Reviews
It was created and is still owned by a local born Cypriot, and this fact is highlighted in how sympathetically the design integrates seamlessly within the old town.
It is a split level facility in that there are the restaurant and spa facilities, including the reception, on the lower level of the town and a lift car takes you up into the top level where there are about a dozen restaurants and cafes including 2 restaurants owned by the hotel itself.
One thing to look at is to make sure you are on the lower level with the spa and reception as having a villa or apartment on the top level of the town is a bit inconvenient, depending on how many times you use the facilities offered at the lower level that is.
The rooms themselves are beautifully appointed suites set into the small cobbled streets and villas of the town. It's really nicely done, and it's easily one of the best examples of this type of integration I have ever seen.
The breakfast offered is well worth it and a must to be honest, and I can see no point in not taking advantage of this if offered.
The spa was very nice with hydro pools and massage suites and plunge pools as is usual for a 5* Mediterranean spa. The only issue I had was the cost as, even for guests, the cost of a 2 hour stay in the spa is €30 and then you have treatments starting at €50 and beyond.
My main issue with this is that other 5* hotels and spas I have stayed in provide the spa free for guests, and you normally only pay for treatments. I understand that the spa is run by a separate company, but it is marketed as a hotel and spa and is located within the hotel itself.
It makes it slightly worse that the only pool outside of the spa is for private use of the most expensive villa that you can rent there. So, if you want a pool to lounge around in, then it will cost you €30 per person, and you only have it for 2 hours at a time! Disappointing.
The overall costs of our 2 suites for 5 people with spa treatments and breakfast were commensurate with the more expensive 5* hotels in Cyprus. Build in costs for the spa and take note of the lack of a pool to avoid disappointment.
One word of advice is not to park the car them carry all your bags back as its a good 5 minutes on cobbled streets. Park the car over the bridge, walk down to the reception, and they will take you down to the car and get your bags with one of the golf carts they have by reception. Same when you check out....in reverse!
Recommended with the caveats above. I took off a star for the lack of an outside pool for guests.
I understand that the hotel staff isn't responsible for things that were left in the rooms, and I really like this place, but I am so upset by the fact that nobody tried to help me and the fact that I have lost a thing I really loved there, that it’s unlikely that I will choose this hotel once again.
Bathroom could use a little refresher. One thing this place is missing would be a pool, as the amount of activities in the neighborhood is somewhat limited for kids.
Pros:
-The staff is always helpful and polite
-There are couple of cute restaurants nearby
-Amazing view, quiet place, fresh air
-Spa is just a dream
-Winery, hiking trails, 11tg century monastery and others cute villages are nearby
-There’s a library in the hotel, where you can work, read or sit with your friends, partner etc
Cons:
-There’s no staff after 12AM, only an emergency contact
-You cannot access spa and swimming pool without booking in advance (at least 2 days)
-Quite pricey (we payed 400€ for 2 nights + ~50€ for dinner, ~40€ per spa)
-Nothing really to do around, it’s a tiny little village.
-The breakfast is poor and nothing really to choose from (especially when you pay so much)
I booked a superior suite with my wife, and we were unfortunately placed in the room which had more of a view of the road than the actual nature, had I known this was a possibility I would not have booked so I am sharing this for those who are in a similar situation to mine. The room itself was underwhelming although it did have a nice fire place.
For booking one of the most expensive rooms, you'd expect some sort of free gifts, such as chocolate, drinks, or something of this nature. Alas, there was none of these things. The wood provided for the fireplace was enough only for a 3 hour session.
Spa was part of the room, although, when we arrived at the spa, the Jacuzzi was cold, and the snow room was not working, you also get a 2 hour slot which you MUST book days in advance.
The food at the main restaurant was good! The walking trails were also really nice, but you don't need to stay here to experience either of these things.
Pros:
- Complimentary items in the room included a small cake and a bottle of homemade red wine;
- The room was quite cozy and comfortable;
- A pet-friendly environment with a one-time fee of 35€. They provided a couch and a bowl in the room;
- The room featured a balcony with a captivating view of the village;
- A fireplace was present, but it's important to note that only one complimentary basket of firewood is provided. Additional firewood costs 12€;
- Complimentary two hours of daily spa access, although the spa is quite small;
- The dinners from the Byzantino restaurant deserve a special mention. The food was delicious and the staff were courteous.
Moving on to the cons, which led me to give a rating of 3 stars:
- It seemed like the room hadn't been thoroughly checked prior to arrival. There were no appliances for a second guest, no corkscrew, no restaurant menus, and both dental and cosmetic kits were missing in the shower;
- Insufficient firewood fuel;
- Unstable furniture - we had to use selfmade coasters to prevent wobbling;
- The shower room requires deep cleaning due to lime plaque, dirt, and mold in the corners. (I have photos, available upon request);
- The washbasin also requires cleaning as water was not draining properly;
- Non-functional blinds in the shower;
- Poor service - the response time on our requests was slow, sometimes necessitating follow-up calls. Even reaching the reception was difficult due to long hold times. I was hoping for a birthday acknowledgment from the staff but my expectations were not met;
- In general, the room was worn out and in need of cosmetic repairs.
To conclude, the hotel was not worth the price they charged. I won't be willing to pay this much for such quality
P.S. Attached some photos with balcony view.
For winter season: Pantheon suite price is high for its location compare to Loutraki suite, because you will smell smoke from the fireplaces, all of our clothes were smoked like lountza 🤷♂️
Don’t wonder if the food in byzantino restaurant and pantheon cafe will not wonder you, it’s just regular, and to be 5 stars they should reconsider the whole menu.
Loutraki restaurant and breakfasts are really good.
Still 5 stars but it’s Cyprus 5 stars, and you will never find such fancy place in the whole Troodos
