Nice hotel with great views. The rooms are really nice, clean, and comfortable, as was the bed. The staff were very friendly. Check in was a breeze. However, the room had a strange odor as soon as we walked in the room, particularly worse in the bathroom. It didn’t take away from our stay, but I do feel it is worth noting. Also, there is an additional $25 charge for parking, which is directly across...
This is a nice location if you walk the Santa Cruz Boardwalk Beach. All the rooms face the ocean so you are guaranteed an ocean view which is wonderful. The first thing I realized was that I would be charged an extra $25 a night to park. Hotels shouldn't charge for parking that should be included in your stay. I was them disappointed with the room. I have only stayed here once before, and that...
Solid spot. I spent 3 nights and 2 days of conferences. Rooms are very good, converted, old style. Nice amenities. Ocean view to die for. Great staff and room service. Bed and linens were dreamy. I had one of the best ever vodka martinis at their bar. Coffee cart in lobby excellent also. I didn't get the chance to try the pool but the other guests seemed to really enjoy it. Parking / valet easy peasy...
Staff was very friendly and location couldn’t be any better. I love the style of the rooms. Fairly clean but carpet a little sticky, coffee machine needed a good cleaning before I used it, and toilet paper holder loose on the wall, shower door leaked a little. Faucets not in the best shape. Didn’t have a microwave in the room. Food the hotel offered was decent but over priced for the quality. Parking...
Can't beat the location and the views, for sure. Staff was super friendly, especially the valets. For the price, the amenities in the rooms could have been much nicer (better coffee, nicer bedding, etc.) Bathroom is dated and needs a good remodel. Food and drinks are priced sky-high and were just ok. The pool and hot tub area are great. Easy beach access.
Gorgeous views, beautiful rooms, and free valet parking for wedding guests. Just remember to tip your driver 😉

We really enjoyed our stay here. The facility and grounds were beautiful. The decor and style was gorgeous and made for awesome photo’s everywhere from the art and furnishing styles. The View restaurant was great and we enjoyed live music. We had a nice treatment in the spa for a relaxing and enjoyable experience. Very adult, kid, and pet friendly. Room was on the smaller side, but clean and perfect...
We loved this resort. Came with my family and enjoyed the pool and spa. The property is good sized with 3 different hiking trails. The 2 queen room is really 2 double beds. Not sure why they mixed that up. The room is a big rectangle with nice space, but it needs a couch or other sitting area. The view is gorgeous, sitting on top of a hillside. The restaurant is pretty solid for a hotel, too.
My daughter and I stayed here while we were on a roadtrip in Northern California. The drive up to Chaminade, with the convertible top down, through the cool evening air with the scent of mature eucalyptus trees wafting over us, was something we never forgot. Amazing! My daughter even used eucalyptus accents at her beautiful wedding, many moons later. Our accommodations were luxurious and the saltwater...
Charminade is a beautiful resort. My girlfriend and I had a little weekend getaway there, the service was stellar, the facilities are clean and enjoyable. Wish we had a chance to check out the spa, but instead enjoyed the sauna and pool. Highly recommend.
Beautiful views, nice rooms, friendly staff, and a fun bar in a place that was easy to find. We even saw deer come onto the property. The food was good but didn't blow me away. Some items were better than others; the cheese platter was really good, and the vanilla cheesecake was awesome. The wine selection is a little limited. This was a great venue for a corporate type of off-site.
Very peaceful resort that is kid friendly. Staff were nice, gym and swimming pool was nearby and clean. Will definitely return.

Really excellent location, right between the Santa Cruz beach and the Santa Cruz mountain redwoods. Staff has been incredibly friendly so far and super accommodating. I'm staying in a one-bedroom king suite which is a good size room. I do think they need to update their sofas they're a little run down and I would like to see them touch up the shower a bit as well considering the cost of the room. But...
Great location, loved the hot tub and pool area. Room was clean and well put together, although there were some stains on the furniture. We requested a room with forest view and were put on the opposite side. This wouldn't have been a huge deal but there was a very loud rattling in the bathroom from the AC unit outside of the room. I went to ask about changing rooms and was met with someone that said...
We checked in on Easter weekend and we're able to easily upgrade to a family suite. The suite was much more spacious than we thought it would be, huge! Complete with a kitchenette area with a microwave and fridge/freezer combo. Everyone had their own space to hangout and bathroom to use which was fantastic. Everything was clean and tidy with well-appointed spaces. The rooms were surprisingly quiet...
The best hotel I have stayed in US so far. I come from Europe, there the hotels are generally of better quality. Here I felt as in Europe, this is a big compliment!
The facilities are beautiful, the staff were so friendly and helpful and there is dinner and breakfast available. We were able to use the pool and hot tub. The bed was very comfortable, everything was great. It was about a 20 minute drive to the Santa Cruz boardwalk which is where we spent most of our time.
The room is as expected at par but the swimming pool is sparkling clean! Not to mention the mattress is very comfotable too. The buildings are old structures but they maintain very well. We've stayed in other hotels in the area and so far this one is the best.

