Ceiling Collapse

I stayed at the Tinion Hotel starting January 28, 2020. Shortly after I went to bed (Room 19), a large section of the ceiling collapsed onto one of the beds in the room. The only reason I was not killed is that I picked a different bed in the room, by chance. The sound of the ceiling crashing down was so intense that the entire hotel came out to see what happened. Following the incident, I moved to share a room with a friend of mine who was also at the hotel. I suppose it’s worth mentioning that during this time of year there were very few hotel options available — which is why changing hotels was not a feasible option. You would think based on everything that happened, the owner would have followed up or expressed some concern towards me. There was no follow up. He never apologized. Not once did he ask how I was doing in the days that followed. And upon checkout, while he didn’t charge me for my room (…since I didn’t stay there), he did make sure to increase the rate on my friend’s room from a “single” rate, to a higher “double occupancy” rate. You can only imagine my shock and terror following the incident.

Ultimately I’m writing this review because the owner failed to act in even a half decent manner throughout this incident. He never took responsibility for what happened. And his dismissive comments made clear he wasn’t fully aware of the quality of some work that was done at his hotel. This review should act as a warning to other travelers that a potentially deadly safety incident happened at the Tinion Hotel, and to make others aware of the careless and ungracious behavior of the owner. It is inexcusable.

Beds are the worst quality you can find. Annoying for this kind of hotel. Its like $20 mattresses. Breakfast is good though.
