Original Sokos Hotel Lappee

Standard room was comfortable enough and very quiet as promised, though a long walk from the reception. Enjoyed the kettle with complimentary tea and instant coffee. Surprised to find out that two out of three reading lights did not work. The biggest drawback however was realizing that windows did not open when we wanted to refresh the air before getting to bed.
The stylish pool area was a very nice surprise, beware however that inexplicably there are no lockers for your room key or other valuables. This is especially worrisome as there is direct access to the area from the gloomy parking hall. Moreover, the men's sauna smelled rather stuffy and could do with more frequent cleaning.
Breakfast was a mixed experience, and the main reason why we probably won't be returning. We did not enjoy having to cross the adjacent shopping mall to access the breakfast room. Variety was good, and we did appreciate the effort that had been made to source and showcase a number of products from local producers, however on the whole most items did not taste particularly fresh, and the scrambled eggs in particular had a very industrial taste and feel to them. Over-diluted concentrate juices were a let-down as well, as well as the hot tea water that tasted of stale coffee. Staff did promptly get us cleaner water from the kitchen when asked, though.
Except for the issues with breakfast, this is a standard Sokos hotel which we would have been happy with if it had been priced in line with its offering. However, at boutique hotel pricing (almost 150€ with parking for a standard room), I'm sorry to say it fell far below our expectations.
