Very happy we stayed here. The lobby was beautiful and inviting. Right away we were greeted by Brandi and she new what we needed before we did. 3 of us were staying so she gave us comps for the steak house to use that night plus she called house keeping to send up extra towels and toiletries. The room was newer and the view was breath taking. Great location. As a woman, I felt safe walking around by...
Pretty decent place, enjoyed the ocean view, probably the highlight, beautiful sunrises/sunsets and quiet! Easy to get into or around town and back, lots of parking, recommend parking on the lower level, the upper lot fills up. Basic amenities, no smart TV and it's small. Decent place to stay, could use a makeover, rooms finished with wall paper. Would love to have a microwave or toaster oven, but...
Stayed for 5 days it was great! Some of reviews talk about towels in the hallway I found the staff gathered them and it wasn’t a big deal. View was great for ocean! Pricing I found to be good. Overall really enjoyed the stay!
She rooms were big and spacious. We had ants in our room. So they want you to have the trash bag close outside the door. The air conditioner was load and hard to fix. But, the facility was beautiful. Close to gardens and coconut island. The location is beautiful I enjoyed looking at the old trees and volcanic rocks.
World class! It’s more like a resort than a hotel. Ocean views were incredible because well it’s on the beach! Hilo is great, the more relaxing side of Hawaii and talk about green and lush! Restaurant food is was commendable as well. Most very thing is within walking distance. The cruise ship stops nearby on Tuesdays so that is fun to watch. I have been on that NCL ship and that cruise is awesome as...
The breakfast and brunch buffet was amazing! Definitely worth going again. The staff was very helpful and nice and was able to help my needs.

We booked a day pass to the waterfall and were greeted by Ken. He was wonderful and gave us a short history of the location. We had a 10 min hike down to the waterfall and lake and it was both beautiful and awe inspiring. It was like we were in a different world. Voyage to the middle of the earth kind of feel. We swam and enjoyed the peace of the lake, jungle and waterfall. I'm glad we went and...
The inn keeper and staff were delightful, helpful and professional. The setting is profoundly magical and if you time it right you can have your own private waterfall to enjoy with no one around. Our room was nicely appointed and the lanai had a view of the waterfall - par none! We will definitely recommend to our friends seeking a restful, memorable visit.
Wow! What a great 3 hrs at the falls. Easy to book add on items when you get down there too. Great restrooms for folks going to the falls only. I guess it was so nice we left my son’s favorite hat! Ah well, great time.
We stayed in the cabins and they were more than expected. If you’re ok with a camping type stay this is basically that but better! The views and the nature sounds are amazing! I thoroughly enjoyed the outdoor shower and the common areas were very clean. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The cabins have a great breeze at night so it gets a little chilly but I loved it! The bed was comfortable...
After spending two fun filled weeks on the Kohala side of the island, we stayed for 3 nights in a room at the Inn at Kulaniapia Falls, overlooking the waterfall! The sound was hypnotizing. We sat out on the balcony at different times, morning, afternoon, evening and late at night to enjoy the view. At night the stars are incredible! The location was like being in the middle of a tropical rain forest...
Fantastic location and chilled vibe. We loved coming back at the end of a day and taking a swim in the rock pool at the bottom of the waterfall. Lovely walks in the garden and quiet spots to sit were great too.

If you want to stay in Hilo look no further. This place is amazing. Perfect location for everything on this side of the island. Our room had an incredible morning sunrise every day, literally watching whales every morning, the view is hard to beat. The breakfast is very rotating fresh fruit, make your own coffee, a rotating pastry, hard boiled eggs, milk/bars/oatmeal, it's perfect for us. I would stay...
The reviews on trip advisor are more reflective of recent experiences … they all say just about the same thing. I copied and pasted mine below This is not your classic bed and breakfast… more like air B and B. Based on previous reviews, it seems there was a change in Management recently. They don’t serve breakfast, with Covid as an excuse which I can understand. But if you are going to do a prepacked...
We stayed here one or two weeks after the new owner bought this place. The new owner is a vacation company, so they help you remotely. Because it was during a transitional time, there were some confusion in the communication. The check in didn't go very smooth. However, despite some of the troubles, we loved this place so much! The room was comfortable. The patio area is gorgeous. The garden is well...
The B&B owners Maria and Ricardo are fantastic. They made us feel welcome and comfortable. Our room, the Pele suite, was exactly the way it looked in the pictures online. The view of the water was awesome! Very comfortable bed. We loved the food served at breakfast. Each morning, Maria and Ricardo would make sure we're pointed in the right direction with suggestions of things to do and the best way...
We weren’t looking for a B&B but we are so happy we stumbled across this place! We loved watching the surfers and sunrises over the ocean below. Both our breakfasts were fantastic and the home is extremely well maintained and tidy. Ric and Maria are perfect hosts with great knowledge of the area so definitely ask their recommendations. We will definitely be back and we highly recommend this place to...
The view from the lanaii was beautiful. Breakfast was buffet style and the hours were set. Good location from downtown Hilo.

