a long trip, not even a simple “sorry” will be said to you at the reception. I didn’t find people at the reception friendly. The cleaners are very good and the only people who smile there.
The rooms indeed are old and falling apart. Every time I took a shower, I had to screw the hose in, otherwise the water would splash in all directions. After a shower, even if you are super careful, there will be water everywhere, which made me not notice the forming puddles from a leaking air conditioner (which I did not use even for a second, it’s a mystery why it was leaking). The room was for one person with one twin bed, so i had to put my luggage right beneath the air conditioner, next to the wall. So once I noticed the leak, I realized that some of this disgusting water dripped right onto my clothes.
If you do stay there, don’t take the overpriced breakfast there, go around the corner to the cafe My Friend, a wonderful family owned place that will welcome you with love!

This was one of the worst rooms I have ever stayed in. It had no window to the outside (only to a stairwell), the door was 1 metre away from the lift (so I heard noise all night), there was something wrong with the pipework (I just heard water flowing all night), there was no working fan extractor in the bathroom, the air con didn't work properly, the TV was stuck on a loading screen, and the entrance to the hotel was closed so I had to walk a long distance from the neighbouring hotel. This was honestly terrible.

I really wanted to like this hotel. The price was great and we did save money for other things in Barcelona. Plus it had a good location , so it seemed ideal. This was on the logic that we only needed to sleep and shower there. I should have known better.
Unfortunately the space was so poorly maintained and the room so unreasonably small that even this low bar was a challenge. The air conditioning wasn't working with the night time temps in our room at 25 to 27 Celsius with very high humidity. Way too hot to sleep comfortably, we sweat all through the night.
When I called the front desk with the issue they said they'd reach out to maintenance and get it fixed ASAP, which turned out to be sometime after we left, possibly never. You see, they made this sound strange and unexpected, but I overheard other guests complaining about the same issue to the front desk.
The repair and quality of the room was otherwise tolerable enough that I wouldn't have complained, but it's extremely bare bones with everything incurring extra fees.
I can't recommend them unless you absolutely need the price point.

Good value for money. Clean room, decent size. 5-10 mins walk from the metro station with good connectivity to the tourist sites. Decent and varied selection of food at breakfast; they also have a 'diet menu' at the buffet counter. There are many shops, bakeries, cafes and fast food joints around the hotel. Would recommend.
