Reviews
Spa: Cold Jacuzzi, tepid pool, no cold shower for after Sauna usage (bizarrely, the jacuzzi was the best thing to cool off in), no water tap, no timer or themometer in sauna, both of the showers were dysfunctional in some manner. Add to this that it costs an extra £10 per hour and it's just not worth it.
Food: Dinner on the first day was abysmal, lacked flavour, everything was wet and nothing had a crisp to it, and they seem to use all cheapest cuts of meat. It was somewhat better on the other two nights we stayed, but i also just think we knew what to avoid. Breakfast was... okay, again just stick to the stuff that you can't go too wrong with. For the cost of including breakfast and dinner though I'd say it's not worth it. We went out for a meal in Callela and it was 10x better.
Lovely rooftop area: Costs an extra £20 per day to access these areas, so don't expect the lovely picturesque photos on their photo reel unless you're willing to pay that. Add to this that the outdoor jacuzzi available to everyone (not in the spa) was ALSO COLD, and you're kind of forced to be extorted into spending more.
We really enjoyed our stay as it was mainly to switch off and do very very little, and the staff were really great, the room was really nice (only issue was slightly dusty), but we would recommend looking at a different hotel. This felt more like a 3 star than a 5 star, and if we cared more about it i feel like we would've been quite frustrated.
Downsides:
-It looks and feels more like a 4 star hotel
-First impressions of the room were it wasnt like a 5 star hotel room- more like 3.5/4 stars maybe
-It's 10 Euros extra per day to use the spa area for only an hour & 20 Euro more for the roof beach bar which was really ridiculous. Both should be free- this wasn't specified when we booked- very misleading. Especially the spa area should be free & not just for 1 hour when it's colder weather. Beach bar should be free as some people dont have ocean views from their rooms and it's only visible from the roof bar area
- You can hear the people in next room loudly even just talking- rooms need soundproofing
-Not enough water provided in room, no normal 5 star hotel extras like slippers, gowns, welcome biscuits/ snacks
- Lack of privacy on balcony from other rooms, screens don't cover enough
- 9 Euros extra for room service which is way too much- this was one of the biggest downsides for me- it should be free or much lower price as prices of food can also be high and if you want something small like water which isn't provided after the forst night- the service charge is more than the actual food which is ridiculous- especially after a long day of being a tourist and wanting to just relax in the room and eat/ drink something.
- The hotel is small. I don't think it looks like a 5 star hotel either, more like a 4 star.
-No instruction leaflet regarding room service, staff reception number or any other helpful information provided in the room
-the elderly large woman with short hair at the cafeteria reception is Super Rude- Super Insecure, unprofessional, completely Lacking in Healthy Boundaries, harrassing, overly loud and Primitive- she should be fired. She said very Jealous negative things about me to the other staff there (Clearly stemming from her own insecurities), I felt very harrassed. I'm a young pretty woman and a Model and this elderley woman seemed super Jelaous of and obsessed with me- she even knew my room number off by heart which was frankly Creepy. I would have made a formal complaint about her but didn't have the time. You don't expect that kind of weird and Harrassing behaviour from a 5 star hotel, please fire that woman- that person is the reason I'm rating the hotel 1 stars.
If these things were amended and updated, the hotel would be better.
Firstly the room was beautiful - we had a lovely little balcony which caught the sun mid-afternoon onwards (for when we were at the hotel) the room was nice and spacious for the two of us with lots of storage and wardrobe space. Toilet and shower were great and worked fine. We had plenty of towels.
Secondly the staff were brilliant - from the staff at reception to the house keeping staff. The room was cleaned daily with fresh sheets and towels (if required). The AC was great and kept the room cool which was a blessing on the hot days!
We booked the spa for one hour - was a little disappointed. It felt out dated and needed a little bit of TLC but it did the job - there was a steam room, sauna, hydro showers, square pool and hot tub. We used the sauna and that was lovely. The pool was good for having a wee swim about. The hot tub was a let down - the water was a cool temperature with a few bubble jets on (not sure if the other jets were broke/not turned on or those were the only jets).
We also booked the roof top terrace - it was lovely and peaceful - it had rained in the morning so there wasn't a lot of people by the time we went up. We didn't realise the bar up there closed around 5pm. The infinity pool was nice and we got some great views from up there.
I thought there would be entertainment on (especially as we were there over the weekend) but the only time we heard music/singing was Sunday night. There was also a large bar area which was always closed apart from the Sunday night. We never ate or drank at the restaurant just because we wanted to get out and about as much as possible - but we would have enjoyed some evening entertainment (maybe there was some on and we missed it? we normally got back between 10pm - 11pm).
Would recommend Kaktus Playa :)
The rooms were very airy and the way they were all accessible was very refreshing. WC lights came on automatically plus the curtains, both normal and blackout were automatically operated, a new way to interact with a bedroom and very good means to do this.
Our flight had got delayed and we ended up at the hotel at 4:30am. As soon as we got in , we were able to check in quickly, the receptionist were very helpful and clearly understood that we were very tired! We went up to our room on the fourth floor (they had lifts thankfully), the light had came on as we were walking through the hallway.
The room was very clean and neat, big enough for what we need. They have plug socket either side of the bed ink using USB ports. They didn’t have a door on the bathroom, but was sectioned off by the toilet and shower. They had a nice rainfall shower (walk in), their water pressure is incredible.
We then went down for breakfast buffet from the hotel. They had a nice coffee machine using pods. Had a variety of food such as a full English, salad, cereal and pastries. They also had chiefs making fresh omelettes. Compared to the many hotel I have been to, they by far have the better breakfast I’ve had!
By the restaurant, they had the pool. The pool was lovely, the deeper part of the pool was about 1.8m which was lovely to find a pool that is actually deep enough. They also had a hot tub/jacuzzi overlooking the pool surrounded by flowers, was a Very nice touch.
We have then decided to try the spa at the hotel, it was €10 per person for an hour, however well worth it. Their hot tub was much more powerful, also included a steam room and a sauna.
All the staff member were so lovely and helpful. We can see that they have tried their best to make us comfortable and have always smiled at us.
Hotel was close to the beach, literally about 5 min walk. There is a street full of shops and bars and food places about the same distance. About 15min walk to the train station to go to Blaines and Barcelona.
A couple not so positive points:
The rooms were not so soundproof. We can hear people chatting next door. And we had forgot to turn off our work alarms, the neighbours obviously could hear it and banged on the wall (sorry!) The rooms had both light and black out blinds that were automatic, which was great. But we could hear it when the neighbours draws them.
There wasn’t much a view. However we were aware that we could upgrade, for us it wasn’t that big of a deal, so we had left it.
