Reviews
I was travelling alone and meeting up with friends who were staying in La Daille. I was initially concerned that it would be problematic getting between the two, but I soon realised that it was considerable easier than staying in Tignes Le Lac, as there are direct buses in the morning and evening and skiing over the top is really fast and straight forward.
I would describe the hotel as traditional alpine styling with loads of character. It oozes rustic charm and is cosy, intimate, friendly, with great food served in a comfortable, well laid out dining room. There is also a lounge area that is perfect for having a beer, or wine after a busy day on the slopes.
Being a skier, it's important ton have a place to dry my kit over night. To that end, there is a large room in the basement with ski racks and boot warmers. This is probably the most spacious and well equipped ski room I have ever used. There is nothing special about it beyond getting the basics right in that there's plenty of room, everything works and people are not tripping over themselves when getting ready.
Once ready for the slopes, there is a entrance directly onto the road, which doesn't require walking through the hotel and avoids a lot of steps. When outside, it's a short walk to the slope (head left and down the road), where you can clip/strap in and take a short schuss to the gondola, which was never busy.
Finally, I would like to call out Christian (hope the spelling is correct), who made my stay. I received a call from him a few days before I left just to check in and ask what my ETA would be. From that point onwards, he could not do enough for me. My flight was delayed twice and it's fair to say the my journey to the resort was problematic. As my ETA arrived (and I was nowhere near Tignes) Christian phoned me and I informed him that I was running late. He did not hesitate to reassure me that everything was OK and that he would wait for me, even though it would be quite late. When I arrived, it was a bit of a walk uphill to the hotel over icy ground. I made it to the Hotel and arrived to a warm welcome and a beer. In fact, Christian did tell me that I should have called and he would have picked me up from the bus stop.
During the time as my host, Christian was always pleasant, friendly and asked me about my day. His English is more than adequate, but not perfect, but it was much better than my French and he always put the effort in to make sure I understood what he was saying. I think this made it a little more special, which I really appreciated. In fact, he was such a great host, I really wish I could have spoken with him more and resolved to improve my French, which I have been doing since that trip. As a side note, there are some picture of the dam being built and flooding and it would have been great to speak with him about this.
Sadly, the time came to leave and head back home and Christian demonstrated great kindness again, by taking me and my kit to the bus stop, which meant that I would not have to navigate my way down an icy pathway.
Thank you Hôtel La DôME for a special week.
Relaxed atmosphere, with board games in the bar, really excellent food. I wish I could've stayed longer.
