Cham's House

First of all, they are in the midsts of renovations. The pool, reception and restaurant all had a make over. As well as the rooms. It feels impressive and the location near the beach is awesome. You get a bottle of wine, water, fresh and new towels and the sunbeds and kayak are new and free of charge. Breakfast could be better, price is too high if you have to pay. The staff is very friendly but they cant speak english well. The renovations have been done a bit sloppy/in a rush and if you have an eye for detail you will notice it. The price is reduced due to the renovations going on because the hotel is not fully booked, which brings peace and quiet also. So all in all, in really do hope they continue in the right direction because I feel that the former owner didnt do the hotel any good.

We just arrived at Cham's House for our 12 night stay, that was supposed to be a relaxing splurge at a nice resort for the end of a 7- week South East Asia trip. I was really excited to stay here but upon arrival I was disappointed.

Unfortunately, we did not read the reviews before booking. The pictures online look absolutely beautiful with stunning rooms, beach and pool. Sadly, the pictures are somewhat misleading. The resort is definitely a bit run down. Many tiles in the pool are falling off and yellowing, some fixtures in our villa were worn out, faded wood and paint, etc. I also noticed quite a lot of large, dead bugs in the pool, a huge cockroach in the lobby bathroom, and tiny ants inside our room.

I was rather disappointed with our check in. We booked 2 rooms online (I was traveling with my parents and sharing a room with my brother.) We specifically booked this hotel because there was an option to book a room with 2 double beds. When we got to the room it only had one king size bed. They told us they had no rooms in the entire resort with 2 beds, even though that's what we booked and paid for.

The man who checked us in said he would give us separate blankets.. which was definitely not ok for us (as we are adult siblings. 🙄) He seemed kind of hesitant to call housekeeping about getting us another bed. Our only option was to set up a tiny cot in an already pretty small villa and we will have to take turns sleeping in it. (My brother is 6ft tall and over 200lbs.)

The second problem on arrival was the electricity did not work in our room. After setting up the extra bed, they had to send 2 staff members and an electrician to fiddle around with the wiring until it came on...

We haven't even been at the resort for an hour and these are already the issues we've had. Hopefully the rest of our 12 night stay won't be as rough. I can't say anything about the food or drinks yet as I haven't tried them. However, the beach does look nice.

I was also not very impressed with the seating around the pool- I've never stayed at even a 2 star resort with a pool that didn't have proper lounge chairs. There were a total of 6 bean bag type things on the ground and 2 umbrellas.

It would be great if management could take the feedback they have been receiving and make the necessary improvements, as I still think the resort has lots of potential to be exceptional.
