Hotel Volga

We chose last minute to travel to Calella. We experienced the hotel as average.
Plus points: mattress was good, very clean rooms, lots of choice in terms of breakfast and an ideal location for going out. The receptionist did her job very well, she helped us with all our questions and the luggage room was also a big plus.

Cons: monotonous buffet, food was actually already cold when we sat down and the shellfish were no longer fresh also I found a fingernail among the kiwis, so this is a work point.
the staff at the breakfast room just walked around with long teeth, quite a shame, a smile could do a lot.

The location: you do not have a nice view, is located on a busy train track, keep this in mind, we were away every time and found the proximity of the train connection a good point, in an hour we were in Barcelona. The beaches in Calella were very clean and quieter though, so definitely worth a visit. We came up a day short with our day trip to Barcelona so 5 days was ideal.

In short if you are looking for a budget friendly hotel with the necessary basics and a good location then hotel Volga is ideal. If you also want to spend a day strolling by the pool and wellness then I would rather recommend another hotel because the pool is very small but clean.

We had a disappointing stay at the Hotel Volga. Considering it is rated 4 stars, it has none of the facilities or touches you would expect of a 4 star. The staff on reception were cold, unfriendly and unhelpful. The bar staff were lovely though. The rooms themselves were resourced with the bare minimum- no kettle or tea/ coffee making facilities, no extra touches in the bathroom. For example, the soaps in the dispensers were horrible- no creams or anything like that. However the air con was good.
During our stay, we left for an overnight stay in Barcelona and stayed at a wonderful 4 star hotel which was the polar opposite to Volga. We returned to a room which was still uncleaned and used glasses which we’d stacked to be taken down were just left there, the floor wasn’t swept. The pool is small and the same people would put their towels down on the beds every morning and hog the beds all day. Sometimes disappearing for hours. Staff did nothing to monitor this. There was no entertainment. The location itself is great and I think the hotel rides on that and therefore makes minimal effort for its guests. You felt like you were putting the reception out if you asked for toilet roll . My friend was told she’d have to get it for herself from reception.

Great location for beach access and has small pool too. Not really needed as very close to the beach. Lots of free sweets around reception great for small snack. Had room overlooking the beach/rail track which is inevitable, you can't escape the railtrack to be honest. Friendly staff even on my return after midnight who happily served us drinks. Wonderful shower and quiet room.
