ibis Budget - Newcastle

We expected better because it was from the “Ibis” owners. We spent one night last night and I think one night was enough.

If you are looking for something to rest after driving so long, this is definitely NOT your place. I recommend spending a couple of dollars more and getting enough rest and be comfortable with the room.

We could hear everything from the other rooms and hallway all night.
What we didn't like was that our room was NOT clean enough. Fungus in the bathroom, sink wasn’t clean and under the bed flat of hair and dust everywhere.
In the bathroom door said “keep the door shut tight when showering” to avoid activating the smoke alarm but doesn’t have handle door inside to do it.

I'm not sure if a $100/night for a tiny prison cell is reasonable. But it's not the size that is concerning.

The drinking cups were greasy, apparently just rinsed, not washed. It still had lip stains outside and tea stains inside. No hand soap on the sink. The light at the sink doesn't work. The milk provided was completely frozen. Moldy corners. Very dusty shelf with a kettle.

Sorry, I will avoid visiting Ibis again.

I've been to various budget places that charge even less and yet provide good basic service and cleanliness. Ibis was not the one.

I have booked at other ibis budgets before but never had such a bad experience until we stayed here. First of all, the rooms looked like a prison cells and the bathroom was just as big, if not, smaller than plane cubicles. The floors were filthy. I can look past this as it is a budget hotel.
We stayed here for two nights. The first night, our toilet broke. The flush made a very loud noise, non stop all throughout the night until morning. My partner and I did not get any sleep!!
We were moved into a different room but it wasn’t done til the next morning.
The guy working that night told us “he’s not a plumber so he can’t do anything. Just turn the TV volume up if it gets loud” Sorry but that’s not an appropriate response? We prefer to sleep with complete silence…..
We could not get ahold of anyone at the front desk despite calling out multiple times even calling the hotel’s number twice.
I emailed their customer service but was not compensated, not even for the first night.

It was okay for budget accommodation. We nearly died laughing when we walked into the room. The bed juts out right near to the front door so my partner couldn't enter. He's is in a wheelchair. We were told they have disabled rooms but they are more expensive. Why should the disabled have to pay extra for a standard room? Still using a bed. Still using a bathroom. Nothing more, nothing less. The bathroom was so tiny, like an aeroplane cubicle. He couldn't use it as there was quite a step up. After showering everything is wet, floor, toilet.. A massive slip hazard. The basin is in the main area so you have to come out to wash your hands. The bed was reasonably comfortable, the lady at the desk was lovely but I felt she should have offered us the disabled room. Tea and coffee making facilities. I'm glad we have a good sense of humour. Right on the main road which was exceptionally loud. Because we were just road tripping one night here was okay.

The room was filthy. Something's spilled on walls not cleaned. Skirting boards haven't been cleaned in months, cockroach greeted me when I came in, the duvet on the bed was absolutely filthy! Pay a few more dollars and stay anywhere else

The smell in the bathroom was awful and the room space extremely compact. We were ok to have a compact room but the smell was so terrible.
The only good aspect for us was that the people at reception were kind. Overall, Unless you have no other option, try to find a different place. Lesson learnt.
