We found the "Abando" area a really great place to stay in Bilbao: we liked the atmosphere of it; lots of nice bars and restaurants within 5 to 10 min walking distance from the hotel. The river is nearby so you can have a nice stroll by the riverside, and the Guggenheim is a 15 min walk away from Hotel Abando. Hotel has very helpful staff, is clean, big rooms, nice beds.

Appreciate everyone’s experience is unique, unfortunately we have a really terrible experience as the photos will show. It might well be the room (215) we have been allocated. We arrived to find a long strain of hair in the shower when we first arrive, it can happen and easily overlooked. We have to open the windows for the two nights we were here because despite being Autumn (November 2024) the weather has been about 25 degree and the central controlled system is pumping out hot air (each room can only control the speed 1-3 or off). Unfortunately our room is right above the entry where the rubbish is (see photos) with people in the neighbour dropping off and driving past at odd hours. Then there is the smoking from downstairs that saturated the room (see photo) that triggered a real bad asthma attacks that we contemplated going to the hospital. Two sleepless night and ill health have not exactly the experience we sought. The receptionists are friendly though and it is walking distance from the train station and tapas street which are all positives.

Benefits: About a 10-minute walk from the airport shuttle bus station (Plaza Moyua), and also very close to the metro stop.
A few houses down, there is a small shop, and a nice park in the direction of the mesa.
There's plenty to choose from at breakfast.
Cons: The decor is a bit shabby, and the view is of the office building next door. The bed is comfortable, but it slides around easily

Smaller, less expensive room than one we had in December 23, pictured. No AC in June. Enjoyed street view, breakfast buffet, and great location. Staff helpful.

Our stay was far from satisfactory; exhaustion weighed heavily upon departure.
The initial room had hairs everywhere, including on the bed, met with indifference from staff upon our request for another room. Though the other room was cleaner, it had a lot of shower mold. Despite this, we decided to keep the room because it was the last room with a single bed.
The room was so hot that we couldn't sleep, and the staff said they only had centralized heating, not cooling. They gave us an old fan, but it made a lot of noise, so we didn't use it. Next to this, the hotel is very noisy. We couldn't wait to get back to our own bed for some real rest.
We expected a great hotel experience, paying €620 for four nights, but we were sorely disappointed. Basic amenities were woefully absent, including friendly staff, a clean room, a bathrobe, a first complimentary water, an iron, and air conditioning.
The indifference extended to departure, with no one asking how our stay was, we will not be returning.

Great hotel in the central part of Bilbao. They have a buffet breakfast. In addition, a small breakfast with coffee, juice and all sorts of bread.

Nice 4 star hotel in the middle of Bilbao. Rooms were comfortable, reasonable amount of space, and very clean bathrooms. Loud during the day/morning as our room 425 (don’t get this room) was next to the janitor/maid work room.WiFI was poor in our room with what appears to be low speeds and I had to ask the front desk to reset the router as WiFi dropped at multiple times. Front desk was efficient but did not go out of their way to help customers, and I was always the first to say hi or try to make a greeting. If they can’t figure out how to provide hi quality WiFi I don’t recommend this for either business or holiday travelers as you need WiFi for work and your kids need it for their games so it an essential hotel service now.
