Szidónia Castle Mini-hotel

We were here for a conference in late February.
Some of the attendees were on a vegan/vegetarian diet and hardly 90% of the vegan dishes were based on cellery. So in case your team has plenty of people with food restrictions I would NOT recommend to go here.
We paid approx 20€ per dish/per person and sometimes it was just a tiny salad and most of the dishes would contain cellery. There are other vegetables as well you know? After 3 days of getting only cellery for lunch and dinner I was so fed up honestly. At the same time the „normal“ (as they called it) NON-Vegetarian dishes ALWAYS contained meat – like what the heck, can’t there be just a single vegetarian dish in the „normal“ food plan? Very weird.
Also I was never full after the lunch/dinners because the vegetarian dishes would be sooo small in portion size and as I mentioned often just consisted of salad or other veggies and no proper source of protein. I posted some of the pictures I took of the dishes.

The rooms were clean but spartanic (we were not in the main building but in one of the side buildings so maybe it looks nicer in the main tract). They have a Wellness area which we didn’t use but it looked nice and the Hotel area is huge and also very pretty.

The village where this hotel is located is very isolated but you can take a trip to Esterhazy Castle (approx 20 min drive). But let’s say: if you don’t have a car you will be stuck there. There is nothing in close proximity.

Overall it was okay to stay here for a conference but this Hotel really has to work on their menu and especially on the vegetable-selection they offer. Cellery two times per day for 3 days straight is just pure torture as well as not getting enough food.

The rooms are pretty big and clean and even though it is an old buiding it is very warm inside. I do not think it is really suitable for a conference or work meeting as we had, the chairs are really incomfortable to sit on the hole day and the projector setup is not ideal. The food at lunch and dinner was a big disappoinment, breakfast was ok. Unfortunately, I did not have time to use the spa and the tennis fields were close because it was winter. Not much to see around.

It would be a beautiful and amazing castle hotel, highly exclusive! But needs serious care and maintenance. The garden and lake area is very uncared for. Sunbeds have bird poo on them. The inner garden has lots of weeds between the rose bushes and others, bushes are not cut properly, the grass is not well-maintained. The inside of the hotel needs renovation, the once white doors are yellowish and old looking. However, there was a pandemic, so I assume once they get back on their feet, this castle hotel can be one of the most wonderful ones. Fingers crossed!
