Reviews
We were off to a great start, but as our 4-night stay went on it only got worse.
We were told we would need to change rooms after two nights, we would be upgraded (and had to pay for the executive room) due to unavailability, fair enough, we were just glad they had space for us.
They informed us that we would just need to pack our bags and the hotel staff would move all our luggage for us. Sounded good to us. Unfortunately, that was not the case, we were told to bring our bags down that the morning and that they would take them to our new rooms at 4pm. That didn’t happen, we would need to take them ourselves. We had a similar experience when asking for a fan as the air conditioning was broken, they were going to take it to our new room (they are large and difficult to carry).
This did not happen and we were eventually given a different fan that evening to carry ourselves to the room which was half-broken and completely covered in thick dust.
When I expressed my disappointment to the reception that I was unhappy that they had told us on 4 occasions that things would be done for us and hadn’t been, I was met by the staff member saying “oh this is the Princess” to my father. I am 26 years old and I didn’t appreciate the comment. I am paying for my own room and deserve to be listened to the same as anyone else.
The normal room we started off in was much better than the executive room, even though it was much cheaper. Our air-conditioning was broken but we were pleased to have a fan.
After moving to the executive room, we were very disappointed, air-conditioning remained broken throughout our stay, our toilet flush was broken, our double bed was two single beds pushed together with a big lump in the middle, and the pillows were lumpy and uncomfortable. (They were much better in the previous room)
The telephones were not connected to reception in either room and you could not ask for room service or use them as is advertised.
I loved that there was a pool area but there was no shade available. No opportunity to have drinks by the pool either.
I think that if the price was cheaper and the rating was lower these things would be expected, but for a 4-star hotel it was very disappointing. Even more so that my concerns were met with sarcasm by the staff.
The restaurant has a straightforward regional menu. I had a well executed salmon tartare which came with dressed rocket salad. Fresh and delicious, I just wished for more dressing. The regional lamb dish came in a white wine sauce accompanied by divine creamy mash. Well, it is a religious building! On a Sunday night, it was busy. A challenge for only two staff, but they were elegant and smiled. The French just do service well. The main courses were between 20 and 30 💶 firsts, about 9. Good value. At the time of writing, our mid range room in the old part of the hotel was €150.
I highly recommend this place and would definitely come again.
The service from staff on the desk vary, one lady and man in particular were lovely and very helpful but the majority ignored us and acted as though they did not speak English when later on we saw they could.
The rooms are also incredible musty and everything seemed to break. The aircon was not working and the toilet didn’t flush, shower head did not stay attached so had to hold it in place to have a shower, the plug in the bath was also broken and had to be held down manually to fill up the bath. The fan we asked reception for was also terrible and upon turning it on blew dust balls out of it and around the room. The beds are also so uncomfortable - pillows hard and lumpy. The ‘executive’ room we were moved to was worse than the basic room we had originally. The phones in the rooms also do not work to call down to reception or other rooms. Reception was able to call us but whenever we had issues and tried to call reception from the room it wouldn’t go through so had to go downstairs.
Breakfast was nice, a large variety of different foods and even had gluten free options. There was hot and cold foods and lots of different breads and dips to choose from.
Rooftop pool was also lovely, with a shower to use before and after using the pool with a large amount of chairs and sun beds however there wasn’t a lot shade.
For a 4 star hotel I am disappointed, especially with what we had paid for the rooms and having to pay extra for the executive room. If it was a lower rating it would be expected but sadly I am not happy with my stay. Especially with sarcasm and unhelpful ness given by some of the reception staff.
Service varies, some people at the front desk are uneducated about their jobs, others are ok. The design is terrible, all the furniture feels and is old, both in the common area and in the rooms (at least the modern side, but pictures on the website show the same in the old part), this includes old leather chairs that might have been modern 20y ago, or a piece of carpet on the wall, with some hairs on it... The layout of the room is very strange, feels like a bunker with no real window but a kind of claustra.
Overall super disappointed because it could really be an amazing hotel if they hired an interior architect. And finally, definitely not worth the price per night !
