Hotel Kaktus Playa

This hotel was wonderful. This brand me & my wife stayed in last year so had a good discount for booking again. The hotel was very Scandinavian overall which was very refreshing compared to many Barcelona hotels we have stayed at previously.
The rooms were very airy and the way they were all accessible was very refreshing. WC lights came on automatically plus the curtains, both normal and blackout were automatically operated, a new way to interact with a bedroom and very good means to do this.

The staff were all so helpful!

Our flight had got delayed and we ended up at the hotel at 4:30am. As soon as we got in , we were able to check in quickly, the receptionist were very helpful and clearly understood that we were very tired! We went up to our room on the fourth floor (they had lifts thankfully), the light had came on as we were walking through the hallway.

The room was very clean and neat, big enough for what we need. They have plug socket either side of the bed ink using USB ports. They didn’t have a door on the bathroom, but was sectioned off by the toilet and shower. They had a nice rainfall shower (walk in), their water pressure is incredible.

We then went down for breakfast buffet from the hotel. They had a nice coffee machine using pods. Had a variety of food such as a full English, salad, cereal and pastries. They also had chiefs making fresh omelettes. Compared to the many hotel I have been to, they by far have the better breakfast I’ve had!

By the restaurant, they had the pool. The pool was lovely, the deeper part of the pool was about 1.8m which was lovely to find a pool that is actually deep enough. They also had a hot tub/jacuzzi overlooking the pool surrounded by flowers, was a Very nice touch.

We have then decided to try the spa at the hotel, it was €10 per person for an hour, however well worth it. Their hot tub was much more powerful, also included a steam room and a sauna.

All the staff member were so lovely and helpful. We can see that they have tried their best to make us comfortable and have always smiled at us.

Hotel was close to the beach, literally about 5 min walk. There is a street full of shops and bars and food places about the same distance. About 15min walk to the train station to go to Blaines and Barcelona.

A couple not so positive points:

The rooms were not so soundproof. We can hear people chatting next door. And we had forgot to turn off our work alarms, the neighbours obviously could hear it and banged on the wall (sorry!) The rooms had both light and black out blinds that were automatic, which was great. But we could hear it when the neighbours draws them.

There wasn’t much a view. However we were aware that we could upgrade, for us it wasn’t that big of a deal, so we had left it.

Nice hotel, clean with attention to detail. I expected slightly more... If it was a 4 star hotel, I would say it was excellent. The rooms have a nice touch with an odd twist on the bathroom.... The view is not desirable.... facing an apartment complex far from being upkept with unpleasant items displayed in balconies alongside drying clothes. As of summer 2024 a ruin building did not appeal... Yet, from my room, with the right angle, I had an ocean view!

We had a lovely stay after upgrading to seaview room, staff were polite and friendly, room really suited our taste and we slept well but as others have commented, this is not 5 star. We didn't like the built up back of buildings outlook from the pool view room. In the end, it cost us about £180 per night, including breakfast, which is quite pricey when they then tried to charge for coffee for the in room coffee machine. The choice at breakfast was good, but the hotel caters for coach tours so the canteen style restaurant could look like a bombsite with dirty plates if you arrived after a coach party had left. The pool area was small, busy and needed some tlc but still nice. Our toilet needed to be fixed, and the room didn't get cleaned until late afternoon. We just got the feeling that standards may have slipped slightly, and costs have been cut to accommodate the lower rates, which are probably being charged to the coach companies. I think the hotel could consider offering a slightly higher level of service for people who have paid the full rate. That said, we would return as we loved the view and the room worked well for us.

Rooms were nice especially the shower but didn't like the open style bathroom and the big sliding door which was too heavy and noisy. The patio doors didn't keep out the noise from the side street below with other hotels and pools there. Too noisy which was a shame as the food and staff were exceptional!! Very clean hotel and the style was really nice, just didn't like the room much.

Very decent hotel. Really 4+. Stylish design of the rooms, 4 minutes to the sea. And the breakfasts and dinners are just super, well done! In the morning there is champagne and always a lot of seafood - different!!! The sea view from the balcony is gorgeous!

Thank you for a wonderful vacation! The hotel has been recently renovated, we were pleased with the USB charging sockets and the general thoughtfulness of the room equipment. The food in the restaurant is wonderful - you won’t find anything tastier or more varied in other places in the area. Special thanks to the girls at the reception, who are always ready to help and advise.

Lovely stay! Could not fault this hotel, so clean, modern, rooms are beautiful. Varied breakfast, and some foods cooked fresh in front of you. Really friendly and helpful staff. Cocktails on the rooftop floor with live music was a great touch! Will be back for sure.

Close to train station to get anywhere and not a far walk to essentials. Lovely hotel room and staff. Cocktails are very good and lovely pool area

Very good rooms for the price (80€/night). Clean and good amenities. We came at the beginning of May and the rooftop was still under refurbishment and wifi was not working though.