There was a pretty big heated pool and a great bar area. They also had a hot tub. Food and cocktails were great. The room was big and the beds were very good.
The staff is incredibly kind. Our company uses their services when we have admin members visiting from out of town, and we partner regularly for park/river cleanups. Recently I got to bring my management crew in for lunch to check out their new restaurant and everyone was extremely pleased with their food and cocktails. If it's in your budget I highly recommend it over similarly priced hotels in the...
My friends and I had a lovely stay. The pool and extra large hot tub are very nice. The temperature of the hot tub and pool was great. Older bartender John was very kind (was working in the AM). Cocktails were delicious. Proximity to downtown is great (5 min walk). We would be happy to stay again.
I travel quite often for work and when I am in the Santa Cruz / Monterey area, I always stay at the Paradox. The menu in the restaurant is good, the rooms are comfortable, the pool area is GREAT ! with that said, the main reason I keep returning is the staff (Especially Jeff at the bar and restaurant). I always get treated like I am a VIP - and I notice that they treat everyone that way. Definitely...
I recently stayed here for 1 night with my husband and our dog. We got a king-bed room on the 1st floor that faced the parking lot instead of the pool which is what the front desk recommended when I asked for a quieter room. The check-in service was excellent. The hotel lobby has been recently updated, there is a water bottle filling station, nice restaurant, pool & hot tub outside, fitness center...
This place was so spectacular with its amazing interior and hotel room comforts. The staff was helpful and friendly. The pool is heated! So close to downtown activities and restaurants. We had dinner at their restaurant and the food was good and decently priced. Loved their drink selection the most, got a tasty mocktail! Would definitely stay again, but would like to see them not carry Starbucks in...

I stayed here with my daughter last month for a field trip. Laura was fantastic! Her customer service skills were top notch! The room was clean and comfortable! Dolar was also friendly and helpful. Can't beat the location if you're heading to beach. We are planning to stay here again soon!
The initial room we got had some issues not worth mentioning, however staff was quick to switch us rooms without question and I appreciate how nice the front desk lady was. The bed was comfortable, the room was clean and the price was fair.
Rooms are clean and nice and tidy. . Staff was quite nice... Impressed with the body wash, shampoo and conditioner they had available for use.. no smoking allowed on motel property, .. decent price rooms also..
Stayed here for a week in 2017. My family and I had a great time. We had 2 queen size beds and enjoyed the amenities. We watched movies, relaxed and just really had a relaxing visit. We were dealing with repair issues at home so it was nice to just have everything working correctly. The continental breakfast was much more variety and options than expected. Helped with having kids who can be fussy...
I went in the week between Christmas & New Years for vacation with my partner. Check in was easy and fast. While we did have a couple hiccups that was out of the control of management (Loud guests & subtle smoke smell in the room), we received complimentary service and management was responsive to our concerns. We felt safe, comfortable (the beds are so soft and plush, definitely a highlight) and...
Simple but not extravagant. Elegant but not fancy. Technically this is a motel (rooms are accessible from the outside) Laura, our evening host was professional and friendly. Even offered a yogurt for my dad. (Yes...it's the simple things that count) We originally had an upstairs room, but we objected as my dad can't climb stairs. Laura was kind enough to upgrade to a first floor with no charge!! Very...

