What a wonderful find! After the craziness of the 5 villages in Cinque Terre, Hotel Paradiso was just what we needed. Hotel is set in a beautiful location, rooms are clean and comfortable and the terrace is wonderful for a drink. But what makes this hotel is the staff. Welcoming and warm, we couldn’t have asked for more. Thank you.

My family had a wonderful experience staying at the lovely Hotel Paradiso in Portovenere. The rooms were all quite comfortable and had a wonderful view of the bay, where we could relax and watch the ships come and go. My youngest daughter loved that her room had a loft with a little skylight that could open so she could peek her head out and enjoy the view.

The hotel is a family business and Fabrizio and his son Stef are incredibly hospitable. They were attentive to our needs and loved to learn about our backgrounds. We were only there for three nights but they truly made us feel like family. Fabrizio's amazing wife Titi makes delicious tarts and each morning we were greeted with a delightful spread of cakes and savory goodies. The breakfast there is second to none. Having your cappuccino while watching the tranquility of the bay was a wonderful way to kick off the day.

The relaxing terrace is a beautiful spot to enjoy a happy hour and refreshment. And like the menu says, the wine bar is "always open!" I recommend having an Aperol Spritz and admire the view.

The hotel is just a short stroll from the lovely downtown area of Porto Venere, which is a charming village made up of delightful shops and restaurants. You will enjoy fresh fish and mussels, amazing pesto and my favorite, ravioli with walnut sauce.

If your travels take you through Portovenere, you should strongly consider staying at the Paradiso. It is easy to access the Cinque Terre from there, via the hourly ferry service. Staying at the Paradiso was a real highlight of our two week vacation to Italy and we hope to come back and stay there again soon!

Thank you for a great stay, Paradiso!

Family run hotel. Great service. Fantastic terrace. Beautiful view of the ocean and mountains. Great location-walkable to downtown. Room clean (small). Clean and updated bathroom.

Breakfast options offered a wide variety of food items and all was fresh. Location was ideal as it was a couple of min from the beach and about a 5-10 min walk to the centre. Restaurants and bars were plentiful. We loved this location moreso than any of the CinqueTerre.

Lovely location, amazing views for this quaint hotel. Staff was very friendly. The name is a bit confusing when locating the hotel via Google maps. It is seen as a restaurant not a hotel. It is both actually. Breakfast had many options... Eggs, bacon, croissants, other typical Italian sweets, meats and cheeses. Only note: eggs were cold, coffee was slightly warm. The view over the water, in their dinning area, is spectacular.

The location is excellent. And that's really the only good thing I can say about this place. The rooms were tiny, with smaller than normal beds and no space to walk to the bathroom, no space for luggage. The "closets" are about 4 inches deep so you can't really put anything in them at all. The hairdryer was a non-functional weird vacuum tube into the wall.

But the worst part was the service. We were on our honeymoon and are both quite tall, so I paid extra to book a family room and confirmed ahead of time we could push 2 beds together so we'd actually have enough space to sleep comfortably. When we arrived the afternoon of check-in, the hotel had decided that since we were only 2 people they would put us in a single room. They told me they gave our room away and there were no other options. They gave us 40 euros to make it up to us, even though I had paid far more than that for the upgraded room. We called Expedia to help us, and they confirmed with the hotel that they had made an error so tried to book us into another hotel. There wasn't anything available at all in town that night, but they were able to book us into another hotel the following night.

While I was talking to Expedia, the hotel folks called our room. We told them we were on the phone and we'd talk to them when we were done. Then they called again. And again. And again. We asked them to stop calling us, told us we'd come down to talk to them in a moment. They called again. They called incessantly so we took the phone off the hook. I finished the call with Expedia and went to use rinse off in the shower quickly while my husband went down to find out what the hotel wanted. All of a sudden there was a loud banging on our room door. I told them I couldn't come to the door right now and that I would be down in a minute. They banged again. I told them to go away. They started banging loudly and without stopping, and kept going for at least 3 minutes straight. I was scared and screaming for them to go away. I kept saying "leave me alone" and "no" and "stop" but they kept banging on the door. When I was able to get out and get dressed, I ran to the door and opened it and screamed at the man to leave me alone and went down to find my husband.

The second front desk person told me they had found another hotel for us. We told them no (it was not in the same area and it was more like an AirBnB, and we were happy with the hotel we'd be moving to the next day). He got very aggressive and threatening and told me he would make me write a note that I rejected the room he provided so that he would still get paid. I told him I wouldn't be doing that. I told him that we would stay the night and move the next day. He wasn't happy, but I was able to calm the situation down enough that I felt somewhat safe staying the night there and leaving our bags in our room while we went to dinner. It was really a terrible experience. We tried to shake it off, but I felt so threatened and scared. We made it through the night with our feet hanging off the bed and moved the next day. I've never felt so unsafe with hotel staff.

Our last hotel in Italy and we clearly saved the best (all rounder) until last. Plus points are, air conditioning that actually works, comfy bed, great location, amazing views, lift practically right down to the waters edge, 3 minute walk to the Porta Venere ferry stop, a great all round breakfast incl. hot options of Italian style bacon/eggs, and very helpful/friendly staff. Only downside is the walls between rooms seem a little thin so you can hear stuff from next door, take ear plugs and you'll be fine, we would stay again.
