Hotel Astoria

We have just returned from a week staying at the hotel Astoria. The location is perfect, although quite a bit of noise from the hotel next door as they have celebrations. The hotel was spotlessly clean with attention to detail in every aspect.
The hotel staff were very helpful, especially the restaurant staff. The food was very good. The room was very comfortable with wonderful views of the lake. There was one issue with the room, it had an adjoining door and you could hear everything from our neighbours as if they were in our room. I would recommend this hotel, the team take a great pride in keeping standards high.

Hotel Astoria has rooms that feel a bit worn, and any renovations that may have been done appear to have been carried out carelessly. It was unpleasant to find small spiders on the ceiling, and the rooms were not cleaned as thoroughly as they should have been. On the positive side, the hotel offers convenient on-site parking, and the breakfast was tasty. The restaurant is elegant, with beautiful views of the lake from the windows. The location is great, and the staff were friendly and helpful.

Very well furnished and maintained hotel with great location on the water front. We had room with two balconies with mesmerizing view of the lake and the promenade.
However, breakfast menu could be better, dining hours could be extended, the room lacks coffee maker/ water boiler, and iron. TV is small and has limited local channels.

I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hotel Astoria. The location is perfect, directly on the lake with lake views from most of the superior rooms and a pool behind. The service is very friendly and attentive- particular thanks to Adi who fussed kindly over me when I arrived flustered from a long drive from Genoa and took my keys, boys, luggage and dog in hand and had me checked in and settled with my luggage in a cool room to rest in the blink of an eye while he parked my car.

The breakfast is generous and the waiters well trained with old fashioned courtesy (looking at the lake in the morning while your cappuccino is poured by a tuxedoed waiter and your children and father are plied with steaming pitchers of hot chocolate is perfect) and the cleaning crew so thorough, that it’s almost a relief that the rooms are dated as I didn’t then worry about the dog or the children smudging or breaking anything as 1980s furniture is sturdier than the modern ikea junk. The shower was a bit slippery and leaked a bit but that’s true everywhere we stayed in Italy no matter how modern or renovated - put an extra towel down and walk carefully as wet marble is… slippery, obviously!

Oh and the freshly baked goods are amazing. I almost *never* eat cake I haven’t made myself and definitely am not a fan of over sweetened profiteroles but the pastry chef here makes both perfectly with real ingredients. The profiteroles were perfect… and the staff kindly ignored my 5 year old stashing a piece of cake for later in his pocket (he whipped it out later and offered us all some ;) and oh, when we left at 4am the kind night concierge even gave us warm croissants to take with! We will definitely return.

Our one-day stay started promisingly with a beautiful view from our room overlooking the lake. The breakfast was delicious and extensive, a perfect start to the day. Additionally, the room was clean and the shower was nice, exactly what we needed after our journey.

On the second day of our stay, an unfortunate situation occurred. I asked a man, whom I assumed to be the manager, where I could find the towels for the pool. He directed me to a bar, but upon arrival, no one was there. When I returned after ten minutes to report this, the manager responded rudely and told me to just wait patiently. When I asked him to come with me to see if I was in the right place, he responded with "Mi Dios". He then said I just needed to wait another ten to fifteen minutes for the towels. I found this remark very inappropriate and not fitting the hotel's supposed standards.

Our one-day stay certainly had its highlights, such as the beautiful view of the lake, the delicious breakfast, and the clean facilities, but the unfriendly treatment on the second day unfortunately overshadowed our experience.

Nice hotel overlooking beautiful lake Maggiore near all the attractions of Stresa.
My room was nice, spacious and clean with a powerful shower.

The only two negatives that I had were that, the Hotel Astoria desperately needs to up grade it’s air conditioning system throughout the hotel.☹️

It was extremely hot and stuffy in all the public areas and if I put it on in my bedroom it would make a terrible loud noice so not conducive to sleeping.

The other negative was the evening meal.
It was very hit and miss as I don’t eat meat.
One day there was no main dish that I could eat, so I was given a very small poor pasta dish, that I wouldn’t even feed my dog.

The staff throughout the hotel were very nice and hardworking especially in the dining room.
So I will rate this hotel 4 stars.👍

Super hotel, excellent service, abundant breakfast choices, great location, and good value.

Slightly old fashioned establishment it put me in mind of Agatha Christie (I had visions of Hercule Poirot walking through the door). Comfortable room with a wonderful view of the lake although, being alongside a road, could be a little noisy early in the morning. Convenient for the many lake ferries and a short walk from the railway station. Staff excellent, well trained by Claudio. A good option for those wishing to stay in Stresa
