Borgo Scopeto Wine & Country Relais

This is not a five-star hotel, barely a four-star hotel

Relais Borgo Scopeto may look charming, but our stay left much to be desired. We visited in mid-October when it was unseasonably hot, yet the hotel had already switched to heat, and there was no air conditioning available due to their centralized system, which controls the temperature for the entire property, not individual rooms. We stayed in a first-floor unit in the former horse stables, and the only ventilation came from small window vents that let in mosquitoes when opened, making it an uncomfortable experience.

As a former internet service provider owner, I was especially frustrated with their internet setup. It’s provided by a single 5GHz fixed wireless antenna, and the slightest rain caused the service to go down. It happened multiple times during our week-long stay. This could easily be resolved with a backup service—either wired or another wireless on a different frequency—but they haven’t taken steps to fix this issue.

The laundry service was also absurdly overpriced. It was €4 just to wash a pair of socks and €11 for jeans. Regardless of how much money you have, these prices are ridiculous. Worse yet, they take advantage of their remote location where there are no other options for laundry.

To top it off, the staff was rigid and inflexible, which didn’t help the situation. Overall, this hotel falls short of five-star standards and barely qualifies as a four-star experience.
