Mercure Perth

We were travelling from London to Perth arriving around midnight, then on to Broome the next day, we wanted a quiet place to sleep, quality breakfast in the hotel and location where we could walk by the river the next day before our plane flight.

Did it meet expectations?

Booking: Nope
We asked questions with our booking requesting info about how access to the hotel was managed late at night, and times the buffet was available twice. No response received.
We booked late check out which allows guests to stay up until 6pm for $60 extra, but most communication after that said I had to check out at different times, leaving me confused about whether it was recorded properly. When we got to the hotel they offered a free late check-out to 12pm, when I had paid.

Night sleep: Nope
Room entry cards didn't work, and the person working at reception had gone off to deliver room service, no phone calls to the hotel were answered at that time either. We were left sitting in the hallway with small children for half an hour (keeping in mind it was already after midnight, we have children and we had been travelling for over 24hrs before we arrived - not good). We showered, went to bed then the fire alarm (assumed in the building next door) went off from 1.30am to 2am.

Breakfast: Yeah
the buffet breakfast was about what you would expect at a hotel.

Location: Beautiful location, we had a lovely morning walk in the sunshine, and took the kids to a playground by the river.

Other: staff (night reception and buffet waitress) were very nice to us here.

Other: they upgraded our room, but I really see no evidence of anything we got that was 'extra' compared to what was booked, maybe a few metres floorspace or something? Might even be a con so people feel they can complain about stuff.

Stay again? No way, the booking process,room access debacle and disruption to sleep means it wasn't worth it

Location suited our purpose for the Xmas Pageant. Very very very old hotel. Reception staff were very good. Door lock didn’t unlock and a cleaning lady showed us the secret trick to getting in, also saying that this lock has always not worked properly.
Pool was good but can’t help but think it could benefit from at least some shade. The eco decking whilst maintenance free tends to get hot enough to cook an egg on!
Breakfast………. Rolled up at 0715 to see a whole bunch of people out the front; I went an asked reception what time breakfast started and was told 0700, to which I informed him that it wasn’t open. No bread for toast. No butter for toast. Hot food was ok as was the juice and coffee.
Would I stay here again? NO.

Needs some serious upgrades. Stayed in far nicer hotels in Perth for only a small amount more per night (pan pacific, Novotel). Would recommend going elsewhere. They are charging for more than what it’s worth these days.
