Sovereign Hill Hotel
Ballarat, 39 Magpie Street 🧭 Map
The room was excellent. Very spacious and Very Clean. Staff were extremely helpful. Breakfast exceeded our expectations, with a very private table and a variety of food on offer. Can't fault our stay.
Fantastic show of the aura and fantastic time at the gold mining town , panning for gold ect was fantastic fun , stayed one night rooms looked brilliant , the only let down was the place could do with a proper clean , dust was thick around the skirting that thick you notice it . Same with the bottom of the blinds , you close the curtains and the dust flies everywhere, the white bed sheets and pillowcases...
A nice peaceful place to stay. Friendly staff too. We only stayed 1 night while travelling through. Pro's: Beautiful spot in a picturesque part of the country. Quiet and serene location away from the hubbub of Ballarat. Spacious room (#48) with comfortable bed. Restful sleep. Con's: Sparse furnishings with nowhere to place a suitcase without taking up all the table space. Plenty of power points....
It had been a long time since I'd been to see the night show at Sovereign Hill and so my sister and I planned an overnight trip. We booked our tickets to Sovereign Hill, the night show, and also our accommodation all on the website which made things easy. You can check-in to the hotel from 2pm so we arrived around 11.30am and spent the better part of the day wandering around exploring the historical...
I really liked the fact that there was a coffee machine in the room which used those liquid capsules & from what it seemed,if u ran out of capsules in your room, there was a good supply of capsules & a few other resources supplied at the reception. Not sure if it was an added extra because my sweet partner paid for the accommodation, but we also enjoyed a dinner which was provided just before a spectacular...
Absolutely loved my stay at the Sovereign Hill Hotel. A beautiful, modern hotel with very friendly & helpful staff. The breakfast buffet was delicious; I definitely recommend it for the $18.

The room was very comfortable with everything easily accessible. We were give a room close to car parking as requested.
Better than expected with the whole experience. Didn't get to use the restaurant but will next time. Loved the late (11am) checkout. So pretty at night with the big pond & fountain lit up. We were able to check on a bit early, which was much appreciated. Definitely recommend.
This is the second time we have stayed here. We got the upgraded room this time. It's worth it. The staff were so friendly. We had the buffet breakfast which was awesome. Except for the pancake maker. I thought they were horrible. Putting the aside this stay deserves 5 stars. One last thing , the gardens are amazing and who ever is doing your gardening maintenance deserves some real praise. The gardens...
My sister, her partner and myself had Christmas lunch here,we also had 2 rooms, the evening meal and breakfast. The whole experience was just wonderful. The staff couldn't be anymore helpful, the meals were 5 star and setting was just beautiful. Thank you for help making some wonderful memories. We will back next year. Jocelyn
What a little treasure, set in woodlands with bird song. The coffee and cakes (made in house) are just delicious. Try the sweet potato chips they are up a level on the French fries. Good parking too, real wood fires are such an welcome on a cold day. Good menu and kids portions. The little lake is a good place to sit out on a good sunny day.
Nice place to stay for passing through, highly suggest getting the add on breakfast. Lots of range and warm fireplace. Great coffee and buffet breakfast Room was tidy and clean, staff were understanding and pleasant. Beds soft and plush. Grounds are lovely around the lake and decking area, plenty of space between rooms. We didn't hear our neighbors at all room could do with better position of power...

from the staff to the atmosphere of the motel, everything is excellent! the place is peaceful, we take the time to answer all our questions and the employees are very caring even when they are busy elsewhere. The beds are comfortable, perfect for staying with family to visit Ballarat or with friends / couple for a little relaxation! I will come back !
My friends spent a couple nights in the hotel when they came to visit me. Even though there was a minor incident where my friends forgot a small bag in the room when they checked out, the staff collected the bad and returned to us straightway. Recommended for their professional customer service!
A fantastic place in a special spot in Ballarat. The room was well kitted out, with a beautiful modernist decor. The resturant for breakfast was wonderful. All in all a fantastic time. And great value for money I hadn't been to Ballarat for a ling time and it is now very cool. Lots of cafes, museums, galleries and bars.
Kylie and the team are great for a night, a week or a few hrs. Great facilities and reasonable rates
Older style motel, bathroom a bit tired but huge new tv and nice crisp bedding and towels. Would stay again
What can i say what you don't already know about this place, the name stands for itself ( middle of city ) i have been to so many places in and around Ballarat but nothing compares to MID CITY MOTEL,so central to everything just park your car and walk,.The staff are so friendly and helpful, P.S. i don't get paid for the stars, i just write about my experience, Try not to believe critics , give MID...

