Tides Folly Beach

We recently stayed at Tides Folly Beach and were very unimpressed with what we saw. However, first, a couple of good notes.
Michael, the doorman, was wonderful! He chatted to us as he took the luggage to our room, and he was very hospitable. Unfortunately, his last day was during our trip, so we didn’t get to enjoy his company very long. The swimming pool was also decent and the water was clear. The location on the beach was wonderful, and it had a private parking lot which was convenient!
Now the low points, and the reason for the low rating. I’ve stayed in hotels many times and was very discouraged by the lack of items in the room that I normally see, even in hotels that have lower ‘stars’ than Tides. There was no hairdryer, alarm clock (there wasn’t even a clock), the bath towels provided to us were very small (probably half the size of normal towels?) and they didn’t provide enough for the whole trip. The room also only had hot water which was nice for showers, but less pleasant for drinking and brushing teeth.
Overall, Tides Folly Beach is promoted as a three star hotel, but I’ve stayed in two star hotels that have provided better amenities than what we were given here. When we come back to Charleston, we will spend our time and money elsewhere.

Reading reviews and seeing clean shocked me. Hotel is in good area with nice views. However, in need of serious deep clean and preventive maintenance. Walls and ceilings have marks and rust all over. Elevator tracks had thick dirt and cigarette butts. Room had no cold water, rust, dirt and moldy caulking. Water in toilet remained a light yellow. Checked in and had moldy mattress with dead skin cells and hair. Lamp had thick dust. If you enjoy the days inn with a beach view, that is tides.
