Aegeo Hotel in Folegandros Town

We spent 5 nights in this hotel and our advice to you is, do your research for better places to stay (there are many) in Folegandros before booking this one.

Aegeo is a 2 star hotel, therefore it is commercially oriented and does not compare to your typical warm and unique Airbnb experience.

While staying there, we compared the prices between Airbnb and major hotel booking websites and realised that the owners charge more on Airbnb than they do on other platforms which really goes against the spirit of the Airbnb community and good business practices in our opinion.

That being said, this hotel offers small, convenient and cute rooms with daily cleaning services, like any other hotel. A basic breakfast was included (beverage, fruits and bread) and for an additional charge you can get one soft boiled egg, a few slices of tomato and cheese. It's a tiny village so in comparison to other hotels the location of Aegeo is ok, nothing more. Wifi is provided but doest not work inside the rooms most of the time possibly because of the concrete. There is a tiny yard while many other hotels offer a pool and resting areas. The hotel manager Sofia is great but the owners did not interact with any of the guests during our stay except for billing.

Most of the time the place is quiet but some days there were a lot of people (seems like they invite their family and friends over) and the hotel was quite busy and loud. Unfortunately one day an older man (presumably staff) attempted to enter our room without knocking while we were still in the room (this was later in the afternoon after the morning cleaning was done)...

The tipping point for us was their shuttle service (which every hotel on the island offers because of the lack of infrastructure) dropped us at the port no more than 5 minutes before our boat departure despite the fact that we had informed them the previous day of the time we had to leave by. The other guests did not miss their boat but unfortunately for us because of a glitch in the system with our tickets (booked 2 months in advance) and the lack of time for the agent to solve the problem, we missed our boat.

As a result, my pregnant wife and I got stuck at the port with our luggage waiting for 12 hours in the sun for the next boat. That messed up our itinerary and ultimately stole a day of our vacation in a place we will most likely visit but once in our lifetime.

We informed the hotel right away but they only got back to us 3 hours later and instead of offering help or at least keeping our luggage for the day, they never apologised and they blamed us for it and ignored any further communication.

82% of Airbnb places have 4.5 stars rating or more because people are happy and enjoying life while on vacation but that is not necessarily helpful to compare places.

In all honesty, again our advice to you is to look into other places to stay on this wonderful island so you can respectfully enjoy the most out of your vacation.