Last minute accommodation after driving for 12 hours. I arrived at 9:30pm and called the Victoriana hoping for a vacancy, the gentleman was extremely helpful! And accomodating, finding me a secure park for my car and trailer, car park was very well lit with lovely gardens, Room was exceptionally clean, bed was very comfortable, fantastic place and great service. Very appreciative of the last minute...
Second time staying. Very happy with the room & spa facilities. Look forward to next stay 😊 Love I can doing a load of washing if I need to, and kitchen toaster kettle 👍👍 Just need to remember to ask for plates, bowls & more cutlery on checkin. Very pleasant and happy 💜
Room was very spacious, neat and tidy. Having a nice, clean spa after a long day of driving made my stay extra pleasant. Only thing missing were plates and cutlery as we ordered in but had to resort to eating out of plastic containers and cutlery.
Top accommodation. Spacious room that had a great spa bath. Toaster and jug in the room. One of the cleanest places we have stayed. The room and the grounds are so well kept. Complimentary Guest laundry and the room was very quiet. Would definitely stay again.
Stayed 2 nights, it was good. A lot of space which was nice, and having a spa was great. No wine glasses in rooms, and no kitchen sink, so you'll have to use the bathroom to wash anything, and wifi doesn't work good.... but still giving 5 stars because price makes it definitely worth it. Would recommend.
Neat, clean and very friendly. Only one suggestion for the proprietors... replace your pillows. They are like granite. Otherwise, I look forward to staying here again. Highly recommended.

Central location with free parking close by, and near to dining venues. Well-presented and comfortable room.
This is a kool venue with multiple different rooms that lead into an outdoor open well-lit alley area. The only negatives in my experience is that the bar is one of those places with sticky floors/benches so could perhaps use some additional cleaning. Also the outdoor area can get rather breezy so a heater or two would be nice.
By far the highlight of our Ballarat trip. Before setting foot inside the gaming area, we were awed by the well-preserved 1850’s building. The gaming area itself was well designed and spacious, and offered a decent selection of machines. Once you hit collect, be sure to spend some time by the ambient fireplace - if you’re lucky there might even be a movie on (for us, it was The Hobbit; upsettingly...
Very comfortable bed. Lovely room. My only complaint is we are early risers and wanted to get an early start for home but there was no way to exit the George. Or bill was all paid.
As good as it gets!! We dined at The George and it was an excellent experience. The dining area is well laid out with plenty of space, and privacy in the booths. The food was fantastic. Our slight variation in the order was accommodated and the food was top notch. Particularly impressed by the serving sizes - very generous, especially the salad. The food itself was excellent. Service was great. Our...
Very beautiful historic building. Gorgeous lights, ceilings, handrails, cornice... Room had everything. Helpful staff. Very tasty menu at the attached restaurant. Very easy walk to Regency Theatre and opposite an art gallery. Both worth a visit. Incredibly good street views. Tempted to go 5 stars but for the entrance to the carpark.

Our kids absolutely loved the paddle boats and other activities on offer. Every morning they would wake up and go for a run around the lake, use the spa and then we would explore Ballarat before heading back for an evening on the lake and tennis!
What a fascinating place to stay - full of history. Plenty for the grandkids to do with the playground, lake, jumping castle and swimming pool. There is also a big playground just up the road. The outdoor bbq's could probably do with a bit more cover considering Ballarat hasn't got the best weather but we hit a good patch. The first floor apartments mean you have to carry your luggage and your food...
Nice place to relax on the 55 acre grounds, rooms are a great size and well appointed, the staff are tremendous easy to talk to and well knowledged in the history of the property. Away from Ballarat city centre but by only 7 minutes, so close enough.
heritage-listed mansion built in 1878 on an idyllic 55-acre retreat of manicured lawns, gorgeous gardens, and a sparkling lake ideal for fishing and boating. Converted into full self-contained rooms. The staff were all very knowledgeable on the history of the building, which is a plus in my books.
Very pretty looking rooms 😍 And extremely well kept. The pool was the perfect temperature and was not cold even though it was 7 pm. I definitely recommend it.
This resort offers a very different experience. Lovely staff and well maintained historical buildings. The apartments are large and thoughtfully stocked. They have provided so much for families to do for fun there. We loved it.

Fantastic friendly people the restaurant was amazing.Food was well presented and fresh. Rooms are undergoing upgrades but I would stay there again .
Clean and comfortable accommodation. Self check-in feature is great. Very hard bed. Pool only heated some months (not always warm). Restaurant was closed although advertised as open. Unprofessional.

Very clean and central. Beds were comfortable. I specifically requested a downstairs apartment and was given that. Access was easy and staff were friendly.
Poor cleaning efficiency. Lipstick on "clean cup" , empty wine bottle in bin along with empty crisp packet. Given limited parking means on street parking - 🅿 enforcement people around before checkout.
The reception are nice and lovely. The environment is clean and tidy. Hotel is easy to find and close to central of Ballarat within walking distance.
Good rooms, could use a bit of TLC. The shower fell off the wall while my mum was trying to adjust it. We were on the bottom floor and could hear people walking around on the floor above us.
The receptionist was amazingly nice and the housekeeping staff legends # keep up the great customer service
Great choice for a weekend away in regional Victoria. Friendly staff and nice modern rooms in a great location. Sympathetic renovation of a 100 year old convent.

