Grand Naniloa Hotel, a Doubletree by Hilton
Hilo, 93 Banyan Drive 🧭 Map
Good location - was a central point to Akaka, Rainbow falls, Ononea trails, and plenty of beaches. We had a great view but specifically booked an ocean view; it seems like anybody without an ocean view has a view of a rundown building on either side of the hotel, so keep that in mind while booking. The service was great, we valeted our car Every time we came and went without issue. The room cooled...
I stayed in one of the corner suites for three nights in February 2023. My partner and I couldn't have been happier! The room itself was clean and comfortable but the best part was the 270 degree wrap-around balcony. The views were excellent. We slept with the sliding doors open each night and the sound of the ocean was so soothing. The lobby area was nice and we enjoyed the live music one of the nights...
We really enjoyed our stay here. The location was beautiful and perfect for our time in Hilo, though there were a couple of abandoned buildings near by that were odd. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Housekeeping does not automatically come everyday, but we were able to schedule them as needed, which worked great for us. You get some perks woth the resort fee and parking was included, so it worked...
This a 3 star experience. The staff were very kind and welcoming. The valet situation was kind of a mess. It’s complimentary but if you call down you have it let it ring for an excessive amount of time to the point where we often just gave up and would choose to walk down and wait. It was a short wait but seemed inefficient. I assume they’re probably just short staffed. We didn’t have consistent hot...
The staff was very friendly and the rooms were what you would expect for a place like this in a place like this. The bed was comfortable and the double balcony was awesome as you could be in the sun when you wanted or out. The restaurant was OK, fair price for the quality. The service was great. The pool was under renovation but open. The lack of a beach is a drawback or maybe I didn't see it.
Wow! Highly exceeded our expectations for a DoubleTree! Views are incredible--get the corner ocean view! It is so worth it. We wished we had more nights here. The lobby is a beautiful open-air design and the entire hotel is hula themed with gorgeous art. We had live entertainment nightly which was so fun considering the rest of the town shuts down fairly early. We even had hula one night! They also...

Very happy we stayed here. The lobby was beautiful and inviting. Right away we were greeted by Brandi and she new what we needed before we did. 3 of us were staying so she gave us comps for the steak house to use that night plus she called house keeping to send up extra towels and toiletries. The room was newer and the view was breath taking. Great location. As a woman, I felt safe walking around by...
Pretty decent place, enjoyed the ocean view, probably the highlight, beautiful sunrises/sunsets and quiet! Easy to get into or around town and back, lots of parking, recommend parking on the lower level, the upper lot fills up. Basic amenities, no smart TV and it's small. Decent place to stay, could use a makeover, rooms finished with wall paper. Would love to have a microwave or toaster oven, but...
Stayed for 5 days it was great! Some of reviews talk about towels in the hallway I found the staff gathered them and it wasn’t a big deal. View was great for ocean! Pricing I found to be good. Overall really enjoyed the stay!
She rooms were big and spacious. We had ants in our room. So they want you to have the trash bag close outside the door. The air conditioner was load and hard to fix. But, the facility was beautiful. Close to gardens and coconut island. The location is beautiful I enjoyed looking at the old trees and volcanic rocks.
World class! It’s more like a resort than a hotel. Ocean views were incredible because well it’s on the beach! Hilo is great, the more relaxing side of Hawaii and talk about green and lush! Restaurant food is was commendable as well. Most very thing is within walking distance. The cruise ship stops nearby on Tuesdays so that is fun to watch. I have been on that NCL ship and that cruise is awesome as...
The breakfast and brunch buffet was amazing! Definitely worth going again. The staff was very helpful and nice and was able to help my needs.

We booked a day pass to the waterfall and were greeted by Ken. He was wonderful and gave us a short history of the location. We had a 10 min hike down to the waterfall and lake and it was both beautiful and awe inspiring. It was like we were in a different world. Voyage to the middle of the earth kind of feel. We swam and enjoyed the peace of the lake, jungle and waterfall. I'm glad we went and...
The inn keeper and staff were delightful, helpful and professional. The setting is profoundly magical and if you time it right you can have your own private waterfall to enjoy with no one around. Our room was nicely appointed and the lanai had a view of the waterfall - par none! We will definitely recommend to our friends seeking a restful, memorable visit.
Wow! What a great 3 hrs at the falls. Easy to book add on items when you get down there too. Great restrooms for folks going to the falls only. I guess it was so nice we left my son’s favorite hat! Ah well, great time.
We stayed in the cabins and they were more than expected. If you’re ok with a camping type stay this is basically that but better! The views and the nature sounds are amazing! I thoroughly enjoyed the outdoor shower and the common areas were very clean. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The cabins have a great breeze at night so it gets a little chilly but I loved it! The bed was comfortable...
After spending two fun filled weeks on the Kohala side of the island, we stayed for 3 nights in a room at the Inn at Kulaniapia Falls, overlooking the waterfall! The sound was hypnotizing. We sat out on the balcony at different times, morning, afternoon, evening and late at night to enjoy the view. At night the stars are incredible! The location was like being in the middle of a tropical rain forest...
Fantastic location and chilled vibe. We loved coming back at the end of a day and taking a swim in the rock pool at the bottom of the waterfall. Lovely walks in the garden and quiet spots to sit were great too.

