Bed & Breakfast «Michelangelo B&B»

The host Michaelangelo was so accommodating and thoughtful. We had the best room closest to the roof top terrace. The terrace is fantastic to take in the spectacular view and or enjoy a drink or bite to eat.The view is stunning and the location just above the swimming beach is perfect. The breakfasts are huge and delicious- be warned!

This B&B was the most INCREDIBLE one we have ever stayed in! Michelangelo’s customer service was absolutely top notch and we were so thrilled with our stay! The room was clean and comfortable and the breakfast was AMAZING!!! We also really enjoyed watching the sunset on the rooftop deck - it was undoubtedly the best view in town! If we’re ever back in Varenna, there will be no question where we’ll stay! Super highly recommend!

Things that were great:
- Miki (Michelangelo) himself- warm, personable. Miki volunteered to pick us up at the train station. It was such a nice surprise and a kind gesture.
- Miki helped us with reservations and recommendations for things to do. Super helpful!
- The location of the hotel was right in the center of town.
- The terrace on the 3rd floor had an AMAZING view of the town/lake.

Reasons I give it 4 stars:
- The bed pillows were rock hard and flat. This was a basic hotel amenity that I think could use improvement. It would also be nice to have more than one pillow per bed.
- The bedside light bulbs were this harsh blue color and changing them to something softer would be any easy fix.
- Only two electrical outlets, one in bathroom and one by the door. Not very convenient.
- Even though it is out of the hotel’s control, the bell tower is right outside the window, which was a disturbance at times.
- The check-in process was very long. We had traveled for 14 hours and just wanted to rest first. I would recommend giving guests a card to fill out with breakfast choices for the next day.
- We got to choose our breakfast on the first day, but we didn’t get to change after that, so we had the same thing every day. It would be nice to try other baked goods.
- The hotel host was a bit disorganized and forget to let us know about a dinner reservation one of the nights, so we missed out on our top choice restaurant.

All in all, good experience but with a few tweaks I this this bnb could be excellent!

Superb little B&B in the centre or Varenna. Everything from the room cleanliness through to the extraordinary breakfast is perfect! Michelangelo is a lovely, chatty host who is there to answer any questions you might have, from where to catch a boat through to suggestions on restaurants to go to. If needed he will even make bookings for you. Be warned for the breakfast that if you are not careful when choosing the various pastries, fruits, breads, grains or yoghurts the day before, you will have a lot of food on your table when you go to have breakfast the next day. All of the produce is personally selected by Michelangelo from the local bakery, butcher, greengrocers, so super fresh and of great quality.

Cannot say enough about how much we enjoyed our stay here. The panoramic view from the roof terrace is incredible. Michelangelo is absolutely wonderful and takes care of his guests. Breakfast every morning was mouth watering. Will definitely stay here again when we return to Varenna.

Please stay here! Michelangelo is the best host, he will answer any and all questions and is so welcoming! The rooftop is accessible with an amazing view of the lake and the breakfast Michelangelo provides is great!