Our stay was fair enough. I would probably stay here again I just don’t have high expectations for them. As people have mentioned the pool is not working and is under repairs. Also it is not mentioned anywhere by the hotel, PARKING IS NOT FREE HERE. You are charged $10/night for parking to our surprise. If we were told that in advance it wouldn’t of been such a big deal, however it isn’t a pleasant...
Lovely staff and super nice and clean rooms. Heated pool is wonderful especially for the kids. Great family hotel. Staff is very helpful and nice.
Locatiom is wonderful! There are so many great places within walking distance. I heard a bit of the road noise, but I slept great. The shower is the best I've ever had at a hotel. The bed is great. I would stay here again!
Very quick check in and check out. They helped me make quick upgrades over the phone. Comfy bedding and sheets. Good hot breakfast. It was our first staying overnight in Santa Cruz and we were glad to had next to the hotel Dunkin Donuts and grilled hamburgers and a 711 store in front. A lot of parking space when you pat $7 pet day.
I stayed in a single king bed guest room and it was perfect. Simple, cute, clean. The bathroom was amazing. The staff was very friendly. If I come back I'm definitely staying here again.
This is my favorite place to stay in the area. The pricing is fair and the amenities they offer aren't just fluff. The WiFi works well and the free breakfast they offer is pretty good with plenty of choices including fresh fruit, yogurt and pancakes. The rooms are well appointed and quiet. Everything was wonderful. Staff very friendly, rooms, facilities, parking.... Not one thing was wrong. Made our trip!
Great location, attentive staff at the free breakfast, and secured parking lot. Knocked off a star because no benefits given for titanium elite status. It was a quiet weekend (parking lot was 40% capacity on Sunday 8am) but they didn’t give us an upgrade to a ground floor or a room with a patio as requested.
Really nice for what it is. Parking garage is underground. Had a junior suite. Great rates and loved the dual shower head shower. Kinda weird to have a window that goes from the bathroom into the living room, but whatever. Will stay here again.
Everything was great! Checking in was fast but friendly (I forgot the ladies name but she was nice!) The room was clean and spacious! Breakfast was yummy! The hotel itself is clean and beautiful! Definitely recommend!
Overall a great place to stay! The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was clean and unique in design. The under ground parking was clean and felt safe. Breakfast was good and fresh. My only gripe is the bed I got was heavily worn and in my opinion due for a replacement. I’d stay here again.
It's a beautiful place...loved the room...loved the service...front desk and bar very welcoming.....room spacious and comfortable ...the Marriot experience was satisfying as it is everytime. ♡

I had a fantastic experience here. My room was so clean and every employee I interacted with was beyond kind. Seriously, even the guy cleaning the carpets was whistling while he worked! So clean and friendly I ended up rearranging my trip to stay a second night. Thank you!
This had to be one of the best hotels I have stayed at in a long time. The property is well maintained, the room and bed were great, and the complimentary breakfast was really good. The staff were accommodating and willing to help with any request. Would recommend 5/5.
Really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. It's about a 10 minute drive away from the wharf in a very quiet mixed use neighbourhood. There are trails and beaches just a few minutes walk away. Free breakfast and parking were really appreciated as well. Highly recommended.
Clean and nice. Typical hotel issues. Mini-fridge freezes things and the breakfast is about as good as left over McDonald's. On the bright side the TV was easy to connect to HDMI.

