Residence Inn by Marriott Pittsburgh Oakland/University Place

First impression was disappointing with William, the so called front desk supervisor who was checking us in. Don’t think he’s cut out for the hospitality business. No welcome greeting, smile but rather memorized scripted to get me out of the front desk asap. Efficient yes. But hello, good evening, welcome goes a long way. Got the sense that he hates his job. Also, the parking lot is a small dungeon meant for compact cars. Room was pretty decent and clean for the price.

UPDATE: RI reached out immediately to request more information and apologized for oversite in several areas. They provided verbal assurance they would work to correct several issues.
ORIGINAL: I was severely disappointed in this Residence Inn. I’ve stayed at enough RI to know what Marriott standards are and this did not meet it. The rooms are outdated and the service at the front desk was rude and poor. They allow animals which is fine but pretty sure this is old dog pee in my bathroom (see pic). Also pretty sure this is mold near the air intake. Won’t be staying here again.

I picked this hotel for the location and will say that the location is the only good thing about this hotel.
Parking is also available but spacer are tight and may be limited depending on the time you park.
I stayed in two different rooms over a month and both weren’t super clean or well kept up.
I also called for the room to be cleaned when I was out and was told it would be cleaned but it wasn’t. When I messaged about this they left new towels on the floor of the hallway instead of bringing them to me. I was in the room the entire time and waited for them to bring towels and change the trash for over an hour just to find out they left them on the dirty floor instead of knocking like a normal hotel would. I even left a message with the manager and still no improvement in service. I would not recommend staying here.

I’ve stayed in Marriott property countless times and never had an experience quite like this. I checked in later in the evening and when I went to take a shower I noticed a few hairs on the shower wall. Didn’t think much of it since I’ve had this happened at other Marriott properties. As I was showering, I noticed the shower drain was not working, by the time I was done taking a shower the water was covering most of my feet. I called the front desk and let them know to send maintenance to the room the following day. I went to bed and when I woke up I noticed that there was a spot of dried up blood in the sheets, clearly indicating that my room was not cleaned at all before I arrived. I spoke to the front desk in the morning and told them everything that happened. They made me send an email with the picture of the blood stained sheet. I was then told that someone would reach out to me, however no one called or emailed me. I decided to reach out to Marriott costumer service to tell them what happened and they helped me open up a case. I assumed that if this happened to me, it’s probably happening to others as well. For almost $200 a night, you’re better off staying somewhere else.

You think the Marriot brand stands for something right? WRONG! Unbelievably poor service!

When you stay at this hotel for one night you get a clean room. However when you stay at this hotel for multiple nights, or in our case FIVE NIGHTS, all paid at the exact same per night rate as a single, they refuse to clean your room! Basically you are living in your own filth without clean sheets, with garbage, dirty towels, no tissues, garbage bags etc. In order to have them clean my room after 4 days, I actually needed to come down to the front desk and check out!! Then I needed to check back in! Even then they didn’t bother to change the sheets, give us new towels, wipe down the counters, or clean the bathroom!!! Sickening service!! Called down and guess what, house keeping is gone and they have no other similar rooms available.

Marriott, stop pulling the COVID BS card to save money and abuse your longer term guests!! The pandemic is over so stop using that silly excuse to no longer offer half decent service to multi night guests paying the exact same per night rate!!
