Majestic Hotel

My review can only be negative especially due to the presence of the employee who was at the entrance door in the morning who was so "kind" to offer to call a taxi for us which made us pay more than double the normal price fare to reach a nearby location. In the following days the same employee continued to insistently suggest that he call the taxi for us but obviously we refused after falling for it the first time. Until the last day when, knowing the time we would leave the hotel, without us having asked, he made us find a taxi in front of the hotel which we again refused to take. While driving we recognized the taxi driver he had called and who had fleeced us like chickens a few days earlier. Furthermore, the cleanliness of the hotel is not optimal. Upon our arrival we had to ask to change the sheets. I attach a photo of the corridor carpet.

Hotel is situated near some shopping, not very good shopping, and the shop keepers near here try to over price things. The hotel charges extra money on top of the room price, so expect to pay more than stated. Hotel is old and not updated or well cared for. Hallway carpets are very dirty and stained. The room was one of the dirtiest we have been in, the comforter and sheets had long cat hair all over them, it was disgusting. Bathroom was not very clean and had one towel. It's a very uncomfortable place, and way overpriced, I wouldn't recommend.

The pictures used on the website are not of the room I was put in. Pros: The location is fantastic, close to the Train station and Medina (15 mins walk) On the tram line too so easy to find your way back from the maze of the medina. Staff were very good getting me a taxi outside to Sidi Bou Said for 17 dinars (20 with a tip - trip takes about 30 mins). Staff friendly enough in bar and on reception. There is a bar which has a happy hour but it's quite expensive. Big room. Good internet. Cons: Very dated, sparse room, no tea and coffee making facilities, uncomfortable bed, flat and lumpy pillows. Not as clean as it could have been. Certainly not 4 star as advertised 3 at best. Can't comment on the food as didn't eat here.

In its glory and hey day this hotel was probably an awesome place to stay however nowadays it’s a two star hotel at best. The issue is two fold. The service sucks and the GM Karem Bey promotes the low class service. The employees including the GM have serious ego issues and you have to kiss their behind just to get service. Marwa in the front desk is a horrid individual. Pay and get out is her attitude; very fake and does not care the slightest about the guest. The water temperature in the showers in not consistent. Hotel is full of bugs including mosquitos at night. Food and beverage prices are double that of outside and the quality is mediocre. If you speak out or show your weight as a guest they immediately threaten you with calling the police. Not a safe hotel and not a safe country. The country itself is very dirty. Trash and rubbish all over the street. The TV is crappy and the channels are all local Tunisian.