Hotel is nice and clean, rooms are clean just the breakfast is garbage it's not worth the time to even look you are better off walking down the street for a bagel or IHOP
We have stayed at this hotel several times and have never been disappointed! Our 34th year to meet with family ( children and grandchildren ) for Labor Day weekend where we rent a home that will accommodate all of us. Lisa our breakfast maven was wonderful and on top of all the guests needs and keeping breakfast well stocked cheerfully. Karen at reception and all the receptionists were wonderful and helpful! Housekeeping was great as well! Will definitely stay again, kids loved the pool.
It was ok. Pro’s. Very close to the beach. Friendly staff, Stephen checked us in quickly and offered us some suggestions on where to eat. We stayed on 3rd floor and had a clean room. The pull out sofa just had a regular sheet, not a small fitted so my son kept having to fix it over night. The bathroom did have a working ventilation system leading to a musty smell. The shower pressure was underwhelming...
I love Capitola if you haven't been there go see it. If you can catch one of the festivals down there you'll really enjoy the place. It can get kind of messy at night in some areas, just watch where you are. No one's really going to bother you. I'll just say some people are a bit weird pretty much harmless though. I absolutely loved this stay. I was greeted by the very friendly front staff who showed me around as if he was giving me a tour of his own home instead of just giving me instructions and sending me on my way. It was a fantastic visit and stay at the Rio Vista Inn. We had a late arrival but Jeremy had everything all set up for us. Even saved us a parking spot. He was quick to help us with our questions about the local businesses and the history of the hotel. The place was clean and had everything we needed. Easy access to shopping and restaurants. We will surely stay here again.
This place is amazing ! I instantly got good vibes. Jeremy is so friendly and passionate. He really made my experience special 😊 The house is located in such a great area. I had chosen Santa Cruz for a leg of a three-week bike trip from Vancouver to San Diego and was looking for personally run family hotels with character - the opposite of a uniform business hotel. I was warmly welcomed by Jeremy (thanks at this point for...
We stayed in room 7, which is in the main mansion, and it was amazing. We had a jet bathtub and a shower and the bed was sooo comfortable. The people who run the place clearly love the place and had so many cool facts about it. The building is old and beautiful but the room is so new and clean. Wonderful stay.
This place is beautiful — Unfortunately, with all the luxurious renovations, they forgot to insulate between the rooms! The first night, I could hear people coughing and sneezing next door and I thought, Oh No. But it wasn't until my last night there that I was woken up in the middle of the night by the television next door. I have been staying here for an extended period of time for a job, and all of the rooms have been very nice and clean. The staff has always been very helpful when i have ever needed anything, especially Samantha at the front desk. Who has helped me many times when I needed past billing info or anything else. I have recommended this motel to my colleagues and would stay here in the future.
Checked in late at about 9pm and wasn’t too much of a headache. You have to around the corner to ring a doorbell to get in. I had to call the front desk to let me in as they was only one person working the front and they were busy helping others. Front desk staff were friendly. The room leaves something to be desired. My stay was during renovations to the lobby, but my room had the TV not working...
Very nice sized 2 bed rooms. Breakfast was good, parking.... Not so much. Small compact spaces and not a whole lot of parking. While I stayed there it seemed many kids stayed there too and it could get quite loud at times due to this so if you're working graveyard shifts not the best place to sleep. Overall a good stay though. Clean rooms, normal shower (not a bath/shower).
Staff was very friendly, to me that's a big plus and will always bring me back to an establishment. There is nothing I hate more than going somewhere and they are rude or I can't understand them. The hotel was clean and the breakfast was eggs sausage bacon yogurt and toppings waffles bagels and breads and hardboiled eggs two thumbs up Boardwalk is only a 6 minute bike ride away. Good location, lousy parking thou. The prices are reasonable. The front desk agents are attentive and helpful. Rooms are clean beds are comfy. Rooms have the usual amenities. Rooms are so quiet can't even hear people next door. I'd stay here again. I've referred friends and family here
Older renovated hotel in the heart of Santa Cruz. Inside, the place has a fresh, modern feel. The rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable. The breakfast is fresh with options for everyone. perfect, a stay like you can rarely have. I’m often in hotels, believe me, this one is something else. human size, high level service, on going care and perfect location. A must in Santa Cruz.
Staff was excellent and the breakfast was as well. It was a surprising perk that there were also cookies we could grab and wine/cheese hour. This hotel also offers free beach toys and bikes for guests and decently-priced wine and CBD beverages. Only problem we had was that there were ants in our hotel room. Would stay here again next time we're in Santa Cruz if they fix the ant problem.
Amazing little inn in Santa Cruz. If you like Santa Cruz and you like B&Bs check this place out! Delicious breakfast, gorgeous hotel and rooms, friendly staff. Walking distance to the wharf and boardwalk.
Lovely, large Victorian home, excellent location for beach and pier . View of the ocean. Friendly. Breakfast was wonderful and staff outstanding.
The rooms are nice and the location is ideal. Was irritated that at their already late check-in time our room was not available. Also guests can come and go at anytime during their stay and the walls are very thin. A pair of guests came...
Nice bed and breakfast that might be worth the money. The service is top notch and the location is perfect for a beach vacation. The rooms themselves are nice, but not spectacular. Great view, amazing sunrise, great location and shower was huge with all tile and the ceiling faucet. Not overly fancy. If you are not able to ambulate up stairs … tell them and park in their lot. Otherwise you are hiking lots of stairs. Also, the internet seemed to turn off every night around 8? The front desk didn’t know why. They were very nice though.
Quaint and immaculate! We loved our room with the private balcony. View of the water and the boardwalk. I read reviews about a lot of stairs... it was worthy of every step.. and I'm not a young person. The Thai restaurant was also fantastic!

