Hotel Hermitage in Portoferraio

The hotel is in a great location and has an excellent private, sandy beach.

Rooms are very clean and spacious and the staff are very friendly and helpful.

We really liked this hotel and we looked at all the luxury hotels on Elba and this was the best. Our room (166) was a bit of a hike but sweeping views of the Med (as most rooms), patio and very comfortable. Great pools, nice beach and superb overall facility. Staff was excellent. We dined every evening at the pool restaurant, casual but upscale. The pasta dishes were fantastic and the waiters very nice and attentive despite a fairly full restaurant. The view, setting and food made it uniquely memorable. While the rooms might feel a tad dated, they really are very nice, and stylistically consistent with the hotel’s Elba-Mediterranean architecture. Far more impressive than the other luxury hotels on the Island. This one is yor best upscale hotel on Elba.

When we first visited this hotel, many years ago, we met a guest who said it was his 10th visit. Being youngish and with no children, we wondered why return somewhere multiple times, rather than going to new places? Well, this year was probably our tenth visit and certainly not our last and our son loves it. It is a fabulous hotel. There is something about the Italian/Tuscan charm that captures you. The staff are all lovely, and we see the same faces again and again both among staff and guests. Dinner is superb, with seemless and charming service - and kids food arrives quickly which is so important when they are tired. The wine list caters for all price ranges, with lovely reasonable local wines as well as anything a connoisseur might want. We were here during two days of very heavy evening storms. Dining was in the inside restaurant on two nights and we were very impressed at how they had set up and moved the whole operation during the day - lots of hard work behind the scenes. The storm caused some temporary power cuts and on the first night my son and I were larking around slumped in a pretend Agatha Christie type ****** at the table when the lights went back up, but sadly no one quite got the joke. On the second night they had anticipated power cuts and put candles on all the tables - showing how much attention goes into getting it right. We had a bath plug leak issue and my wife asked me to let reception know. I was heading towards the phone when I saw at the door two maintenance men knocking, one holding a spanner and smiling. “That astonishing service” I thought, given I had not actually called yet and wondering if the room was bugged. Turned out they had come to the wrong room, but in any event stayed and quickly replaced the plug with a new one. A mention also for the maid who meticulously cleaned the room twice a day but sadly I realised when we left I did not know her name.

Only our 17th visit so possibly we have gone native but it remains the week of pure joy in the year. Fabulous food, charming staff, stunning location and the Saturday BBQ always a highlight, even if we missed Ferragosto this year. Not a huge fan of fried egg innovation at breakfast - these are simply better cooked to order. And the dinner dessert buffet is poorer without a large bowl of home made tiramisu. But if is a glorious week in a bubble of indulgent family happiness.

We have had another unforgettable stay here at the Hermitage. It was really wonderful to see all the fantastic staff again. Leonardo, Paulo, Gigi, Mikele thank you so much your service in the restaurant! Liam, Fabio, Alessia, Andreas thank you for your fantastic cocktails! Maya our 4 year old daughter had the most fantastic time at the Mini Club she loved taking part in the mini show and learning to swim like a mermaid. Fabio, Georgia, Alexa, Ade thank you for looking after Maya! Sabria on reception thank you for your help with our reservation and for organising the beautiful birthday surprise for my partner it was really special for him. We were lucky enough to celebrate the big party on Saturday night and it as brilliant so much fun with a fantastic band! We have thoroughly enjoyed the extensive menu and wine list the food was excellent and caters for everyone! The stunning view from the restaurant is captivating and you can just sit for hours watching the sunset. It really is a magical place with magical people. Elba is absolutely beautiful. We love it so much we will be returning next year. See you in 2026!

Hermitage is a hidden gem in Elba with great tennis, golf and beach with good service. The food is also good. If you are expecting a professional boat rental and water sports centre you will be disappointed as that is far below what you can expect from a 5-star beach resort.

We have only been here 2 days but I had to write a review before we have even left. I’ve fallen in love with this hotel and the island. It’s stunning it’s like a small village. 3 pools, 3 restaurants swim up bar. The staff are super helpful and can’t do enough for you. The views are breathtakingly beautiful. We have been so well looked after by Fabio, Liam and Tytsana at the pool bar. The restaurant staff in the evening never leave you left waiting even when it’s busy. It’s a beautifully relaxing place with stunning grounds, tennis courts, spa, mini club for the older children I feel ( I wish they had a kids club for the younger ones) I can’t find any faults with this hotel. The rooms are authentic Italian rooms that are so super super clean. Comfy beds and AMAZING bath products. It’s safe to say this place will be on my list of places to come back to next year.

Our family just had the most wonderful time at Hotel Hermitage. The location is incredibly beautiful, and the hotel itself is very well maintained. It is an older property but that just lends to its charm. Many of the staff are older and you get the impression have been there for years. As a result they know exactly what they are doing and we found the service to be exceptional. We arrived to the Saturday night buffet dinner which was a huge hit, our kids are still talking about it as one of the highlights of their holiday! Such a wonderful atmosphere, even though we spoken virtually no Italian, we found the staff very welcoming and happy to speak English. The beach beds/umbrellas are very well attended to, we had lunch on the beach and it was well organised. Breakfasts had a great selection and was of an excellent standard. We used the tennis courts and they were of a great standard, very well maintained. The watersports centre was really convenient, right next to the hotel. Our kids did banana boating, donuting, scuba diving, we hired SUP’s and pedalos. The sea was clean, clear and warm, heaven! The hotel far exceeded our expectations, we got the impression many guests were returning customers and we can understand why. We are already planning a way to fit another visit into our next trip 😊
