Marvell Club Hotel & Apartments

We’re currently several days in to our stay here at the Marvell. Upon arrival to the area, the first impression is pretty negative. There are a lot of abandoned shops, bars and restaurants. It’s as if many locked up during Covid and never reopened sadly. Entering the hotel you’re greeted with a pleasant smell and icy cold air con. The reception area is large and relaxing. The hotel itself feels a bit tired, scuffs, marks and dents on the paintwork. The same goes for the rooms. We are in a 1 bed apartment, sadly with the worst view you could imagine. If you value your evenings on the balcony with a drink, admiring the view then you will definitely need to consider an upgrade. The 1 bed apartment is very small. I fell in to the trap of assuming it would be spacious given it’s an apartment, but the living area is tiny, and is completely consumed once the sofa bed is pulled out. I know many reviews remark on the cleanliness of the hotel, whilst it’s far from the worst I’ve ever stayed in, it isn’t exactly immaculate. The shelves in the room are covered in dust, there is red splatter over the electricity circuit box and bathroom wall, there is loose trim around the shower the the drain cover in the shower is completely broken and free to float about when you’re having a shower. That said, the shower is pleasant and powerful. The carpets in the hallway and stairs are constantly covered in crumbs and other debris, so I definitely would agree with the other reviewers remarking on the cleanliness. The beds in the bedroom are at best, atrocious. So bad that I’ve had to swap with my 4 year old and sleep on the sofa bed. The air con in the rooms is next to non-existent, and ours resets itself to 26 degrees every few hours. The restaurant is pleasant, we get there as it’s opening (quite late considering it’s a family hotel - 7:30pm). The food is of decent quality but choice is very much limited, and there are only 3 options for kids each night, one of which is always chips. The pool areas are good and the kids love the splash pool. As is customary for brits abroad, the towels go down first thing so it can be a struggle to get a couple of sun-beds later in the day. In summary, this is a decent hotel, not a spectacular one. The surrounding area is pretty lifeless. If you require space, then do not book a standard 1 bed apartment, and if you value a view, pay the extra for a sea view balcony. A solid 3 star hotel in my opinion, definitely not a 4 star.