What a fantastic, fascinating house, and what a wonderful hostess Maureen is. Be sure to save time in the morning to chat over your delicious breakfast! If you are a lover of cats, you will also love to meet Seabiscuit the cat, and she will be happy to come visit you in your room. The location across from Carlsmith Beach Park is perfect.
We always come and stay at Maureen' s when we come to the islands. It feels like home away from home. I'm so well looked after since Maureen stays stocked up with gluten free pancakes mix.
This B and B has eclectic decour, a warm proprietor and eccentric clientele who came together because of the inticing online photographs and a desire for peace and quiet. Wonderful night sounds and scents. Many objects of craft and art to review. Modest but warm digs. Cats.
Amazing house from the 1930's in beautiful redwood inside. Huge screened in wrap around areas to sit and relax. Amazing home made breakfasts home made quiche, fresh fruit, next day huge Belgium waffles yum yum, and fresh blueberry pancakes lots of hot coffee...gained 5 lbs. And she loves sharing with you the best spots on island to go see and how to arrange it. I have a new best friend and will use...
Great experience. Maureen was very accommodating and friendly. When you walk into the house you can't help but fall in love with the architecture. Breakfast was delish! Fresh Island fruit and yummy quiche, plenty for all. We had no trouble finding the B&B and took Maureen's advice upon departing to visit Richardson's Beach at the end of the road (1 more mile). If you want to stay in Hilo look no further. This place is amazing. Perfect location for everything on this side of the island. Our room had an incredible morning sunrise every day, literally watching whales every morning, the view is hard to beat. The breakfast is very rotating fresh fruit, make your own coffee, a rotating pastry, hard boiled eggs, milk/bars/oatmeal, it's perfect for us. I would stay...
The reviews on trip advisor are more reflective of recent experiences … they all say just about the same thing. I copied and pasted mine below This is not your classic bed and breakfast… more like air B and B. Based on previous reviews, it seems there was a change in Management recently. They don’t serve breakfast, with Covid as an excuse which I can understand. But if you are going to do a prepacked...
We stayed here one or two weeks after the new owner bought this place. The new owner is a vacation company, so they help you remotely. Because it was during a transitional time, there were some confusion in the communication. The check in didn't go very smooth. However, despite some of the troubles, we loved this place so much! The room was comfortable. The patio area is gorgeous. The garden is well...
The B&B owners Maria and Ricardo are fantastic. They made us feel welcome and comfortable. Our room, the Pele suite, was exactly the way it looked in the pictures online. We weren’t looking for a B&B but we are so happy we stumbled across this place! We loved watching the surfers and sunrises over the ocean below. This is a 5 star bed and breakfast, but we had a 3 start experience, so I'm averaging 4 stars. The grounds and house are absolutely beautiful. Breakfast was delicious. Staff was friendly. Rooms were large and in nice shape. Our only problem was lack of air conditioning, but it was a pretty big problem. In fairness lots of places in Hawaii don't have AC, however at $200+ I honestly expect AC. Even a...
We stayed here for a staycation Anniversary celebration. It was very peaceful and relaxing. We had an upper room with a beautiful view. The room has a king sized bed and a small sitting area. A very nice house with beautiful garden and perfect rooms. The rooms are spacious ours with a gas chimney, this gave some extra ambience and more important within our stay weather was rainy, we had a heated room. The owners are very nice, prepared the breakfast every morning- thanks for the perfect stay!
I stayed at this inn for 2 nights in April, I felt it was the very paradise for me. Actually I was more satisfied than I expected. It was too less to enjoy staying here for two nights. Because it has only 8 rooms, the staff were very kind and friendly. There was a jacuzzi bathtub not in the restroom but in our room!! It was wonderful. We had a lovely time at SCP Hilo! The staff was super helpful. The hotel overall has a really modern, fun and youthful feel. There is really nice free coffee in the lobby for guests 24 hours / day, a lovely pool, and multiple nice communal areas to hang out. Great location and property. Staff was friendly, easy to check in and out and rooms were clean and comfortable. A good choice for a stay in hilo.
This place was amazing. Nice clean well kept rooms. Air conditioner worked perfect for those hot Hilo nights. Two minute walk from an amazing beach super awesome snorkeling there. Would definitely recommend to anybody
Was only in Hilo for one night and this was amazing! We booked on Airbnb and it was one of my favorite places we stayed the whole trip. The AC was amazing and powerful, the bathrooms we're clean, the bed was comfortable and there was some stuff for a small breakfast in the morning (toast, fruit, cereal) I didn't use their washer/dryer but it is great that they have one for use!

