Holiday Inn Resort South Padre Island-Beach Front, an IHG Hotel

It was ok. Just that. Nothing great, nothing too bad, just some irritants. The first floor ice maker didn't work the full four days. Our room would intermittently not lock when we closed it. The "on demand" hot water system resulted in a lot of wasted time waiting for hot water. Our king sized bed room only had one nightstand. The toilet rocked when you sat down on it. Plugs not conveniently located. Smart TV didn't stream.

Like I said, it was fine. The staff was friendly. The place was clean. Just not great. Location on the beach is the redeeming factor. And the Seaside Bar behind it.

Finding the main entrance is confusing, there's no sign and you have to guess it is there. Hotel was super busy and the room they got us was still being used by someone else. The second tower only had one elevator working (barely) for the entire weekend and there was no way to get to the floors from the stairway.
The atmosphere at the pool bar on Saturday was amazing, but the water got completely nasty - incredibly the restroom at the pool area (way too tiny for the demand and way too hidden) was super clean, what made me wonder... well, you know... pool, beer, lots of people...
Location is privileged, can't deny it. Super easy access to the beach, although there is no beach service at all, it's easy to get food and drinks from the beachfront restaurant, as long as you bring you own cooler and you have patience. Lots of it. Beachfront restaurant service is below average, being very generous. Everything takes long, even to get the menu when you sit. Drinks are great, but honestly, one really needs patience.

Resort was okay. Front desk staff were nice & check in was quick. The lobby was very clean & the bar was big. We were on the 3rd floor & couldn't get phone service in the room. As a business owner it was very important to have service everywhere we went so this was a bit of a let down as we kept having to exit our room & go to the balcony by the elevators. Three of us have different carriers AT&T, Cricket & T-Mobile & none of them worked in the room. Wifi was spotty. The room smelled musty and the carpets were slightly damp when we first got to the room. The safe in the room didn't work which was fine as we didn't need it. The bathroom was very very small. I am 5'1 120lbs & found it very hard to maneuver in there. The beds need to be updated. Being a resort I figured the beds would be pillow tops or better quality. On the Saturday 6/24 when we arrived, the hotel bars were experiencing some issues with the credit card machines. The drink area across from the center pool was only accepting cash which was fine but some others were turned away. I enjoyed the swim-up bar pool & the DJ was playing so many great tunes. That pool area was having issues with their cc machine also but it was resolved while we were there. The pools are not deep but were also not crowded so if your just lounging it is ideal. Access to the beach was great & it was very clean. Check out was quick & staff was very helpful. Overall it was okay. Price didn't match the quality of the rooms.
