Basecamp Tahoe City

I really wanted to like this hotel and have my experience work out, as the location is fantastic and price relatively affordable given how updated the place is.

But the heating system in place is not effective and weirdly placed near the ceiling, which is a huge oversight for a new hotel in a winter destination. And the room itself has no built-in protections against the cold that might make up for it, like good insulation or draft blocking at the door (I find this is an issue with modern renovations that value aesthetic over functionality). Oh, and there's no fridge or microwave??

The heaters at a Super 8 or crappy King's Beach motel are more reliable, and it made for an uncomfortable experience. The room was cold and drafty and the cheap ceiling-mounted electric heater off Amazon made hardly a dent in the room temperature. It was difficult to operate and didn't respond predictably to the remote control. You can deliver on all the amenities you want, including a fun lobby space with bar, but it makes no difference if you can't deliver on the core functions required for a comfortable night in the mountains. Hoping this feedback can improve the stay for future travelers!
