I couldn't in good faith leave a positive review for this hotel. The room was nice, breakfast was nice and the beach is nice.
However, they charge foreigners entering the beach via public property an entry fee, and there is no law to say they can do this as beaches in Thailand are public domain.
The staff were vicious about this and seeing this made me never want to stay here again. To create a positive and welcoming experience, foreigners should not be treated like this.
Otherwise, this hotel was nice. But was truly disappointed by this inequality.

The Bad (Unfortunately, there was a lot)
- Major construction and renovations were happening throughout the resort, which wasn’t properly disclosed prior to booking, aside from some fine print on Booking.com. This construction is scheduled to last until December 20th, running daily from 8 am to 6 pm and often continuing until 9 pm.
- The noise—from heavy machinery, circular saws, drilling, and constant banging—was unavoidable. We could hear it from our room, the main restaurant (where breakfast is served), the main pool, and along most of the beachfront. We booked this resort for a peaceful, relaxing holiday.
-When we asked for a refund upon arrival due to the construction, the staff told me a refund wasn’t an option. In reality, the hotel could have approved a refund through Booking.com but seemed unwilling to risk losing business. The only upgrade they offered us was to a beachfront villa, which would cost an extra $10,000 TBH ($450AUD) a night, on top of what we already paid. Or a tiny mosquito filled villa 800m from the restaurant for an extra $1000 TBH ($44AUD) per night.
- The two pools looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in ages. There were noticeable amounts of dead skin and long hairs floating around.
- On the third day, our door key stopped working, and we found ourselves locked out. This happened around 1 pm, and it took staff two hours to troubleshoot the issue before they ultimately had to replace the entire lock with power drills. Even then, the new lock was faulty, and we had to spend up to 5 minutes trying to get the door open throughout the night. Adding to this, the construction work caused a power outage, leaving us and other guests without electricity in our rooms for over five hours, with no communication from the staff about the situation.
Our room was old and dated, with multiple maintenance issues:
- The bathroom had a constant unpleasant odor.
- Light fixtures were loose, and water dripped from them onto the floor.
-Animal droppings were all over the balcony and outdoor couch, as if they hadn’t been cleaned at all.
-The air conditioning unit was positioned directly over the bed, making the room either too cold at night or too hot if turned off. It was also very loud, and had a mould smell coming from it.
- The TV only had one English-speaking channel (the news) and no movie channels or streaming options.
- The bathroom didn’t even have a hand towel. For a 4-star resort where we paid AUD 750 for a six-night stay, this level of detail felt lacking.
- On the fifth day, I started feeling ill during breakfast, so I tried to take my food up to our room. However, when I was leaving the buffet area, the staff stopped me, saying breakfast had to be eaten in the dining area. After explaining that I wasn’t feeling well, they eventually allowed me to take my plate upstairs—but then refused to let my fiancé join me with his food. He ended up eating quickly in the buffet area before coming up to check on me. This policy felt inappropriate, especially since room service is offered, so it’s not as though they mind food in the rooms.
- Lastly, beware of stinging jellyfish in the ocean! While the sting only lasts about 10-20 minutes, it’s still a bit of a shock if you’re not prepared.
The Good....
- The resort offers a free shuttle to town at regular intervals (the road is too steep to walk). However, note that the only return shuttle is scheduled for 7:30 pm. You'll have to pay $400TBH to get a taxi back.
- The beach and surrounding grounds are beautiful, and without the construction, I’m sure they’d be even more amazing.
- As an apology for the construction, the hotel provided one free cocktail per person from 4-6 pm and one hour of free kayak or paddleboard rental each day. However, snorkeling still had a fee, which was disappointing.
- The breakfast buffet had a decent selection. However, the potatoes and grilled tomatoes were lukewarm at best, even if you arrived right when the buffet opened.
Personally, I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

Do yourself a favor and don't come to this hotel. There was construction here with terrible noise from 8 in the morning until 5 in the evening, they did not notify us at all and charged full price for the stay. after talking with the manager , he shows us that it appears in the fine print in the conditions on the website we booked, in a place where no one really sees it and he says there is nothing to do and it is our problem because it written there . after he ask if we want to move to another room but it doesn't matter because the noise is just everywhere and the room is far from the entry. In addition to all this, there is a bad smell in the rooms relatively far from the city and simply a disdainful attitude from the staff and the manager. The only thing that is beautiful here is the beach and that's it, but the noise of the construction comes there as well

