Podere La Vecchia Fornace Apart-hotel

We stayed in this property for two nights, booking directly five days in advance at a cost of €75 per night.

Upon arrival we found the property already dismantled: the swimming pool covered by a tarpaulin and no table or chairs outside to enjoy the open air. The apartment, located on the ground floor on the west side, was very dark and unfortunately also dirty. There was a lot of dust under both beds (see photo), and the bathroom had not been cleaned properly. The bathroom door didn't close properly because it was swollen, and the hot water only worked if the tap was left on full, otherwise the shower got cold. Also, the shower curtain was too short, causing the bathroom to flood every time.

The quality of the lighting was very poor (cold and cheap lights) and the furniture was improvised and disorganised. Even essential things for cooking, such as oil or salt, were missing. Due to the lack of adequate double sockets, it is impossible to charge phones without having to disconnect the lamps.

In summary, we had booked at the last moment as there was nothing left available in Cortona. It could have been a pleasant stay, but unfortunately it turned out to be disappointing and sad.

Stayed here on July with my family of two adults and three teenagers. Just to clear this place is not horrible but it was a horrible disappointment.

This place looks like nobody hasn’t been taking care of it for a year. It looks like the owners have changed that time and current owners are not meeting expectations based on pictures and old reviews.

It is a pity to see it as it is. It’s filthy, flowers are dead, spider webs everywhere, a nail sticking out by the window, pool water disgusting, old equipment lying around the yard, washing machine is broken as well as dishwasher too. Dario reminded that it was not listed in the items so it should not even work :-) That was a smart reply and tells a lot about his attitude. Dishwasher is still in the pictures and physically there. Nowhere was mentioned that it is not working. There is no dish brush either. So read the description and don’t expect anything else to be there or at least working.

The housekeepers are still doing something since I woke up twice to the loud sound of water running as Dario was watering flowers at 3:00 AM.

I read afterwards many reviews and I would not be surprised if he had written the reviews himself. At least one he wrote. Based on the reviews there were a lot of weddings in spring time and the guest list was really international. Yellow room must be enormous.

Dario was really eager to get our money. That was his only concern.

Don’t expect a breakfast basket nor a bottle of wine to welcome you!
