Hotel Shangri-la Kota Kinabalu

Location and service-wise, I have no complaints. The location is quite strategic and central—fairly close to most places around KK itself. The staff were also nice and helpful.

However, the hotel is quite old and could really use some upgrades. The TV is outdated, with only about 5 or 6 channels, and even then, only channels 1, 2, and 3 work properly. The Wi-Fi is very weak, which makes it difficult to work from the room.

The air-conditioning is also very old; it's the kind that's controlled from a central system rather than individually in each room. This makes it inconvenient for guests who want to adjust the temperature throughout the day for their comfort.

The shower fixtures are clearly worn out, and the towels and mats provided are also noticeably old—not as clean or white as those in other hotels.

Another important point (at least for me) is the availability of plug points. There’s only one proper, functioning plug in the room. The other is an extension from the main wall socket, and it doesn’t work well with all appliances. Again, this makes it difficult to work, charge devices, or use multiple electronics at once.

Overall, it’s not a bad hotel, but there are many areas that could be upgraded to make it more modern/updated and convenient - especially in certain areas as basic as wifi or plug points. The price is quite affordable, but I’d recommend checking out other (newer) hotels or even air bnbs with better facilities for around the same price—especially if you're planning to stay more than 2 days or are traveling for work.