Cynthia was a friendly host, she made us feel very comfortable and provided good suggestions on where to eat. Also upgraded us to a larger room free of charge. The property was clean and rooms are spacious. It was good to have access to a fridge and cooking facilities if needed. Location was good, especially if you have a car.
This is a very relaxed place to stay. Very clean. Cynthia is very easy going. It is NOT like a normal hotel though. Show up with an Aloha spirit and it's perfect. Take your shoes off. 😉
What a lovely place to stay! Cynthia was so friendly and made us feel very welcome. Reservation and check-in was uncomplicated. We stayed in one of the small downstairs suites and it had all we needed for two nights. We had a great time and would recommend anyone staying in Hilo to consider Shaka Shak!
Cynthia made our trip so amazing! She made maps of the island with great places to eat and everywhere we had to visit! There were places we did not even know about! Her house had such good energy as well!! The price is beyond fair and you will feel so comfortable!! So so recommend!!!!!
Great place to stay! I was only looking for 2 nights however I liked it so much I extended to 4 nights. Host was really nice and the place was clean. Large kitchen with use of the fridge/freezer. Bedrooms are equipped with very nice fans. Backyard was nice to sit and relax under the bamboo and orange tree. I was traveling on my own but next time I will bring my gf and stay at the Shaka Shak. Mahalo

We were given a bottom floor non view room. It had a view of a lovely hibiscus bush but behind was a large apartment building/parking lot. Plus= comfortable clean bed, bedding and linens. Towels smelled fresh. Very quiet at night. Room was clean and tidy. No bedbugs. We were not afraid and walked all over and around to coconut island in the dark! No problems. Minus=old, dated mossy building. 70s military...
Excellent location, Right on the water, It's a peaceful area surrounded by many gorgeous parks... The hotel itself is very old they should really take some of their earnings and revise it , It's owned by a semi-large Chinese family and then they take all the parking spots against the building and then the other parking spots are open to the guests, and then there's plenty of street parking, The rooms...
Very clean. Old school key to room. Parking is like playing tetris. I would walk around day only. Quiet so far, at least on the first floor. Feral cats running around don't bother me. Staff very nice, hard to hear sometimes, soft spoken. Price just OK, a little high for no elevator and no a/c.
Room itself is okay, it's very basic and bland. Hotel is in a good location however upon arrival the lady who checked us in was very unpleasant with a rude attitude. The WiFi in the room was so slow, slower than using my own data. Had I known it was going to be as horrible as it was, I wouldn't have stayed here. But overall the bed was comfortable and I guess that's all that really matters to them...
This hotel is clean. It's old and showing a lot of wear. No air conditioning but there's a ceiling fan and a floor stand fan. It works well if you leave your balcony door open, which felt questionable. This area probably used to be beautiful. There's a lot of things that make it feel run down and begging for a lot of TLC. I didn't feel safe to walk around after dark. The planes take off right by the...
Good value for an ocean view. Close walk to nearby restaurant. The lobby needs work,. The staff is friendly and our room had apartment size refrigerator, microwave and large sink. We didn't have a car so the location was walking distance to what we needed.

Words and pictures won’t accurately describe the experience of being in this house. The interior is spacious, simple and elegant. 360 views in all rooms brings the beauty of the property indoors. I could sit in the kitchen watching the waterfall for hours. Coqui frogs, a family of wild boars, and beautiful birds inhabit the property. The hot and cold soaking tubs are perfect for watching the sun rise...
We were here for an intimate wedding ceremony, the property is simply magical! The modern/very clean house is set in the middle of the jungle with a private waterfall and river! I was in plant heaven, still daydreaming about this stunning property!
The owners of this property have thought of it all. The moment you walk through this open concept estate, you immediately feel the calm and love. The air smells of lavender. You can hear the calming water just below. They set up the kitchen and other rooms with arrangements of flowers and a guidebook to help you get the most of your stay there, they even have a bag of chargers just in case you need...
Gorgeous home at the top of a hill. Photos don’t do it justice. This was the perfect Hawaiian retreat. Will book again!
This home completely exceeded our expectations. To call it a slice of paradise is almost an understatement. The property is beautiful and pristine. The home was very clean and very well kept. The owners provide all the information that you need to know to make your visit wonderful. Jack and Jane are the most lovely couple and are wonderful to communicate with. We truly had a great experience staying...

