As others have said the bedding in the hotel is amazing! That’s truly the best thing about our stay. The food at Shimmer was ok, not bad but not great. The staff was kind however when we returned from our outing after the first day, I came back to the room to find out housekeeping threw away ALL my toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, skin care, razor, toothbrush case, hair spray, hair brush, medicines and lotions, etc. all stored in the gallon size travel bag, clearly not trash)! They insisted they had just been stored outside the room but after trying to find out what had happened, we learned they had to go through the trash to recover them. Not only did I not get all my items back, I also got items from someone else who had been staying at the hotel. When I spoke to the hotel representative to try to get the situation remedied I had to tell her I thought I was owed an apology. We were able to raise the issue to the manager who also did not seem to think I my situation was a problem and she offered to try to recover the remainder of my items (now being 24 hours later of sitting in the trash). The only consideration they gave us was two free drinks at the bar. I would not recommend this resort for the cost. I’m very disappointed with the way they treated us.

Avoid at all costs. My wife and I stayed there recently - found a massive cockroach in the bed. When we reported this to reception they couldn't care less. Long story short, ended up leaving early and they decided to still charge us for a packet of crisps!

Worse still after some back and forth via Booking for a refund, whilst they ended up agreeing, we have still not received a penny back. Still waiting after raising this last year.

If you are a fan of cockroaches and empty wallets, this is the hotel for you.

My husband and I booked this hotel for six nights for our honeymoon. We only stayed for one night as when we woke up in the morning, there was a huge cockroach in bed with us. When we opened the door and tried to leave, there was a lizard right outside our room door. I have a severe fear for insects, and have never expected what we experienced would happen at a 5-star hotel. We rearranged our whole honeymoon and booked a flight to Bangkok immediately, and had to book another five nights stay at a Bangkok hotel. We have informed the hotel about this issue on the day we left (15th Dec) and contacted Booking.com for further assistance too. So far, we haven’t received ANY FORM of apology from the hotel, not to mention any refund. The stay at this hotel completely ruined our honeymoon, which also incurs an approximately £2000 extra cost. Disastrous experience, would advise anyone to avoid. I would give it a zero-star rating if I could.
