Hotel Spitzberg Garni

This is an older building in need of renovation. It is near the train station but about a 15 minute walk from the Passauer Dom. The neighborhood is dark and not inviting. There is no air conditioning and no elevator. This was a disadvantage as our room was on the 2nd floor. If you have heavy baggage, best to choose another hotel. We were on a bike tour and even though the reservation was made months in advance, we had the feeling that we got one of the worst rooms in the hotel. The roof had steep slant and I had to crawl into my bed. I had to be careful to not bump my head getting into bed. The room was small and claustrophobic. It was a hot day and the air was stifling in the room. We were given a fan and were able to open the window at night when it cooled off. We were on the quiet side of the hotel but other rooms were on the street side, which was quite noisy. The was no water cooker and the bathroom was tiny with the minimum number of towels without enough space to even hang up the towels. The breakfast buffet was average. The staff was helpful and friendly.

Decent rooms. Who designated these hotels 4 stars? Is it out of 10? When it’s hot outside it’s too hot to sleep. No fans or moving air. Equivalent to an old motel. Check in staff was rude and unfriendly. Check out woman was nice.

Located in a shady area of town. Didn't feel too safe after dark. Friendly and helpful staff though.
