Came for a work conference. Late check in. They lost my reservation. Maya at the front desk was amazing and upgraded my room at no additional cost. The restaurant mixed up my order and to remake. Jane (?), the night manager, comp'd my meal. Fantastic stay. Big clean room. Amazing views. And big stars to Maya and Jane (?)! They really saved my evening and stay.
Wow, we stayed the night on our way to a vacation in Campbell River. This is where we had one of the best rooms EVER!! Corner room on the 11th floor looking out at the beautiful Salish Sea, sea planes and ferries constantly on the move. With windows and balcony on two sides, incredible views. Will definitely stay here again. Walkable to many restaurants. Did not partake in Happy Hour as time...
We were so impressed with this hotel and the view from our room. It was incredibly clean, the room was spacious with comfortable beds, and staff were amazing. For the price, we were beyond happy. Parking is a bit tricky when the lot is full, but we could always find a spot. While there is no pool, the front desk agent let us know about the Nanaimo Aquatic Centre. There is a pool, sauna, steam...
Lovely spot to visit the small shops downtown and the beautiful marina. We were directed to wonderful places to eat nearby. The king room with view and tub was extraordinary. The sunrise and sunset views were amazing - would 100 percent recommend this.
Highly recommend! Location is very central to downtown. Staff is friendly & helpful, especially Erica, Derek, & Danielle. Pet-friendly: my dog had a pleasant stay! The rooms have been wonderfully renovated. I love the plank flooring & blue decor. The pull-out couch bed was also quite comfortable. Bathroom had nice lighting. Wonderful view of the water. A/C temp was perfect. Heads up that the parking...
Had great stay. Every employee had been very was helpful, friendly, and showed genuine care and concern for the guest experience. I've been in hospitality industry for several years and definitely felt genuine care and welcoming by the staffs. Food was great at the restaurant. Enjoyed my walk by the water. Definitely coming back.

The Grand Hotel Nanaimo, Nanaimo1 / 50
Nanaimo, 4898 Rutherford Road 🧭 Map
No pool, vending machines inoperative jacuzzis in the room don't work. Restaurant closed on good Friday. Room was nice, TV in a weird spot. Quiet and friendly front desk. Their advertisement needs serious update.
This is a beautiful historic hotel with fine dining and an incredible atmosphere. The staff is excellent and friendly. I will be back as often as I can. I will recommend this hotel to everyone in the US looking for a great Vacation experience.
Beware: this place is totally HAUNTED but an incredible place to stay. The whiskey bar is super chill and the leather coach in there is sooo comfortable. I felt really connected to spirits here especially my Dad Warren Bradbury and ex who committed suicide. Great place to stay and I look forward to coming back for the scotch festival 😀
We switched from downtown hotels to The Grand recently, and wonder why we didn't do it sooner! Wonderful staff, awesome dog-friendly atmosphere, and great location with tons of parking. Also, I left my cosmetics bag behind on our most recent trip and when I called in a panic, they had retrieved it and packaged it for me to pick up. If you've forgotten something in a hotel before, you know chances are...
The reviews about the Grand are true; this is a hidden gem that you never considered or forget to consider. I cannot comment on the food since we only visited the lounge but the lounge and dinning area have character. The lounge is very comfortable and has an excellent selection of beverages. It is now at the top of my list of must try dining. I hope my future dining experience will be equally rewarding...
the lobby is absolutely beautiful ..spotlessly clean and everything was shiny and dust free. I would of liked to have been able to spend more time there

We stayed here for 2 nights and it was amazing. The staff were friendly and polite. We requested for and had a crib waiting in our room before we arrived. You can’t beat the location! It’s close to everything! The breakfast could be better, but it was okay. I will definitely stay here again if I am in the area.
I tend to stick to Best Westerns when traveling because you tend to get a consistent experience. While I have no complents here as the staff was great and room as expected, I did have a crazy allergic reaction to what I believe was either a muffin, or something in the muffin enclosure. I have no known allergies so this was unexpected. My face was swollen, my eyes almost shut, mucus, itchy feet bottoms...
This is normally the hotel I stay at while in Nanaimo. It’s convenient, simple, clean, casual and offers good value. But the real reason I’m leaving this review is because the gal at the front desk wearing glasses (I don’t remember her name) was absolutely lovely. These are the people you want representing your business and taking care of your customers. Give her a raise and retain her forever - for...
Hotel doesn’t look like much from the outside, but was very clean and updated on the inside. The location was in a nice area and close to stores and restaurants. The staff was very nice and helpful. We would highly recommend.
Fantastic place! Room was spotless. Staff were courteous and professional. We enjoyed our stay very much. We highly recommend this wonderful hotel with fantastic staff! Every single staff member was so accommodating and kind! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Breakfast was wonderful. The staff even made me fresh gluten free waffles! The bed was very comfortable and the pillows were wonderful. The bathroom was meticulously clean