A little pricey. But a great old place, right in the center of things. Shared kitchen, bathroom,YiFi.cleen.
Pretty nice place, staff was very friendly, the lady who cleaned the kitchen allowed me to come back after the kitchen had closed so I could get my clothes out of the drier, and the staff made an effort to strike up conversations and be personal. I had a good stay there!
First, something I really didn’t appreciate is how the staff will opt to kick you out at check out. I had to argue to stay to get a little more work done before leaving, but I paid for my night and I was literally the only one in the building, it’s not like I had taken up someone’s space. I found this to be rude enough for me not to stay here again. I was also told that prior to “officially” checking...
Nice location downtown, the lady at reception was welcoming and pleasant. Interesting building, would have preferred it being more clean or modern for the cost compared to other hostels on the island but overall it was a good experience. Fresh bedding is provided for each guest and check in is straight forward. Kind of an awkward vibe but it's good if you just need a place to sleep, not so much meet...

I come here with a women's new moon circle group that meets here once a month. The steam vents are amazing! There are two little rooms, the smaller room hotter. Two cold showers to cool off in. Its a beautiful spot!
We had a great time in this location, clean ,accessible, the hosts were very kind and helpful, property is well kept and reasonably priced. The sauna is a very special feature, I totally recommend, healing and pamper by the goddess of the volcano herself. Great service, great people, awesome place! Must try! Congrats!!!
Highly recommended! If you dream of seeing red hot lava flow into the ocean, Pahoa is the place to visit, and while you're there, Pele's breath is an excellent choice for a lodging. A small business managed by a charming couple, Pele's breath has airy, stylishly furnished rooms with en suite bathrooms, beautiful ocean views and a well equipped kitchen for the guests to use. Our room had a patio as...
This place was awesome. They have a beautiful ocean view and nicely furnished, big rooms. There's a kitchen guests can use and a large variety of complimentary breakfast ingredients for making yourself the breakfast of your choice. The grounds are beautiful and interesting: there's vulcanic steam vents and even a steam sauna heated with natural steam. If you're going on a lava boat tour, the location...

This place was breathtaking! Really enjoyed my stay at KMEC. The people were very welcoming and made it feel like home for the week I was there. It was a very new experience for me but was exactly what I needed to take a pause and reflect on what I want out of life. The meditation and the yoga were incredible and the food was even better! Thank you, will hopefully be back soon!
KMEC was a deeply supportive and beautiful place to host our retreat. The setting is stunning with hundreds of fruit trees and lush vegetation all around. Our group loved the facility and the staff, who were all incredibly loving, supportive and worked with us on every detail of our stay. I highly recommend hosting your retreat on this land steeped in healing energy.
KMEC is a beautifully unique spot. I ran a summer program for 28 people, so we rented the entire retreat center and were there for 5 weeks. We had an incredible time. One of the most remote and beautifully nestled spots I’ve ever experienced. Wonderful and kind staff, and great vegan dining. Would love to spend more time there in the future.
The volunteers I was with were amazingg!! All of them were great helpers and very welcoming! The food was also veryyy good! I knocked the stars because it's not really a place to get an immersive retreat feel as the website mentions. It's a very open schedule with only yoga scheduled in the morning. (When I was there there wasn't even meditation classes offered) So if you're looking for a regime or...
Beautiful and serene place nestled in soul satisfying greenery. James was welcoming and helped us throughout our stay. The cabins rest in the middle of trees and lush green grass. You are greeted with sounds of birds, frogs and occasional rain. Staff prepared delicious vegan GF meals. We had amazing experience stargazing at night since the place is away from light pollution. We had a chance to speak...

If this is living off grid, sign me up! The pictures are spot on! The bedrooms are spacious and comfortable. I love the shower in the left side master. The pebble floor is like a gentle massage.
