Reviews
We arrived late and it took a long time to get into the hotel. The doors were locked and we had to wait until another guest was leaving. The other guest almost didn't let us in, until we convinced them we were just trying to check in. Once we were in the lobby, it took a while to get checked in. The woman working the front desk was doing her best, and it definitely seemed like she needed some more help.
The part of the stay that was the most irritating: the room was SO HUMID. We were out all day and came back to the room to find it was still humid, warm, and stuffy, even though we left the fan on all day. Condensation had collected on the inside of the windows and water was dripping off the top of the window frame. Nothing dried - all my towels stayed damp the entire time. We were there for 4 days.
So the building has definitely seen some better days and is dated but the entire interior has been renovated. The reception hall is open and welcoming with the lounge access and breakfast bar. The rooms are updated, with comfortable beds, large screen TVs and a nice bathroom. Downtown Durham does not have a lot of y’all building so chances are that if you get a high level floor, you will get a nice view. The hotel is located in central durham in walking distance to great restaurants, the DPAC, and the Durham Bulls stadium.
Best parts: the staff. Everyone I talked to was incredibly friendly. From the front desk, to the bar tender, to the waitress to room service - everyone was very nice and made me feel welcomed.
The one bad - the elevators are dated and slow. Perhaps a leftover from the building but nothing that would ruin your trip.
Conclusion - you may pull up to the building and regret your choice but give it a chance and walk inside. You cannot beat the location, and the friendliness of the staff.
