Maison des Ambassadeurs Hotel

If this place was listed as a two star or three hotel, my review would likely be more glowing, but instead, as the hotel claims to be five star I feel it's important to inform/warn others about the reality. It's run-down, not so clean (mold, dust, marks on floor and walls, etc) and not anywhere near the kind of standard you'd expect if it was among the elite.

The stars are for the location, which was just about perfect. The old part of the building was lovely, that is where the good stops and the bad starts.
My wife and I spent three nights here from 1st September.
I wish we had booked elsewhere.
On the first day, in the afternoon we sat by the pool and had a drink from the bar, the one and only drink we were able to have. The bar is not open in the evenings, the hotel advertisers the bar is open until 23:00, the hotel advertises the restaurant is open until 23:00. Still advertising this in the lift. Not correct, the bar was not open in the evenings, the restaurant was open for breakfast only. When we queried this we were told 'it is complicated' how complicated can it be to have hotel staff that can manage a bar and a restaurant.
Our room was dirty, my wife even wrote in the dust on the first day to clean it, it was still there after the cleaner had been in on the second day. The TV did not work for the first two days. Two of the four lamps required new bulbs, my wife asked for these to be replaced four times in two days but then gave up, late on the last evening these were eventually replaced.
The pool area was dirty and unkept, there were cobwebs galore in the bar area, I suppose due to the high ceiling it was a bit 'difficult' for a cleaner to grab a long handled brush and remove these, must be the same cleaner that did our room.
On the second night we returned from our evening out to find the receptionist in tears which was a bit worrying.
We were supposed to have a mini bar, that was a bit of a joke, some soft drinks and two bottles of beer. Not quite a minibar is it.
We stayed at a number of hotels during our trip around France and this was by far the most disappointing.
Would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Outrageous. This hotel is awful. The staff are awful, the service is awful, the rooms are awful. Everything is broken and tatty, the rooms have not seen a good clean or refurbishment in years. The rooms were not ready until almost 5pm after we were supposed to check in at 3pm. When you walk into the hotel the staff do not even acknowledge you. The only two good things about this hotel was the breakfast and checking out! We spent over €350 for one night expecting 5 star and a perfect end to our trip to La Rochelle and this hotel ruined the experience. Also they have no air conditioning throughout the hotel and all the fans are broken and bent. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY OR YOUR TIME ON THIS HOTEL.

Absolutely disappointed. Intended to be a luxurious final day in France. Other than the 5 star rating, there is nothing remotely 5 star about this hotel. Rooms were filthy and extremely unlike the pictures. The were stains and mould growing on the carpet. There was no internet, no air conditioning, no parking and absolutely horrific service. The experience was one I wish I had never had. Rooms are not well kept and we encountered cockroaches during our stay. Testament to the disgusting condition of the hotel! Save your money and do not support such a shocking establishment.
