Il Belvedere Hotel

We recently had the pleasure of staying at the Belvedere Hotel in Matera, and I cannot recommend it highly enough! Although it’s listed as a three-star hotel, it truly bats well above its weight, offering one of the most enjoyable experiences I've ever had.

We stayed in an executive cave suite, and it was absolutely stunning—definitely one of the best rooms I’ve ever occupied! The unique cave design added an incredible charm to our stay, and the attention to detail was evident throughout the room.

The owners of the hotel are young and passionate, and this enthusiasm shines through in every aspect of the establishment. They have created a five-star experience at half the price, and it shows!

Breakfast on the terrace was a highlight, featuring delicious options and a breathtaking view over Matera that is truly captivating. The location is fantastic, just a few minutes' walk from major attractions, making it incredibly convenient for exploring the city; and I loved that the mini bar was included in the price of our stay.

However, what really sets the Belvedere Hotel apart is the exceptional care provided by the staff. Their attention to detail and dedication to ensuring guests have a memorable experience make this hotel stand out.

I can’t imagine a better hotel experience, and the value for what you receive is remarkable. If you’re visiting Matera, do yourself a favor and book a stay at the Belvedere Hotel! You won’t regret it!

We booked for a room “in grotta”. The room was nice and comfortable (regardless the stairs). The location is truly unique. There is a wide space just in front of it to park and offload bags and check in. Than there is a parking at less than 2 minutes walking on the same street (10€ per day). The view is truly breathtaking and the terrace where they serve breakfast and aperitivo truly gives a unique view of the sassi! The staff truly amazing. Extremely friendly and professional!
Definitely a place I would go back to and recommend to anyone looking for a real “sassi” experience.

Absolutely loved Il Belvedere it was one of our favourite little hotels on our 4 month trip. Rooms are so clean spacious and nice and the staff absolutely amazing and so service orientated. Breakfast was beautiful also. Position perfect within walking distance to everywhere and the view over the Sassi breathtaking. Would absolutely 100% recommend staying here and parking across the street! 😊

Staff was great, specially Davide! He helped with great tips for what to see and where to go. Very friendly, professional, and smiling person! Excellent location, beautiful views, delicious breakfast and well maintained rooms. New towels and sheets every single day. Highly recommend it!

The welcome at the hotel was great with detailed descriptions about tours, parking etc. Things to work on are their online reservations process.

This hotel is fabulous. The view is amazing and breakfast is terrific. Our room was a cave -- as well as huge and very well-appointed, including our own private patio. The staff is very helpful and friendly. A bit of a walk to the center of town, but it's a beautiful stroll. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat!

Perfect Place to stay in Matera. Beautiful views from the terrace, great breakfast buffet, spacious and clean rooms, staff very kind and helpful. Location in the middle between free public parking (via Via Cappuccini) and the Sassi (10 min walk).
