Koh Yao Yai Hillside Resort

This is a hidden gem! The rooms are new, comfortable sofa bed & mattress. The attention to detail for a simple place like this is a pleasant surprise. We got the rooms with a private pool and though you can start to see some wear and tear on the pool (some tiles were missing) everything else was perfect! Loved they provided a separate outside shower to rinse before you step back into the room. Everything was clean and the items provided in the showers are all complete. Staff were friendly, breakfast selection was also decent & appropriate to the price you pay to stay here. Great value for money! A nice view of the sea and just steps away from the beach ahead though note there are other nicer beaches around this island if you want to hang out and get a tan as this beach is a little rocky.

Would definitely recommend. The rooms were spacious. We got the one directly facing the sea opposite the road. The staff is kind. Our pickup for the ferry arrived a little earlier than expected while we were having our breakfast, but the staff made sure to pack us whatever we needed. You can also rent a bike directly from them. So no need to hunt for bike somewhere else.

Nice hotel! Having a private pool is the BEST EXPERIENCE EVER. 👌 After super hot days exploring around and even going to the beaches, we just wanted to go back to our room and get into this private pool with clean and nice water. The location is not far from the pier. Breakfast was good and fresh. They have a buffet but also a small paper slip to select breakfast to be cooked upon request, fresh and included. We booked for one night but decided to extend after we got there. The reception lady was able to accommodate us to another room since the first room had a reservation already for the second night. They made it possible for us to move our bags on the second day in the morning, so we didn't need to be outside waiting until checking in time on the second day. All rooms have different characteristics, the Oceanview room was nice, but we rather the privacy of "non-oceanview" room (the pictures of my husband are in the pool of non-ocean view room, you can still see the ocean, but there are some trees there😉).

I recommend arranging a rental bike before your arrival at LEEYA Bike rental and paying her to deliver your bags to the hotel. It is cheaper than getting a taxi to the hotel and renting a bike later. Taxi cost 300 baht per 2 people and the bike costs 250-300 per day.

The resort is on a very steep hill, but rooms are large with lots of cupboard space to unpack. We didn't have a swimming pool at our room, but we could use the pool across the road at a sister resort and that was one of the most beautiful places so far on our trip. The food is good and service is great. We were on the best side of the island for wind - the other side had lots of wind, but we didn't have any. The resort is on the main road so can be noisy and we could hear the neighbours on their deck, which was annoying.

We had a great 2 nights at the Hillside Resort. The room was spacious and clean. We had a private pool, jacuzzi, indoor and outdoor showers. The views from the balcony were amazing, we made sure to enjoy the sunrise every morning. The breakfast was great, a buffet with fruits, cereals, pastries, bread, noodles, rice, dumplings, etc. They also offer eggs cooked to your request and pancakes with honey or syrup. The hotel can arrange taxis or scooter rentals to explore the island. A short walk along the road is a Family Shop supermarket that sells alcohol (there is no alcohol in the hotel bar, however there is beer in the minibar). The only problem we had was that one day there were ants on the balcony - be careful they bite!

The views from the balcony were stunning, we made sure to enjoy the sunrise each morning. The breakfast provided was great, buffet style with fruit, cereal, pastries, bread, noodles, rice, dumplings, etc. They also offer eggs cooked to your request and pancakes with honey or syrup. The hotel can arrange taxis or scooter hire for exploring the island. There is a Family Shop supermarket a short walk along the road which sells alcohol (the hotel bar is alcohol free however there are some beers available in the mini bar). The only issue we had were some ants on our balcony one afternoon - be careful they bite!

The family villa was a great space for up to 6 adults. Clean and comfortable with AC and private pool. Amazing views of the ocean from the hillside. Food was reasonable price and was very yummy. Scooters were excellent to get around the island (well priced and always available). There are power lines in front of the resort but are tiny and you forget they are even there because the view is so beautiful.
