very conflicted review on this one... lovely historic property in good repair - excellent staff with a very nice restaurant in house. also pleasantly surprised to see this old hotel has a lift. but, and there is always a but, the adorable historic charming rooms feature angry German beds. the typical German style bed is made even more uncomfortable at this establishment as they are extremely creaky wooden age and lack of mattress depth padding.

A Nightmare in Disguise: Avoid This Unsafe and Creepy Hotel
I recently had the unfortunate experience of booking a stay at what can only be described as a nightmare in the form of a hotel. This establishment, left me feeling unsafe, disgusted, and eager to escape within an hour of checking in. Allow me to share the details of this disastrous encounter.
First and foremost, the lack of basic safety measures was alarming. To my disbelief, this hotel had no elevators, forcing guests to climb up treacherous flights of stairs. These stairs were in such a deplorable state that I feared they might crumble beneath my feet at any moment. It was clear that maintenance was not a priority here.
The overall cleanliness of the hotel was equally appalling. The hallways were dimly lit, creating an eerie atmosphere that made me question my decision to stay there. The carpets were stained and sticky, showcasing a complete disregard for hygiene. The room itself was no better; the bedding appeared to have not been changed, and the bathroom was in dire need of a thorough cleaning.
The staff's attitude only added to the nightmarish experience. From the moment I walked through the door, I was met with indifference and rudeness. It seemed as though the concept of hospitality was foreign to the employees. Our inquiries and concerns were met with dismissive responses, leaving us feeling ignored and unimportant.
As the minutes ticked by, I realized that this hotel was not a place I could endure for even a single night. The combination of the unsafe stairs, the unclean environment, and the deplorable attitude of the staff proved to be too much. I promptly retrieved my belongings and left within an hour, deciding that any alternative would be preferable to remaining in such a dreadful place.
The minimum the staff could do is to offer refund when asked for a refund or seeing us leave, however she didn't care at all. I have already raised this with hotels team and will strongly fight for a refund.
In conclusion, I strongly urge potential guests to steer clear of this unsafe, dirty, and creepy hotel. The lack of elevators, the unsafe stairs, and the rude staff create an environment that is far from welcoming. Save yourself the trouble, discomfort, and potential danger by seeking accommodations elsewhere. Trust me, you'll thank me later.

Dont stay here. Shockingly rude anti service.
We arranged this hotel for my mother in law. Her train was delayed til after ten. We called the hotel to let them know. Leia "the managers daughter," who answered the phone, was rude and unwilling to help.
She said three times that helping my 70 year old mother in law get into her room was " was not her problem" and that "she cannot check in to the room even if her train is late." Grandma's tough luck.
We asked for help to find a way, she laughed and, again, Leia said it was our tough luck and, "what did we expect her to do, do something to help?" We asked to speak to the manager, Leia refused. She then explained that "the manager was her mother, so it would not matter" if we complained.
She again confirmed she had no desire or obligation to help the customer get in after ten. "Not even in an emergency." She noted that this was "not a hospitality business" and that "helping a guest was not her problem."
Leia noted that no one manned the front desk, for security or emergency puproses between 2000 and 0600, creating serious safety and security concerns.
In short, the worst and rudest customer service I have experienced at a hotel in twenty years of extensive traveling all over the world. This would include numerous hotels in rougher places; central american hostels without hot water, tent camping on air mats in the desert, etc. I have always found management of hotels, pensiones, hostels, etc., even in truly tough places, eager to help when circumstances changed like this. Not this time or this place and, without explanation or apology, just literally saying "tough luck."
Shocking anti-hospitality from Leia.
Happy to talk to the manager if they read this; they have our contact details from the cancelled reservation.
Update, 16October: Finally, after a lengthy credit card dispute, I was able to get back the money we had paid for the reservation that turned out to be not a reservation at all. Don't stay here. Again, I would be happy to talk to prospective guests or the management if they feel the desire to address any of my concerns.

BE WARNED! DON'T GO TO Alte Thorschenke hotel!
Frankly, I don't want to waste any more time on this monstrosity what they call a hotel, but I feel obliged to my fellow travelers to leave this message.
- The staff was rude and seemed annoyed when I came to check-in. It took 20 minutes, which was mostly her chatting with a colleague while I just stood there. She explained to me that my room was a 10 minutes walk away but the breakfast was here, all in german which I can speak only a little bit. She did not speak English.
- the rooms are dank and filthy with loud traffic during the night.
- I normally don't mind the mosquitoes because they get in anyways, but there where also moths and small bugs.
- the cord on one of the lamps is broken behind the bed [MAJOR FIRE HAZARD!]
- there are filthy spots on the carpet and walls, also the information book had either a wipe of blood or tomatosauce on one page.
- the orange light on the tv can't be turned of, since it is build into the wall. It shines very bright during the night so I had to block it using my only towel (which I had to use for 2 days btw).
- breakfast was blant and very basic, hardly anything like the picture. There were about 30 people and half the trays needed to be refilled. The food was covered in fruit flies. We talked to another group that stayed there for longer, and they warned us to steer clear on some of the toppings (cold cuts), some of they were ill due to the food from the day before.
- the check-out was just me handing over our room pass. She said "okay", WHAT THE HELL!!! Not even thank you, or have a nice day, or how was your stay?
Horrible!

Not sure what is in the water in Cochem but this place deserves zero stars. On arrival was explained that our rooms were in an Annex not at the main hotel. No problem, then told that neither the annex nor the hotel have parking and we would need to park at a park house. Ok not ideal but i’ll manage. walk half a kilometer down the road with luggage and then have 4 flights of stairs (no lift) to negotiate!! Get to the room all you smell is feces! Staff was absolutely horrible!! I tried to explain to manager Olga about the problem she told the smell was my imagination. I am telling you run don’t walk from this place. Sleep in a van down by the river before you stay here!

You’re going to feel bad for spending your money on this so called “hotel”. With a little bit of work, this could be successfully turned into a medieval museum.
First of all no ac in the middle of the summer, hence it will be better to visit them in winter since they have some heaters from our ancestors times.
Vintage style is amazing, however l not expect vintage conditions for the money l pay.
Last but not least, this hotel is only suitable for people who go to the gym regularly. Forget about climbing your great grand mother’s wooden stairs with heavy luggages if you’re not in shape.
I hope you can all save your $$$ and look for other options out there (there are many camping sites around, so l’m pretty sure that’s a better choice than Alte Thorschenke Museum).

The room is a bit old. The food at the in-house Restaurant was very good. There is a rich Breakfast. The Service is courteous.
