Reviews
We stayed at Tombolo talasso for a week and we're disappointed in many aspects, especially after spending 4 days at Adler Spa which is another 5 stars hotel, in the same price range, in the same region, and is much better.
First thing to know, Tombolo talasso allows dogs, which means you can expect to heard dogs barking at any time. We were waken up by a dog barking at 6:30am three mornings in a raw. People can be really disrespectful.
Then, the rooms are not great. Small bathroom with the toilets inside, you can barely get in the bathtub to take a shower (yes it's not a real shower). We had booked a very expensive junior suite for our 10 years wedding anniversary, with our daughter, and there wasn't even a separation between our bed and our daughter 's bed.
The air conditioning is bad, it's impossible to put the right temperature as the control panel does not display anything. Plus there were drops dropping from the ceiling, which we mentioned at the beginning of our stay but was never fixed.
The cleanliness of the room was not great when we checked in, especially the floor where we could feel some sand.
The service is uneven, sometimes good, sometimes very slow, waiters often forget things we order and we have to ask several times.
The food at the beach restaurant is really bad while being expensive. Better go eat in a restaurant in the street near the sea for lunch.
When we checked in the hotel, nobody proposed us a beverage or anything, not even water. Even though we booked half board, we still had to pay 4€ every evening for a simple bottle of water (of course there's no tap water in the restaurant).
Many times we could not have seats to lay down at the swimming pool. It's unbelievable that in a 5 stars hotel and for the price paid there's not even enough seats near the swimming pool for the guests. And the seats are not so great, it's hard to find the shadow. In the other hotel Adler Spa, they had special seats that can be easily turned to always be under the shadow, but not here.
After a day, we got a survey to give our first impressions on the hotel. We mentioned some of these things, especially the room which was very disappointing, and someone from the hotel proposed to meet to discuss. So I met with Giulia, who said she would try to find us another room with a real shower and a separation between the beds the next day. The next day, she said it's not possible today, maybe tomorrow. The next day, she said it won't be possible. She said there was another better room available but we had to pay more. She asked if she could do something more but she did not suggest anything by herself, not even the smallest gesture. She said she remained available for anything. So after 2 days being awaken at 6:30am by the dog barking near our room, I came to see her to see if she could do anything, but she did not do anything and the next morning we were awaken one more time at 6:30 by the dog barking in some room near ours.
Despite all this, there are some good things. The food in the evening is delicious, the private beach is great, the spa area with all the jacuzzis is really nice. The 2 women taking care of the kids at the mini club are great, our daughter had a great time there.
Overall, we don't recommend this hotel. For half the price I'd give 5/5 but unfortunately it's extremely expensive for what it is.
For the same price and also in Tuscany , we recommend the Adler Spa resort.
I can honestly say having been privileged to have travel to different parts of the world and stay in 5 star hotels ,I do appreciate all hotels can vary in their level of 5 star but ,I am absolutely flabbergasted to know how this hotel ever achieved a 5 star rating !
Having read previous posts and can agree 100% on the rooms being very basic in furnishings , Sky and normal TV only with Italian channels no English news channels, a mini bar with water ,water and more water oh and fruit juice, no sign of alcohol or milk ,a kettle straight out of the local pound shop that I could only plug in under the TV cabinet on the floor with a four inch lead on .
We decided to book a table in their incredibly overpriced restaurant only to find we were offered tables outside ,that were no more than picnic chairs in what seemed to be a very poorly lite carport ,we were not the only ones complaining. The hotel manager floated around as though he was on a catwalk and clearly has not realised his restaurant is only 25% full yet the restaurants in the town were fully booked with excellent local food and sensibly priced .
The hotel had a pianist playing in the up stairs balcony which was beautiful setting but the bar was not open which meant nobody was there to appreciate their performance yet in the lobby downstairs where the bar was it was totally void of any atmosphere!!!
On the plus side I feel the Spa and treatment staff and facilities were out of this world and deserve an award of excellence.
Sadly won’t be returning to this hotel again.
The real star (besides the staff) is the Spa. I opted for the Thalassotherapy Path in the Caves which was out of this world. Equipped with 5 different pools and hydrotherapies - all with water coming straight from the nearby sea! I cannot say enough about this. I had been suffering from some health issues and had read about certain water therapies helping. The cavernous spa was absolutely stunning. It felt as if I stepped into another universe. But the water itself and the order of the baths and pressures of each were geniunely healing and therapeutic.
I also treated myself to an Ayurvedic Massage by Annalisa. One of the most transforming massages I've had - mind, body, and soul. Grazie mille Annalisa! Sei FANTASTICA.
Do yourself a favor and book a treatment for the day - or an overnight stay at Tombolo Talasso Resort. What a wonderful experience. I can't wait to get back there hopefully soon!
