We stayed at Sant Angelo in September and what a place it is! Firstly, the hotel is fantastic, the service, the room, the view was fabulous (we had a room with balcony and a view of the city) we just couldn't fault it. The area where you have breakfast is up a couple of flights of stairs in a cave, done beautifully with the option to sit out and enjoy the spectacular view. Matera itself is breathtaking, a gem of Italy, it's like stepping back in time with many restaurants on your doorstep from the hotel, great location overall. The only thing i would mention is booking.com who we booked through did not have the most up-to-date pictures so we didn't get the room we thought we booked, although they might have updated that now, but what we got still ended up being amazing. Don't hesitate to book! :)

Stayed 2 nights ands wish we could have stayed for longer! The hotel is really nice, in a perfect location, the staff are lovely and will do anything to help. Special thanks to Francesco, Miastrela, Miguel and Catrina for making our stay extra special. The view from our terrace was unbelievable! Only dropping 1 star because the room wasn’t a cave room and was a little dated, but otherwise it was great. Thank you.

A night in this cave hotel in the World Heritage-listed city of Matera is a bucket-list experience. It’s right in the heart of the historic centre, where ancient churches and modern restaurants are all carved out of the soft tufa. Ask for a room with a view of the church and enjoy the local fare in the hotel’s cave restaurant. The breakfast buffet is a great experience too.

Fantastic hotel in heart of old town Matera. They arrange car parking and shuttle bus (for a fee) which is convenient. The room was very spacious, quiet and well maintained. Breakfast is buffet only, and you get charged extra for cooked options, which was a shame and thought all should be included in price. Overall, highly recommended and visiting Matera is a must (would recommend two nights)

Wow, everything about this resort was absolutely fantastic!!
The rooms are gorgeous, and very authentic caves. You can feel the history with every step you take!
Reggiacorte restaurant is incredible, we had the best pasta I had so far in Italy! The staff was incredible, especially Malik!
Breakfast is NOT TO BE MISSED!! With a delicious variety of local options and the BEST almond milk cappuccino I ever had , courtesy of the incredibly kind barista Michele😊

Amazing place! Central to everything and beautiful views. The room we had woke us up to beautiful filtered light. And the breakfast was great too. Make sure you ask for a cappuccino from Michela. It was the best Cappuccino we have had in Italy so far.

Perfect place for your continental breakfast. Elegant atmosphere with a breathtaking view. Delicious food at candlelight, Food is prepared by young and committed staff. The pastries are excellent! it is not just breakfast it's a journey in the local culture We will come back 🤩

Our stay at Sant Angelo was a huge disappointment from start to finish. The room we booked was nothing like a 5 stars room as they advertise (pictures of multiple suites to advertise one ), we switched room twice the staff was unhelpful when we raised our concerns and asked if we could cancel the remaining of our stay and get a pro- rated refund so we can move to another hotel .We’ve never had such a bad experience at any hotel.
Despite the hotel’s claim to be five-star, it certainly doesn’t live up to that rating. We ended up leaving earlier than planned, losing money in the process, because the experience was so awful.
While the location in Matera is indeed beautiful, as many reviews highlight, there are plenty of other hotels in the area that offer far better service and value for money. I strongly recommend looking elsewhere for a better experience.
PS : One major issue is the lack of communication transparency and lies. The staff avoided putting anything in writing and preferred calling us to make promises, only to later change their story and have a hostile attitude when they couldn’t fulfill those promises. It’s crucial to get everything in writing if you decide to stay there

Beautiful hotel at a great unbeatable location. Their restaurant RegiaCorte is a must visit. The rooms are spacious, however, they lack the luxury that you would expect at these rates. The washrooms were very basic and the lighting was not adequate. The air conditioning was not very effective, however, that could also be attributable to the heat wave as temperatures were at 41 degrees celsius.

What a beautiful hotel. Views from our room were spectacular. All staff were so kind. Breakfast was amazing. So many choices. Had a fantastic dinner at restaurant our last night. Thank you for a memorable time