Horrible place!
The location was very far away from any activity on the island. Without motorbikes you are stuck there.
The room was horrendous, for sure not worth the money! Located 10 minutes away from the lobby after a stairs hiking, there were stains all over the sheets, no hot water, animals in the room, and horrific breakfast.
When we complained to the team they were rude and especially the manager - she didn’t care at all and tried to made us stay in the room.
Stay away from this place!!!!!!!!

The place is really beautiful. The beach there is also really beautiful.
Unfortunately I didn't know that there were a lot of families and children.
The staff is very professional.
The sea is beautiful but when there is low tide, it is not possible to swim because the water level is too low.
The food is good, but there are very few options for vegetarians and vegans.
The cleaning is not good, they don't clean the room, they just make the bed. So you have to ask for it.

A little disappointed with the service of the lady at reception, she obviously took her job very seriously. We asked if we could book a shuttle to town, she replied what time ? I ask for 3pm please. She replied with a raised voice in a very abrupt manner. SHUTTLE ONLY 2pm and 6pm. I do not know why you would ask what time I wanted a shuttle, if you are going to shout and be rude to your guest. For a four star hotel I was disappointed, breakfast was mediocre, thai food at the restaurant not so great and expensive. The bell boys and cleaners are polite and worked very hard but the receptionist are unwelcoming and rude. We booked for two nights and wanted to extend our stay , but after our treatment we left and went eles where. The beach is nice and the sea is full of coral cannot swim when the tide is low, such a shame because there must have been a beautiful reef before the resort was built. There are so many other places with excellent bungalows on the beach, this one was a let down.

My solo trip to Haadtien Beach Resort was an enchanting experience. The resort's beach is a true gem, with its soft, powdery white sand and clear, turquoise waters. I spent hours strolling along the shore, soaking in the natural beauty and tranquility of this stunning location.
Despite a few minor issues, such as occasional slow service and some maintenance hiccups, the highlights of my stay were numerous. The beautiful sunsets over the ocean were mesmerizing. Dave, the Guest Relations Manager, truly stood out during my visit. His perfect English and warm, friendly demeanor made my solo travel experience smooth and enjoyable. Dave provided excellent recommendations for local activities and dining, ensuring I made the most of my stay. I am immensely grateful for his exceptional service, which made my trip all the more memorable. Haadtien Beach Resort is a fantastic destination for anyone seeking a tranquil and picturesque beach getaway with top-notch personalized care.

Resort is very nice, I would say close to luxury. Venue is in very good condition, I stayed in bungalow and in my opinion this room need a bit taking care of wooden elements besides that was very good. Breakfasts and food in the restaurant on high level. Restaurant is a bit expensive as for Thailand conditions. You need to calculate 3 times higher prices than normally in the town. From resort is direct access to the most beautiful beach in the island. Basically is very private spot. As a guest you can rent a kayak or sub. Water in the beach is shallow however all the bay is covered by coral. Is a perfect spot for snorkeling. In the very morning hours at the end of the bay during snorkeling you can see turtles and reef sharks. Close to bay is excellent spot for diving. All personel was very kind and helpful.

We liked a lot about this place! It was a great place to stay on the island and felt like we were secluded in a good way. The adventerous taxi up hills to this place was fun and felt like we were secluded from other travellers. The hotel was very nice and the staff were friendly and helpful. The bars were good and the beach was great. We rented snorkels for the day and also got the kayak for free. We saw fish and corals just past the buoys on the beach. It was a great place to stay and we'd highly recommend. We liked that we could walk to Shark View Bar for a change of scenery, which made us feel like we weren't stuck on a resort.

Not really sure why there are so many bad reviews for this resort. Yes the rooms are a bit dated and in need of a bit of TLC. Other than that it’s a nice place to stay, the breakfast is limited but always plenty on offer and the staff all work really hard and most have to do multiple jobs. The beach is excellent and mostly is kept clean despite the amount of day trippers that visit the resort.
