Infested by bed bugs, and the owners know it! Got bitten in the first night, very characteristic bite marks that I know all too well. The owner denied this, saying it was mosquitos, but agreed to let me move rooms. In the second room, I was bitten even worse and decided to abandon this rundown place altogether. The owner then accused me of having brought the bed bugs myself. This is of course not true, as I came straight from home. He later acknowledged they have had them before, but inspect daily for them, and that there was no way of any infestation, as the cleaning crew would have seen them.
From extensive past experience, I know there is absolutely no way to see bed bugs by eye during daytime unless you have a rampant population. In fact, you need specially trained dogs to find their nests!
Clearly, this is a failing business - as evidenced by the closed down pizzeria annex, disintegrating and infested rooms, dirty bedding, low prices, and the last regional tourism office plaque dating back years - preying on short-term religious travellers without any maintenance whatsoever to squeeze out every last profit while they still can. Unfortunately, many people are still not aware of this danger and will carry these troublesome critters home with them.
I recommend avoiding this place and booking a more expensive place in Lourdes. The difference in cost is well worth not having to deal with a bed bug infestation back home.
