B&B La Pecora Nera Mini-hotel

Mazzolla is a great little town in Tuscany, and has less that 50 habitants, and that’s where this B@B is located, unfortunately there is 2 types of rooms be aware!
they can give you a room with no views at all, dark and next to the street or you can have a room with a view on the first floor!
Even though they call themselves a Bed and Breakfast they are not! if you want breakfast they will charge 40 euros per couple!
The room was clean and provided a jacuzzi. unfortunate it was extremely small. parking is available at the entrance of the town.
Wifi was intermittent at best.

La Pecora Nera is located in a beautiful little town, Mazzolla, about 15 minutes away from Volterra. Apart from the B&B there's is a wonderful restaurant, Trattoria Albana, where we ate very well twice.
The B&B has a great view over the Tuscan hills and the city of Volterra. Our delicious breakfast (not included in the price) was served in the garden so we could enjoy the view.
At our arrival Elisa welcomed us very friendly and showed us our room. We booked room Eve, but it did not exactly resemble the pictures from the website. So we asked if it was possible to change the room. Elisa was very accomodating and offered us room Eleanora, with the great view. Even though the room did not come with a bottle of water or a snack we were very happy.
Initially we intended to stay 6 nights at La Pecora Nera. However, a surprise visit from family to the area (Firenze) made us change our plans. Plus we felt that the facilities to enjoy a comfortable stay for multiple nights were lacking at the B&B. There's insuficient room to store your clothes and belongings, forcing you to use your luggage every day. Cleaning and maintenance are ok, but should be at a higher level considering the rating and price. The pool is located in another accomodation, 30 minutes away, and costs €10 per person. Apart from the breakfast table and chairs, there is no place to comfortably sit in the garden.
All this would have made for a 4-star review. However, when we informed Elisa we intended to shorten our stay, something changed. The communication became curt and incomplete. When we checked out, we were presented with a bill for 6 nights, instead of 4. The website (nor email, nor whatsapp) does not contain any terms or conditions for changing a booking. When we reached a compromise, Elisa became mad and inhospitable.
We believe that when your business is to accomodate people, you should always make your guests feel welcome. We did not feel that way, unfortunately. Elisa's assistent, Anna, tried to improve things. We are grateful for her effort.

Good, but could easily be great

We have been visiting Volterra and Mazzolla for 19 years. Its a beautiful part of the world.La Pecora Nera is very tranquil and the views from our room were spectacular.We were disappointed that the promised arrival snack & coffee wasn't offered, mainly because the room has no tea / coffee making facilitie, which personally I think are essential. I don't mind at all that there is no TV or radio, but I did object that there was no soap in the bathroom and the towels are frankly second hand. Our room Frida, had a comfortable bed, but had nowhere comfortable to sit and quietly read. I guess this was because half of the room is taken up with a huge Jacuzzi Bath, which I suspect no one ever uses. I'd take that out and add some comfortable seating. Especially as there is no comfortable outside seats, only metal chairs with a cushion. The garden although small has a super view and would be hugely enhanced with the addition of somewhere quiet and comfortable to read or take in the magnificent views. The room was reasonably clean, but surfaces over 6' could do with a proper wipe. The breakfast was one of the best we've ever had in Tuscany in a cosy restored basement, which is delightful. With a few adjustments this could be so much better.