Great centrally located Motel. Nice, clean rooms. One downfall is that the bedding ( sheets etc) are not changed every day. There's a notice stating that they're changed every 3 days, unless advised by the guest that they require the room to be tidy and linen changed. Overall it's a good place
Large room, large bathroom, good shower, clean, comfy, close to restaurants, bars, shops, free parking
Walking distance from the CBD, which is good, Macca's over the road. Not sure if this place has ever seen a gardener. They are saving lots of money on maintenance of rooms (my assessment from our room). New towels were overlooked so had to go to the office.
Really nice, and the location is really good. Is close with everything. You can walk or use car, you can get everything you need :)
Staff were a bit rude and hard to understand and the room felt dirty on multiple occasions. Good location in relation to town centre and safe parking which was nice but I wouldn’t come back.
Definitely recommend the Comfort Inn Perfect location in the heart of Ballarat.. The rooms are spacious & clean, good value for money and monitored parking. Good facilities also For a couple I recommend the executive sweet with spa, the spa is totally awesome.

Big room with kitchette. Big fridge/ freezer. Fantastic water pressure in shower. Bed comfortable, great pillows. Excellent location
Great central location in Ballarat. Staff not that friendly when greeting them. We stayed for 3 nights but unfortunately found the room we stayed in was not that soundproof with adjoining neighbour and had a very sleepless night on one of the nights when adjoining room was occupied by an inconsiderate man who seemed to enjoy a drink and late night sport. Probably would not return for this reason.
The location was quite good. The only downside would be the hill that you will likely have to go up and down on to reach the nearby locations. The wifi was decent, just sometimes very slow. The room itself was adequate for a few nights' stay. The walls and roof were somewhat dusty and had some small bugs. The couch was quite worn and had dried paint on it, but it wasn't uncomfortable. The bed was...
Clean, spacious, good sized bathroom..with bench either side....great for make-up. "Kitchen" Sink, bench, larger style fridge for hotel... Beard brand bed...soooooo comfortable... Great place to launch from.
Much better than I expected given the price! Real value for money. Large room, comfy bed, two large size TVs one in the sitting area downstairs (didn't use them), everything down to nice rain shower, good quality toiletries ( not the standard hotel stuff) and ironing board provided, nice pantry with a fridge. Wifi was superb I could easily do mails and calls. There's enough eateries and pubs within...
Excellent accommodation. Large twin bedded room with v comfortable bed, sitting and dining areas and a ball kitchen. Very central to Ballarat - bars and restaurants. 20 min walk to Sovereign Hill gold mining park (definitely go there). Others in our party were staying in the spacious town houses which were lovely. Centre of town and right across the theatre. Beautiful building but needs some love. We were downstairs in a room near reception and you can hear everything in the hall. The blinds don't cover all the light as well so you get light coming in from the hallway, if you need absolute darkness, this is not for you.
Great location. Friendly and helpful staff. Considering my room was less than half of the cost of other accommodation in the area I was pleasantly surprised. The room was neat, very clean and light.
Lovely hotel great staff. Stayed here just a little while back. Old world charm. Family had spooky encounter when I was carrying food up to room the door opened before I got there and my wife and two kids (14 and 16) heard it and thought it was me. Very Friendly lol
A beautiful hotel. We quite enjoyed our stay here. Rooms were of a decent size with great cleanliness. The bed was rather comfortable and easy to sleep both of us. Great venue with exciting history. Staff were extremely nicr and friendly as well. Will definitely be returning
A great old building. Very spacious rooms. The new couple who are now running it had only just taken over three weeks before our stay. They were really friendly and had great ideas to improve the hotel. A restaurant would be a bonus.
A beautiful little hotel located at Lydiard Street. Great location as it's near Ballarat's main Street. The room was clean and basic! Though it's a little old.

Recently stayed in a pet friendly cabin with our dog. It was absolutely fantastic. What a wonderful caravan park. We stayed in a pet pen and it was just Marvellous. The area was large with space for the dogs to run around . Rural, rustic old pub, pub meals, so much charm and great to catch up with the Howlett side of the family
We had lunch here one Friday. The BLT was good, the potato wedges the best I have ever had. It is a charming and rather quaint Australian pub.
It’s an old pub with history and attitude. You don’t pay a lot to stay here. …Well worth it if you are happy to share bathroom, kitchen and toilet. Walls are paper thin to noise: not helpful as one of the compressors sits in the kitchen next to a bedroom. Bits of the building might also spontaneously fall off in your hands. Food is simple and people are bluntly friendly.
A great old style country pub, we popped in for a counter lunch on a Saturday, very friendly staff providing great service, friendly locals, and good pub food. Very enjoyable.

Have stayed a couple of times now and each time, has been fantastic. Cheapest rooms for miles but air conditioned, private & even your own sink. Bathrooms are shared but that is a given at this price - you can pay nearly twice as much at several Ballarat pubs for a room, still have to share bathrooms and have no A/C.