Right across from the beach and just down a bit from the pier... pet friendly... the place is charmingly quaint but aged and in need of a bit of TLC. The continental breakfast was great - lots of choices and very fresh. I didn’t want leave! The “almost” comes from the fact that the only coffee available for our room’s coffee maker was decaf. We had to...
Rooms were clean and not outdated. The grounds were pretty and well maintained,, and it's proximity to the protected beach made it entertaining to hang around. You will want to plan on geting your food elsewhere, as there is no room service, and the "breakfast" is quite minimalist. There's a Starbucks just around the corner. The wifi in our room was not good. It's the kind where they make you sign...
I'm hesitant to share about our experience because I don't want the secret getting out but, this place was wonderful. The rooms aren't huge, but very comfortable and you're there for the beach and outside anyway. Just down the street is a great beach for kids and dogs. It's secluded and not open to the other beaches nearby. This would be a great place for a group or several families to rent multiple...
I really liked our cottage. The decor was super cute. Loved the pitched ceilings. Good size fridge, nice bathroom, utensils. Bed was comfortable. Our kids enjoyed the pull out couch. The beach was hands down the best part! Only bummer is they have a weight limit on their pet policy. There really should not be any discrimination with how much a dog weighs especially when they allow 2 dogs up to 5...

Property has a 7-day cancellation policy which seems unusually restrictive and inconsistent with other places in the area which have more typical 48 hour cancellation policies. Check in window was only from 3-5 in the afternoon which is also quite restrictive, otherwise needed a lock box. Room was very clean, but feels functional like a hostel or hospital and needs updating. WiFi was fine. We wondered...
This place is WONDERFUL!!! This was my first time in Santa Cruz and I am so thankful I booked this hotel. Location is perfect, it is very close to the beach and boardwalk as well as downtown which makes exploring easy and fun! The rooms are fantastically clean and comfortable, the bed is plush and perfect, the bathroom is spacious and has a lovely shower. The lobby always has yummy treats to eat as...
This is the spot. Great location in downtown Santa Cruz. Walking distance to beach, Boardwalk, wharf, shopping, restaurants, bars, Metro station, West Cliff Drive and other neighborhoods. They have bikes you can borrow if you feel like taking a ride. There’s a full commercial kitchen at your disposal. Excellent rooms with high ceilings, comfortable beds, ample seating, awesome bathroom and shower,...
Great spot, quiet, clean, free bikes to ride, kitchen is open for use. Calvin was super friendly at the desk, gave us directions, made us feel welcome. Stayed here with my girlfriend on a west coast trip. If you're staying in Santa Cruz, try this place. Awesome breakfast spot down the street. The patio & firepit ended up being perfect place to hang for an hour with my girl before going out. Best hotel...
Location is perfect. Don’t need to pay for parking- plenty of parking on the street. If you’re here to enjoy Santa Cruz this location is well situated. Most things are walking distance especially on Pacific Ave.. If you walk the opposite direction you get to the boardwalk in less than 10 minutes. Bed is welcoming and comfortable after a long day. This place is not a typical hotel where you have a pool...
Fantastic place to stay. Truly has that small beach town feel. Staff is super friendly and helpful. Our room was clean and comfortable. Continental breakfast was great! Would definitely stay again!

View and location perfect. Next time will request a deluxe king room. Loved the continental breakfast, cookies and daily wine/cheese offerings. Nice touch!
I've wanted to stay here for as long as I can remember. As much as this place looks like a fairytale, it is. Our room was just perfect! I sincerely don't think you could get a bad room here. The service was hands down the best! Coffee 24/7. Fresh baked cookies in the afternoon. You can smell them baking y'all, they are no joke! The wine, and cheese course they serve is above, and beyond what we expected...
This is the best location for a weekend getaway ever! Every room has a beautiful view. Rooms are clean and comfy too. They serve breakfast, cookies in the afternoon, and free wine and cheese in the evening! Amazing staff to boot! Highly recommend this location.
Beautiful views from the top floor. The refurbished rooms are nice. Our king bed suite was huge. The staff provided some form of food and drink practically all day. Will definitely go back.
The great: ocean views and wave sounds. Room very clean. The service staff work very hard at keeping the place in tip top shape. Short walk to boardwalk. Short walk to wharf. This part of Santa cruz is just awesome. The good: free continental type breakfast. The not so great: the bed was killer on my back, guess I'm getting old. I will definitely want to stay at this spot again on a yearly...
