Reviews
The bad; housekeeping is barely meeting the minimum requirement. Filth on doors, walls, switches. Ceiling fan hasn’t been cleaned in years, vents stacked with dirt. Furniture worn and very very very uncomfortable. Bed is 3 star hotel. Moldy caulk. No soap, shampoo, or conditioner in shower - empty bottles, odd. Overall very tired property that has seen updating over the years but lacks continued maintenance and cleaning standards. I’ve stayed in many Garden Inn properties and this one is below average.
The concerning; housekeeping walked in unannounced each day. Maybe lock your door at all times and don’t keep anything valuable out.
My pup got a treat bag upon check in, nice touch! He was happy!
First issue: I found a notice in my room (not at the front desk, not at check-in) saying that hotel staff would be entering every room to replace locks — even if you had a Do Not Disturb sign out. That means someone will open your door, remove the old lock, put in a new one, and leave. Honestly, that’s just not okay. If you’re staying in a hotel, privacy matters. They should’ve mentioned this during check-in or before booking.
Second problem: the parking lot. They’re resealing it on July 9th and 10th, but again, the only heads-up was a paper flyer inside the room — after I had already parked. Everyone was fighting for space on the west side since the front was closed, and it was chaos. I ended up having to move my truck just to avoid being towed. If you’re doing major work like that, tell people at check-in — don’t bury it in a room note.
Room itself was okay. It hasn’t been remodeled yet. Power outlets are older and kind of limited, so bring a power strip if you have multiple devices. Definitely not up to the newer Hilton standard yet.
The people were kind, the breakfast was good, and the place has potential, but with surprise construction, room entry without warning, and parking confusion — this just wasn’t a smooth stay. Might be a better pick once renovations are fully done.
My two issues with this place, one outside the hotels control:
- Guest: wife and MIL went to the bar and immediately a guest asked their political perspectives and started debating with them. We are a progressive and agnostic/atheist household, but we never bring it up. The first conversation with a guest was them approaching and asking our religious and political preference, him being a far right individual. After driving for 8 hours, this was the last thing that was pleasant.
- Breakfast: What they offer for breakfast is what most hotels offer for free. I would understand a breakfast menu that is worth paying for, but it felt exactly the same as to what other hotels provide with your room, except this hotel charges $10+ per plate.
Overall, my issues with the hotel is nothing in comparison for the safety I felt with other guests and the staff. Especially when I am unfamiliar with these states as I drive across them and not being a white male, it always feels intimidating visiting states outside my comfort zone.