Location was beautiful. Price was good. Wi-Fi was slow. When we went in for check in, they hadn't cleaned our room. I thought we had walked in to someone elses room. I had to go back to the front desk and tell them our room was a mess. They gave us another room on another floor and didn't apologize for giving us the wrong unclean room.
Cozy hotel with nice view out over the bay and tropical garden between rooms. Wi-Fi wasnt working when we were there, and limited parking, but they're luxuries when on holiday. Handy general store with breakfast & lunch available out the front of the hotel.
Very nice hotel. Older amenities but still very comfortable. Close to great food. Very polite staff.
This quaint hotel is centrally located making it easy to travel around Hilo. The rooms could do with a bit of updating, but in Hawaii, the goal is not too be in the hotel room the entire trip. The staff is friendly, the rooms are can and the view is nice.

Cynthia was a friendly host, she made us feel very comfortable and provided good suggestions on where to eat. Also upgraded us to a larger room free of charge. The property was clean and rooms are spacious. It was good to have access to a fridge and cooking facilities if needed. Location was good, especially if you have a car.
This is a very relaxed place to stay. Very clean. Cynthia is very easy going. It is NOT like a normal hotel though. Show up with an Aloha spirit and it's perfect. Take your shoes off. 😉
What a lovely place to stay! Cynthia was so friendly and made us feel very welcome. Reservation and check-in was uncomplicated. We stayed in one of the small downstairs suites and it had all we needed for two nights. We had a great time and would recommend anyone staying in Hilo to consider Shaka Shak!
Cynthia made our trip so amazing! She made maps of the island with great places to eat and everywhere we had to visit! There were places we did not even know about! Her house had such good energy as well!! The price is beyond fair and you will feel so comfortable!! So so recommend!!!!!
Great place to stay! I was only looking for 2 nights however I liked it so much I extended to 4 nights. Host was really nice and the place was clean. Large kitchen with use of the fridge/freezer. Bedrooms are equipped with very nice fans. Backyard was nice to sit and relax under the bamboo and orange tree. I was traveling on my own but next time I will bring my gf and stay at the Shaka Shak. Very good spot to set down in Hilo in order to visit the island. Kitchen is useful. Chamber is big.
Nice place and easy check in but there was an insect in my room that was rather repulsive. I turned my head to get something to tackle the problem and it ran off. I couldn't find it. So throughout the night I was wondering if it got into my bed with me in the dark.
I really enjoyed the stay. The rental is well maintained, clean, and airy. This would be a great place to reserve for a group trip. There are plenty of rooms, each with their own coded lock, a couple of full bathrooms, and a kitchen with two sinks. There is premium cable and WiFi. The Wild Ginger Hotel is an older hotel only a couple blocks from downtown Hilo. Very old hotel. But the service was the best we had the entire trip to 2 islands. The most fun and the best information we ever had on any trip! Lee and her husband were the BEST hosts ever on any trip. As many stars as I can give! I totally recommend this place to anyone who wants to experience an authentic Hi experience with a Hilo vibe...This is the place. Thank you Lee!
Nice hotel with a fun Hawaiian vibe. Loved the decorations and the open air lobby. Breakfast was nice.. Fruit, croissants, bagels, jam. The room was pretty plain but who cares - you're in Hawaii, you're not going to spend much time in the room. We even got to see the local cat Pete.
Interesting room on a cliff. Staff was super friendly and helpful, area was a little questionable. Room was very reasonably priced.
This is one of the cheapest rooms you can get in this area and you get what you paid for. This is an old building, old showers, old beds, small rooms, college aged kids carrying on outside your room until the wee hours of the night. Very clean. Old school key to room. Parking is like playing tetris. I would walk around day only. Quiet so far, at least on the first floor. Feral cats running around don't bother me. Staff very nice, hard to hear sometimes, soft spoken. Price just OK, a little high for no elevator and no a/c.
Room itself is okay, it's very basic and bland. Hotel is in a good location however upon arrival the lady who checked us in was very unpleasant with a rude attitude. The WiFi in the room was so slow, slower than using my own data. Had I known it was going to be as horrible as it was, I wouldn't have stayed here. If you want to have a memorable vacation, Hilltop Legacy Vacation is the place. Run by a friendly family and three sweetest cats. We had a fantastic 8 days stay and would stay there again. It's an older home but one of the nicest houses in Hilo. Located on top of the hill with beautiful outdoors and view to Hilo Bay. Highly recommend, Snowball will greet you with open arms. I missed him.
Seems like it would be a great place for a group of people who share a vehicle and want multiple rooms. Beautiful outdoor space and large lobby area with billiard table. There was a great view of Hilo Bay from the room. The room was nice as were the owners. But, like others have stated, the parking situation is absurd and confusing. Two (maybe 3?) spots for five rooms doesn’t add up.
Wanted to stay 1 more night could not find anyone to ask? Did not get answer on the phone? So I left.

quiet and comfortable (in deluxe queen room) - a great base for a weeks stay. you need a car for getting around.
Very well located, friendly staff, nice room with a fridge, kitchen is shared with two others rooms, would need a bit more equipments. The little private patio, offers a peaceful view to eat outside. 5 min away from the beaches and city center, I loved my stay at Arnott’s Lodge.

Shared bathroom wasn't really a problem given they are only 3 rooms. We barely saw other guests. Everything is well organized for short or longer stays. On the downside the only thing we have to say is the fact it's impossible...
