D Maris Bay

They charged me $1000 for cancelling in August of 2020 when all the borders were closed!!! I had to cancel several hotels and none did that. They also told me there is no non-smoking section on the beach. I am heading to Bodrum now but certainly not to D-Maris.

I’ll get the good aspects out of the way, as we did love the beaches and the service there, and the location is one of the best in the world. The restaurants are also good, but they are individually run, not much to do with the hotel (except D Maris kitchen, which we did actually also love as it was by the beach). The good part stops here though, because ultimately this isn’t a hotel we would ever be returning to. After a long day traveling from Rhodes (and two weeks on a road trip), we were ready to relax a little and looked forward to our stay at DMaris. Upon arrival we were shoved through the side security room just as a big tour group walked in through the main door and were awaited with plates of welcoming drinks. We were told 5 months in advance at booking that there were no connecting rooms at the hotel, but alas upon arriving to our rooms, our sons’ room is connecting to somebody else while we are down a flight of stairs from them. (Their excuse was at first that they were a different room category which I would’ve gladly booked had anybody informed me about it instead of just being told they have no connecting rooms, but then the manager also admitted our request for connecting rooms wasn’t considered because we booked through booking.com-a rate we paid equal to their site’s rate). Not a word of apology just for customer service’s sake. The staff is pushy and overbearing at the hotel, as opposed to the well trained staff at the beaches. We only had breakfast one out of the four mornings, but 3 different people checked to make sure we were on the list and allowed to have breakfast. I don’t know if people can just walk into this resort off the street, otherwise I can’t figure out who can have breakfast if they are not staying here. It’s of course customary to ask for the room number before you are seated, but this hotel’s procedure went way above that. A wedding kept us from sleeping all four nights (setup, wedding, takedown). The incidentals charge at check in is $500 a night per room which we didn’t mind as we usually use up the incidentals charge, but just fyi since it’s double what other in-class resorts hold. All around an unpleasant stay and you couldn’t pay me to return. So many resorts around the world in some of the best locations treated us infinitely better for the same price. If you’re a Turkish citizen and your passport has been revoked you can stay at D Maris and enjoy the beaches, otherwise if you want to stay on the Mediterranean, hop on over to Du Cap Ferrat or Eden ROC and you’ll enjoy a true 5 star in a high trust society.
