Reviews
However, for the price we paid there were a few hidden cracks which such as the toilets kept flooding and the day bed wasn't in use!
Overall, really enjoyed our stay here.
Things to note:
1) There doesn't seem to be a quiet time curfew at night and if there is a large group staying at one of the bigger villas with a private pool, it can get very noisy. It was very very loud with yelling, laughing and partying until even 3am for 2 out of the 7 nights we stayed there. Other nights were soooo quiet and peaceful.
2) The interior of the accomodation could be a little cleaner
3) the bathroom door doesn't fully close and the shower drain gets backed up
4) if you have trouble locking your door from the outside, ask the staff to explain it one more time
5) the wifi doesn't work well
6) I recommend bringing hangers from home to hang your bathing suits and towels to dry. We tried hanging them around the balcony and the dye especially from the wicker chairs totally stained my clothes orange. Be careful!
ROOMS
We have booked the hotel considering that these are interconnected room as mentioned in room specifications. However, they have only Villas having two bed room with SEPERATE ENTRENCE. So, to get from one bedroom to another, we have to step into the open porch.
With children, as young as nine and six years old, this is neither a comfortable nor a feasible arrangement. They are scared to sit in their room alone as coming into the main bedroom means they should step outside. The ‘Villas’ are surrounded by thick foliage, sounds of insects and many cats who are freely roaming around the property (though the hotel has a strict no-pet policy). This is not very inviting environment for children, once it is dark. In another situation, we may have been able to appreciate the setting, but not when we have two small children.
Now rather than enjoying the vacation as a family with children having the space to run around without fear and we too enjoying our space, we have to remain cooped in one room.
We have been woken up early by the rays of morning sun as the curtains are without Blackout (though it’s mentioned in the website) and stopped us from sleeping in the afternoon after our Phi Phi Island Tour.
Rooms are stuffy when you check in in the afternoon and hotel have strict policy against keeping the air-conditioners switched on when guests are away. The hotel also has an exhaustive list of ‘Don’s’ starting with “Please do not move any furniture in the room” along with the price of each article.
Housekeeping is available during the day-time. Once we requested for cleaning at 4:30 PM and they had “accommodated our request”.
There is hardly any channels available in Television except one /two channels in native language.
SECURITY
Mr. Lee is the one-man army of Viangviman. He is the only guard securing the property from 8:00 PM to 8:00 AM. Interestingly Reception is operational from 8:00 PM to 8:00 AM. Lee is the only personal available at night. On the second night to our stay some strange noise like something getting nailed on to our wall woke me up at 1:00 AM. I tried to contact the reception but house phone didn’t have any mention of the number at reception. I banged my hand on the window pane to grab the attention only to stop the sound for a while and restarted again. Now I am panicked; the review of Song from Malaysia on 15th of May about Supernatural moment came to my mind. I opened the window and shouted for help. Fortunately, Mr. Lee came and uttered something in broken English and sound stopped.
LOCATION
Tucked quite far off from the main tourist attractions like Ao Nang & Nopparat Thara beach and main road, reaching the hotel is difficult, without a private transport. Considering the hotel doesn’t serve food except exorbitantly priced American Breakfast (฿350), finding food can be a challenge. There are few local restaurants near the mosque, which is about 750 meter away and most of them can’t speak English.
Check IN- Check OUT
Pay at Hotel option doesn’t work here like other hotels where we have an option to settle the bill in cash. They block the credit card in advance and refuse to change mode of the payment to cash. In effect we have to bear additional credit card charges, high forex conversion rate used by credit card company, loss for converting home currency to Thai Baht which we carried for payment at the hotel and loss for converting Thai Baht to Home currency.
Further hotel takes security deposit of ฿3000 while check-in. Since we were at the end of our trip with no further usage Thai Baht and hotel has already charged everything to credit card, we ended having ฿3000 which we have to convert to home currency at loss!
To sum up, Viangviman is an experience we could have avoided by using the time and money we have spent on a scooter (motor bike). Not recommended at all.
No staff no bell boys only cats all around...
I should not suggest it for indians...
