The hotel is in the Harz mountains National Park and close to the former East/West border. Entrance is via a code you have to call the number on the front door to obtain. No reception. You only meet any staff at breakfast. Breakfast is good. The room was ok if a bit dated. The shower worked on the first night but the second night I could only get scalding hot water no matter how I tried to adjust the thermostat. Luckily there were showers in the sauna room. No provision for any meals other than breakfast. I would suggest eating well during the day before returning to the hotel as there didn’t appear to be anywhere local within walking distance and no information in English.

Nobody was in reception when I arrived the at night. I needed ask help with a sir there that contacted by phone the hotel manager and they unlocked an emergency key room. Today, it was the same case to may check-out where nobody was at the reception to receive the key. The room quality is good and big. The problem of this hotel is the terrible assistance. Also, they will take money for you pay the towel. If it’s necessary to pay, the information should be included on *******. I do not recommend it!

Good hotel, great breakfast buffet, friendly staff! Rooms could be slightly larger.
Parking space is ample , a supermarket is closed-by!
I've to say I though Schierke is technically a part of Wernigerode, it is a 20-30 min drive away from Wernigerode-proper, where the main focus of my stay is.
If you don't mind driving to Wernigerode, this is a perfect hotel, and you can start hiking tours directly in Schierke.
Parking space is ample , a supermarket is closed-by!

Room was a little dated but very comfortable, as was the bed, breakfast was very enjoyable with a good selection, Hotel was clean and tidy no complaints there.

Broke the first law of hospitality. Promised to store our luggage the next day when I asked reception before checking in (and settling my bill), an option also mentioned in the brochure in our room. Refused to do so however the next morning with some incomprehensible excuse.
At least another half a dozen cyclist were duped that day by the same broken promise. We all planned to cycle up the Brocken before lunch, picking up our panniers on the way down. Had to take that extra weight the full distance.
Cyclists & hikers should NOT BOOK this hotel; there is ample alternative accommodation in Schierke, if you want to scale the Brocken.
