We booked The Wild Hotel as a last minute getaway this October. After arriving from Athens to Mykonos, we had high hopes for what was rated a 5 star boutique hotel on the island. The day before we were informed the driver would collect us from the airport arrivals - we waited for some time before calling the hotel to confirm he was still coming, which to which we were informed he was already there but not in the place we were told he would be. We managed to find him and sure enough he was a very friendly local who told us about the island.
We arrived at the hotel and the location is spectacular, a short 15 minute drive from the airport, on the south coast of the island. With views out over the sea, perched on top of a rocky outcrop, with its own private beach - it is beautiful. It lived up to the pictures. It’s clear that a lot of effort and attention has gone into the interior design, a rustic yet modern approach made it feel very luxurious.

What let us down was the general lacklustre welcome we received from some of the staff. Just above the minimum was done to give us an overview of what to expect from the hotel: when breakfast was, the Wi-Fi code and where our room was.
We were not shown how to access the beach, where changing rooms were or that there was a gym - we had to figure that out ourselves. No hotel information booklet in the rooms. Luckily there was a price list of spa treatments available so we thought we’d treat ourselves and book ourselves in, which was lovely, however again had to ask where the spa was - as they didn’t think of mentioning that when we booked.

The real dissatisfaction in service came when we wanted to book into their restaurant, Raw. We saw it on their website and it looked great. Very excited to try it, however when we asked to book we were told it had closed for the season. Nothing about this was mentioned on the website or when we booked the room. Bearing in mind the hotel was still open. We were confused, so we asked another staff member later that day about it and they said it opened at 6:30pm - so we tried again only to be told it was definitely closed. A big miscommunication between staff as some had different ideas on whether the restaurant was open or not.
So we ate at the taverna twice. Which was good, despite the high prices for relatively average food. We’re big on our wine and wanted to try some Greek wine. The waiter gave us the full list, we chose one to which we were told they were out of. So we chose another. Out of that one too. Infact they were out of all red wines by the bottle expect for two options. Why not just print a reduced menu?
I get that it was the end of the season and they were running the stock down, but it just felt that they were cutting corners. The waiter seemed like he didn’t want to be there. In fact that was the general feel of most of the staff there, that they didn’t want to be there and it was the end of the season. There were a couple of friendly staff members but I wouldn’t describe any service as being top tier or 5 star.

On top of this the door to our room did not close properly - it locked from the inside but not outside. It could be opened just by pushing it. A security risk there.
The shower was a bit tired and could have done with a freshen up.

There were some highlights for sure, the breakfast was delicious and had plenty of options, pancakes were amazing and it all seemed very fresh. The private beach is stunning and well kept. The decor and lighting made for an atmospheric space (although music could do some more thought). The rooms were comfortable and felt luxurious.

Disappointed to say this place is far from 5 Stars…
I booked this place for my honeymoon and from the moment we arrived we were “greeted” by rude reception staff… just to name a few things to don’t reflect a 5 star $700AUD per night hotel
- Reception tried to make us pay for the transfer that had confirmed via email and booking confirmation that it was included. She tried to challenge me on this until I showed her the email but no apology for her argument.
- Reception tried to make us pay for 4 nights accommodation upon check out despite us paying this in advance months ago. Again - did not check this before giving us the bill and waiting for us to question it. Probably in hope we would just pay it.
- Reception staff were rude and never greeted when walking through
- There was a gate code but were never told this - after calling the incom a few times, finally it was answered and we were rudely told “IT IS 4545” then hung up.
- Room smelt like sewerage and the bathroom is in the bedroom
- Breakfast is very average and you have to pay extra for a proper breakfast
- No help getting bags down stairs and to the driveway - called multiple times and no answer. When we mentioned this upon check out she got defensive.

Despite all this - the beach, view, pool and lunch/dinner is beautiful. The staff by the beach were amazing but the front desk really let down the experience. I would be interested to know what makes this place 5 stars as it definitely was not 5 star service.
I would recommend spending your money elsewhere and closer to the main town unless you want to rent a car.
Also be cautious if you rent a quad for one day they want to do a 800€ ($1500 AUD) hold on your credit card - we didn’t know this and decided not to proceed as the funds would of taken over a week to come back. (Not a fault of the hotels but would’ve been nice to be informed this by the hotel staff who work with this company and should’ve mentioned this when they said there were not further costs than the 85 Euro)