Front desk staff was efficient and welcoming. Room was clean. Breakfast was a let down, no breakfast attendant seemed unhappy to be at work. Very outdated hotel but clean.
July 5 2023 - Clean and spacious room, bit loud but cold AC, breakfast was good in my opinion, parking lot does have security checking in. Vicki, Kyla and the afternoon gentleman are outstanding, great customer service, patient and understanding. Afternoon gentleman is welcoming, greets you every time. Vicki is a sweet heart, she would be the grandmother that everyone wishes for. Kyla gives good honest...
Great room! Dealing with Scott was amazing. He made my family's welcome stand out from all the hotels we've stayed in the past. Room was very clean and everything worked as it should. Would recommend to friends and family. Unfortunately we came too late to try out the pool 😔
Comfy and clean. Very thin walls as I could hear the person's in the adjoining room cough but fortunately they were quiet at night so I slept well. Lots of signs outside on the building stating do not leave valuables in vehicle plus a sketchy part of town so beware. I brought in everything from my vehicle and then parked it in front of my window without issues. I chose this place because of the pool...
Checking in was a long wait Rooms overall good but beds were awful. Uncomfortable and squeaky. Breakfast offered was not appealing. Not much for selection. Frozen waffles, soggy bagels, muffins gross. Pet friendly as we brought our cat, but our neighbor had 2 dogs and a cat. When checking in the pet agreement stated no pets over 40 lbs which both dogs were, and only 2 pets..she had 3. Close to what...
Not bad for a low budget hotel. Breakfast is very limited. Staff friendly. Don't go for a walk at night because you may encounter shady characters. Not a vacation resort that's for sure.

This is my fourth visit to this hotel. Front desk staff are very friendly and welcoming. The rooms are exceptionally clean and well maintained. It’s great spot to walk down to the marina area. Lots of nice little independent shops and places to eat.
We had a great time. The location is great, the harbour view was lovely. We’d have loved to have a magnifying mirror in the room as us over 40s can’t put on makeup once we take our readers off. Smart TVs would be awesome. The smell in the hallways was off putting.
We loved our stay the staff were wonderful. They upgraded our room for our anniversary to water view room without no extra charge. The guy Hayden at the reception was super helpful and friendly, he even helped us to book a good restaurant for our anniversary. Overall it was an excellent experience. Special thanks to Hayden.
Enjoyed my stay. Room was clean, and quiet. Restaurants attached to hotel were excellent. Front desk staff were nice and helpful. 2/3 of them were very bubbly and friendly, and one was a little quiet or disinterested. No real complaints regarding the hotel. Not super fancy, but it had everything you need for a quick and comfortable stay. Price was comparable to other hotels in the area.
Great location! Our rooms had a harbour view from where you can watch pretty sunrise! Rooms were neat and tidy! The location of hotel is perfect, you pretty much don’t need a car if you are staying here. Parking is included but they have limited space. You can park anywhere on the road and they will reimburse the pay parking charges.
I love the historic buildings on the waterfront and the quaintness of the older hotel having been updated. However, the door to the room didn't close properly, and my personal effects, which thankfully were left alone, were unprotected when I left for dinner. I'd also heard staff in one of the restaurants comment on the growing crime rate in the area. Lovely to visit, though it makes you cautious due...

My husband, daughter and grandson spent the night July14/18. Because of the less-than-stellar reviews, we had no great expectations. Great location. Just a few minutes from the wharf. Rooms are small & the bathroom could use some updating however for a short stay it suits the purpose. Outdoor pool is nice for the kids. The staff are friendly & extremely helpful. I would stay again.
pros: staff was very nice very efficient cheap to stay... only 50 bucks a night theres a fitness room, pool and a church room was very clean they had a mini fridge and microwave cons: wifi singal is very weak in certian rooms tv is very old... looks like it was from the 90s the A/C is not at all efficient...doesnt really alter the room temperature so its very hot during the summer the water temperature...
Rooms were clean, lots of hot water, service was great! Had the hot tub and pool to ourselves throughly enjoyed the "volleyball". Very vintage. Loved it!
Nice and clean very friendly staff decently priced. I Love that they are pet friendly If they updated the TVs and cable id give 5 stars
Front desk arranged for last minute early check-in when we ambled in with all our camping gear and two small kids, thank goodness. Took a quick dip in their outdoor pool and had a short walk to the waterfront for dinner and ice cream. Hung out at the big playground in the park right across from the hotel. The host was super friendly, the room was a little dated, but so clean! It was a great location and quiet in the evening. Hands-down worth the money paid. Would definitely recommend and stay again.
This motel is a bit outdated, but clean. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Our room is at the back, wich is more quit than the front. The ferry to Departure Bay is a few minutes away, wich is very nice. You can park your car in front of your room. I would stay here again next time!
Considering it’s a small motel, the rooms are clean and great for a temporary stay, at least from my one week experience. The owners were very kind and accommodating. The place is old but at least it’s clean. I would go back there again for sure if I needed a place to stay in the area.
For a motel in Nanaimo bc, I'll giver 5 star, it's a motel what u expect, it's clean, owner is friendly, we checked in at 2.30 am due to late ferry and he welcomed us, definitely one of the cleaner motels on the island.....no complaints
I stayed here for a week while waiting for my rental suite to become available. It's older but suited me perfectly. The staff were super friendly too. It's hard to find anything negative to say when you pay $85 for a room with a kitchenette and included breakfast. Would highly recommend!
Rooms are very clean and spacious! The motel is only 5min to the ferry which was great for our 6am start! Staff were very friendly.. can recommend this place!

