Hotel Dünenburg in Westerland

Apart from the fact that the room was clean there is nothig else resembling a 4 star hotel. Rooms are dated and the interior is kitschy. Even though the receptionist at the check in was friendly, the other one made a very arrogant and unhelpful impression.

An honest review:
Positive: The room was clean, the minibar was well-stocked, the mattresses seemed quite new and high-quality, and the breakfast was really nice, although if you arrive a little late, it does look rather empty.

Converse: Before you even attempt to enter the hotel (since the doors are always locked), you're greeted by the first sign telling you not to do anything (do not let anyone else into the hotel without a key), and there's another one from the hotel in the breakfast room (food may only be consumed in the breakfast room and not taken away). It makes you feel like a toddler, and is that what you'd expect in a supposedly 4-star hotel?
Aside from the fact that the reception staff weren't exactly friendly to us, the entrance area unfortunately often has a very strong smell (personal assessment).

The reception isn't always staffed, and it takes quite a while for someone to open the door, as it's always locked.

In our case, it was so long that I had more than enough time to get the phone from the very bottom of my backpack and call my girlfriend, who was in the shower. She then came forward half-naked to open the door for me (there's only one key, after all). Halfway through our trip, the staff came around the corner, quite relaxed, with three flowers in a vase.

Anyone who thinks there's a nice sauna area here is also mistaken.

A small sauna and a few loungers in the anteroom (extra charge per use: €5). If you like it cramped.

Don't even bother using the tissues in the toilet, as they'll tear when you pull them out.

The location to the beach is great, and the shopping mall is right around the corner.

I wouldn't recommend Westerland per se, though.

I really don't have high standards and I don't usually travel that way, but for €260 a night, I honestly expect something different.
