First visit to Greece and won gold ! What a great resort Porto Skala Hotel Village is. The swimming pool and its surroundings are large and there is plenty of room for all. The area, including the pool bar, is also very clean and well maintained. Drinks at the bar are a bit pricey, especially spirits, but probably normal for hotels in general.
There is an amazing food selection every morning and evening. Special mention for Maria and her staff for the huge variety of food served, particularly her delightful desserts. In general, all staff were attentive and polite.
The hotel is situated a long walk from Skala, but there is an hourly shuttle bus to and from for a small charge. This also makes the resort quiet, and there is no evening entertainment. Skala itself is pretty, clean, with many good taverns, restaurants and a well-preserved Roman Villa.
Opposite the hotel are 2 pebble coves perfect for snorkelling amongst the large variety of native fish, only downside is access via the rough steps would be challenging for anyone disabled.
Steps make up a lot of the route to the rooms which are clean and airy. A bit outdated but perfectly functional with a great mattress (always a worry for me) efficient A/C to counter the 37°C we had during our stay and a small balcony to sit out on to listen to the cicadas. WiFi was slow and a bit sketchy during high demand periods but sufficient.
Overall, the strengths clearly outnumbered the weaknesses, I would happily recommend the hotel to anyone and intend to return one day.

Peaceful. Out of town. Having slight COPD, plus larger than average, managed to walk down into main town, but caught hotel transport/or local taxi back. Great attentive staff from Reception, Dining Room, Domestic services. Thinking about a return visit in June 2024.

It was a really nice stay here, very quiet away from the nearest town of Scala, the hotel provided a bus service into Scala but you might miss all the lovely cafes on the way down.

We had lovely 7 days spent in this hotel. Hotel is cool and picturesque, we recommend asking for a sea view room, we saw sun rising every morning from our balcony. If you don’t have a car, it’s a 30 minutes walk to village of skala where you have all bars and restaurants. Long straight road, always with a pavement and sea view. Hotel has a very decent shuttle to the village, which has a timetable and needs to be booked , but short notice can be given. Staff was really helpful, specially Evelyn and Marianna. Very small, semi private and idyllic beach in front of hotel (entrance is through car park and not the gate in front of hotel), most beautiful and peaceful water. Nearby you have nautilus restaurant (10 min walk), very good, supermarket 20 min walk (expensive and recommend walking a bit more and going to the next supermarket a bit further away. First proper beach will be by nautilus (so a 10 min walk) but best beach in my opinion around the area is Spithi. We went end of September, beginning of October so it was pretty quiet all around, which was great. Shuttle costs 1.5 euros per person per trip which is decent. Views are lovely, breakfast is really varied with Greek options too. Pool has showers if you want to enjoy your last day after check out, my only con would be the music choice for the pool which I don’t think it was appropriate and not very relaxing . Hotel has pool, fusball, ping pong, Mini library where you can exchange books, so a lot to do if weather is not great or you want to chill by hotel. We had a lovely time and thank you for looking after us (they got cats too) :)

We spent 10 nights bed and breakfast in the Porto Skala Hotel. It definitely has its pro's and con's. The Hotel has been rated as 4 star. It's nearer to a 2 star in my opinion. The rooms are tired and in need of modernisation. However they are clean. Our room was located next door to the cleaners cupboard which meant we were woken up early every morning be the hotel staff talking loudly and doors slamming. The breakfast was good with a decent choice. However there is only one toaster, which must be 20 years old and only holds 2 piece's of bread. So the queue for toast was sometimes a bit ridiculous. Why not just buy a couple of extra toasters!!??. There is also only 1 coffee machine, which also causes queues. If you want lunch by the pool then I'm afraid your very limited. Your choice is either Greek salad with feta or a cheese, ham and sandwich. That's literally it. No bar menu offering anything else at all. There are no shops or supermarkets nearby so this lack of choice seems daft. All drinks are served in plastic cups even if you remain at the bar which i didn't like. Also Hotel staff, when not busy loiter around the pool or bar area. They literally sit on tables smoking and looking at their phones, sometimes in groups. I found this to be unprofessional and off putting when guests are trying to relax around the pool. I've not seen staff do this at any other I've stayed in As mentioned already, there are no shops or supermarkets for at least a mile or so. However the hotel does run an excellent shuttle service from the hotel into Skala. This cost 1.50 euro each. We made use of this every day. The bar staff won't let you pay for drinks at the time of purchase. You settle you drinks and services bill upon checkout. I personally would have preferred to pay for my drinks there and then but I wasn't given the choice. The WiFi isn't brilliant either On the whole this hotel is ok but needs some TLC. I loved Skala as a place but unfortunately I won't return to this hotel.