It was a great stay.Shirley at the front desk was amazing. Quiet rooms, great shower and the breakfast was fantastic. Make your own Waffles!! A convince store located next door and a Whitespot familt restaurant across the street where you get a 10% discount when you stay.
Went looking for a room for the night for my 10 year anniversary and got upgraded to a suite! Very clean overall and the room was perfect temperature The front desk staff were very pleasant. The bed and the pillows were so comfortable we slept through breakfast!

The family visit to Nanaimo was worthwhile considering that we were lodged at Ramada. The rooms were neat. The hotel was chic and modern. The facilities and members of staff were friendly and courteous. There was good and free breakfast for all and perhaps by way of suggestion, the menu should change after a few days so that one doesn't tired of a particular food after a few days. I will recommend...
The nice lady at the front was exceptional, after our disgusting experience at the dorchester. She was so polite I could never imagine someone to be so pleasant to my son and I. We stayed in February for provincials in lacrosse and I must say the rooms were much bigger, cleaner and well kept. Breakfast was a delight and came with our rooms. I would suggest this place to any of my friends and family
The breakfast included was perfect. Fresh coffee, eggs and waffles. A big plus! The room was very comfortable, very well provided: reading chair and light, desk for laptop, small kitchen center and comfortable bed. Really could not ask for more in a room.
Good hotel. Specious and clean rooms, having coffee maker, fridge, microwave. Gym area is there, coin laundry is available. For housekeeping, even if you forget to ask, don’t need to worry..nicely they will change the bedsheets, refill coffee or toiletries. About food: Chef is preparing and serving breakfast ( complimentary) nicely cooked and neatly managed the entire breakfast area. Location wise...

Definitely not a hotel or resort. Kind of pricey for what you get. Rooms are nice enough and are clean but it feels like a so-so time share rather than a "resort". Example: bedroom door hinges has 3 out of 9 screws installed and door was pulling out of the frame. A/C is cheap and noisy Home Depot style that sit on the floor in the room. Front desk is closed after 10pm and before 10am. Kind of a weird...
Was a pretty good visit. They actually updated the entertainment system the same day we checked in. Huge 65” TV, played our favourite music stations the whole stay. Air conditioners were okay, incredibly noisy and almost unusable at night. The toiletries were kept up but the white tiles always appeared to be dirty with dark spots. They are selling the waterfront view, which is fine from the balcony...
This was the highlight of our visit to Vancouver Island. We had planned on doing more sightseeing the day we stayed here. The most beautiful Hotel Suite I have ever stayed in. Luxury throughout and the balcony is fabulous ! Who knew luxury like this could be so reasonable too...if you need 2 rooms these suites are a great deal compared to 2 standard rooms at other hotels ! I don't want to leave :)
Nice place, clean. Could have had more dishes in the kitchen. Unfortunately the pier bar was closed. And the internet completely sucked. But the staff was really nice. It had a nice walk along the ocean into down town and it's close to the ferry.

Dock set up was very nice, nice atmosphere and lights around the property. Use of hot tub and watercrafts was excellent. Very quiet and relaxing.
Beautiful place to get away for the weekend! Complimentary breakfast and coffee served every morning, gorgeous lakeside views. Owners are very sweet, they live upstairs in the property but it's a rarity you run into them so the suites seem very private! Paddle board, canoes and life jackets! Hot tub was beautiful at night Would definitely stay again!!
Every moment of our stay was fabulous. We loved our view, breakfast was wonderful and we loved our suite. This is not a 5 star hotel, it’s an B&B on a lake. Exceptional value for your money. Wonder hosts. We will be back.
Lovely location and very nice proprietors but breakfast was poor, there were very few tv channels and our room wasn't cleaned each day. A disappointing stay considering the price for a b&b.
Great place to stay. Very friendly hosts and the beaskfast was wonderful. You definately need time to enjoy the water activities.
We stayed here for 5 nights. It is beautiful and relaxing! Richard and Helen and very kind, helpful and professional! We not only loved their place but them also. We highly recommend this B&B!