If you are looking to get back to traditional Greece and not the tourist hot spots that have changed so many if the other islands then I recommend Kefalonia. Porto Scala Village and hotel has pros and cons. Unfortunately there are more cons than pros. Pros The staff are all polite and helpful. The food is delicious with a good choice at breakfast and dinner. Lunch is a whole different story - see below. The view from the rooms is magical. Cons Poor state of cleanliness, my shower leaked, they had tried to fix this unsuccessfully which just made the shower grim. Dirty tea cups were not removed from the room, when reported this was tidied however was not consistent. I had to use my phone torch to lock my door at night because the electric card is attached to the key, you can't use them at the same time. This hotel is isolated, yes you can walk into the town, about 35 minutes not ideal in 30° heat, there is a minibus but you cannot just spontaneously get on you have to book. The bar in the lounge is shut, in order to get a drink on the verander you have to go to reception and request a waiter who comes up from the pool bar. Lunch choice is appalling, the same two items every day, cheese and ham baguette or salad bowl. This wouldn't be a problem if you could pop out and get food. The description does say that there steps to the entrance but be advised that there are quiet a lot when you are trying to get your suitcase to reception. On the whole I enjoyed my holiday but would return.

Rooms are basic. Has sea view, but no beach close. Is far from town center, offer shuttle service, but is not free. Has good breakfast buffet, not sure about lunch/dinner as we used local restaurants for other meals. Bar is limited on options, no cocktails/coffee's. Would not recommend, as there is better options in Skala

This was a lovely hotel, rooms, staff, food etc., all great. But... the location is too far from any shop, bar or the centre. About 30 minutes plus, walk from the centre, which in the heat is not good for older people. The hotel runs a shuttle bus to the centre (1.50 euro each Sept 2024) but it must be booked in advance and has limited hours of operation) Also, the shuttle bus is quite high to get in and out of.  A simple folding step, as used by other vehicles would be the solution. A taxi back from the shuttle drop is 8 euro (Sept 2024) There are MANY steps from the main road to and from reception and to the rooms. The way to the beach immediately opposite the steps down from the hotel reception are steep, no hand rail and in my opinion currently dangerous. (and from comments from other guests) So, unless you are quite mobile and have a car or just want an excellent hotel, great food and pool & really friendly staff this may not be the place for you.

I stayed there with my family, no complaints about the rooms they were very clean and the housekeeping was amazing at their job , the hotel was very clean and the breakfast menu had a variety of amazing products but not everything is as it seems, if you plan on staying there keep in mind that in almost all their rooms the Wi-Fi and Data do not work unfortunately, if you want to surf the net you have to go into the pool area where the Hotel Wi-Fi is working, lastly the reception was not helpful at all when I made a complaint about the Wi-Fi , instead she said that they would check it out ( they never did) after I made that complaint she was so rude not even responding to our greetings out of spite every time we went back in our rooms from an outing. I never felt so unwelcomed before in a Hotel , please keep in mind that not all staff is rude, everyone else was amazing and welcoming, the receptionist also chose how to speak to certain guests so if you go you might have a more pleasant time than we did , the pool is very clean but be careful at the pool stairs because it is unfortunately broken ! Thank you for your time reading my review!

We had the most amazing stay at the Porto Skala hotel and I would not hesitate to book here again! First and foremost the staff who work here are lovely, especially Giannis and Evelyn who went out of their way to talk to us every night- they made our holiday truly wonderful. The breakfast selection is the best I have seen in Greece, with freshly prepared pancakes and waffles featuring every other day. The rooms are serviced daily and sheets are changed every 3 days. Air conditioning and the safe are also included in the price, which was a welcome surprise! Yes, the location is a little out of the way, but there is a shuttle bus from the hotel that runs from 9am-9pm daily for a small charge of €1.50 per person. The walk down into the centre of Skala takes approximately 35 minutes- we walked in on some days but preferred to take the bus. We also got a taxi back every night from the town- this cost €7-€8 depending on whether the drivers were local or if they had travelled from Argostoli. We liked the peaceful aspect of the hotel, with access to the secluded cove and a quiet pool area with plenty of sun beds. We often went to the pool around 5.30pm for a cool evening dip. If I could change anything, it would be to remove the feature of a tab. We prefer to pay for bar drinks and snacks upfront as we always have a daily budget, so we only used the pool bar twice. We would’ve used it more if we could pay upfront. This is only a minor niggle and I would definitely return again! :)
